Until I saw him bowl in the flesh I didnt realise just what an athlete Brett Lee was. His run up to bowl was a 40 yard dash ending with a hurdle jump and javelin throw at 98 mph , 6 times in a row, then rest for 5 minutes up to 30 times a day. His running speed was pretty fast as well, he would have made a great rugby player

Bret Lee was a very attacking bowler who aimed mostly at the stumps. His great teammate Glenn McGrath bowled away from the wicket more to entice the batsman to swing at it and edge it to a fielder.

whether the ball swings in or out depends on how bowler holds the ball while throwing and world class batsman are able to read by seeing the hand where it is going to swing...Brett lee is a superfast bowler and depends on pace rather then swing.....u can react to shoaib aktar....he is also superfast bowler....a lot of competition between the two....lasith malinga is a medium fast bowler and take wickets on swing rather then pace.....some of the best swing bowler have been Magrath (australia), gillespie (australia), Wasim akram (pakistan), waqar yunus (pakistan), jamie anderson (england), trent boult (new zealand), pollock (south africa), alan donald (south africa), etc.

A hat-trick is when you get three wickets in three consecutive deliveries. A hat-trick ball is basically the ball which follows the previous two wicket taking deliveries.

The reason it is called a hat trick is because being a so called gentleman's game an expensive hat was awarded to the bowler by the members for getting 3 wickets off 3 consecutive deliveries as giving money in the sport was uncouth behaviour.

Great reaction video..specially now that you know what s cricket ball feels like..That seam on the cricket ball plays a big big role in swinging the ball in the air..Angle the seam 30° or 40° degrees to the left or right of the line of throw and the ball swings one way or the other..as the angled seam creates a difference in air pressure between the two halves of the ball thereby bring Bernoulli's Principle into play.

Stitches on the ball is your grip , wrap your two fingers arround the stitches supported by thumb ths how u gain control on the ball , how u release nd use stitches of the ball determines if it's gonna b "out swing " aur " inswing" fast bowlers make sure tht it lands on the stitches to get the movement nd nip once it hit the surface.. Now u need to check out batsman there are some abouslate legends like bowlers ... bats man like they can make bret lee look like kid in the park with there elegant drives nd defensive push nd piercing the gap between the filders nd hitting the bowl from the middle of the bat not edging it so it doesn't pop up in the air ..

Most important thing you have to know is that ball in cricket does not changed. Even when it goes to crowd it has to be returned back. When the ball it is hard and swings off the pitch and is easier to hit. When it gets old it spins more and starts reversing too which means swing off the air. Plus the ball is made during tge match by continuously polishing only one side of the ball and keeping the other side rough. But the ball cannot be tampered only the sweat and saliva can be used to polish. The bat also needs preparation by stroking it through a wood hammer for few days before it gets ready.

The bowling movement is painful if not practiced regularly. I've had my shoulders hurt for days when I've played after long gaps. BTW, talking about swing bowling, the way they have the ball swing in the air is by deliberately bowing such that one side of the ball gets more rougher than the other side. Then, the ball moves towards the direction of the more smoother side (shiny side) when delivered at a fast pace.

First thing you need to keep in mind is forget what Baseball is. Baseball and Cricket have nothing in common and so don't try to think from that point of view. Cricket is all about brain.. and the game is way too much to understand. Even the people who are watching it from 20 years don't know every rule and how things exactly work on field. On screen the ball may look straight but on field it swings left and right. Then the spin bowlers and medium pacers have their bit too. In Indian subcontinent conditions the ball spins more than it swings. In England and New Zealand ball swings more while in Australia and South Africa the ball has pace and bounce. So pitch has a huge huge role in the strategy. No pitch in same country is same infact. Weather also has a huge impact on the game. I haven't mentioned about Batting yet which is yet another universe.

One rule about bowling in cricket: You cannot bend your elbow for more than 15 degrees while bowling. It is for the same reason you mentioned - that it makes it easier to bowl and also bending elbow means you can literally chuck the bowl too which again is not allowed while bowling. So how do they know if the bowlers are bending their elbow more than 15 degrees? Other than the 2 umpires on the field, there is 3rd umpire who sits behind a TV screen observing and communicating a lot of things through technology. If he feels the bowling action is wrong, it is conferred to the 2 umpires on the field and they start observing the actions. At the end of the game if they find enough evidence, they will have that player tested at one of the bowling academies around the world where the degree of elbow can be measured through technology. If the result of the test is not in favour of the bowler, then that bowler is suspended for the rest of his life. The only way he can come back in the team is if he changes his action of bowling which means changing what he is good at, what he has practiced for years. P.S. There is also a 4th umpire in cricket. He is responsible for all the maintenance stuff like getting new balls on the field or providing drinks to the on field umpires during breaks or checking that all the equipments on the field are working and up to standard and making sure the pitch (on which is cricket is played) is not interfered during breaks by any player

From stump to stump it's 20 yds. When a quickie is running in at top pace, you can understand the batsmen's reaction time, especially when the ball hits the pitch first and is rising up to meet you at a different length each ball is bowled. Anyhow, thanks men.
@shmick6079
@shmick6079 4 жыл бұрын
He’s swinging that ball, not spinning it. One side of the ball will be cleaned continuously by the players, while the other side remains dirty (difference in air resistance). Fast-bowling with the seam (stitching) upright will result in the ball swinging through the air. You can try this at home. Grab a tennis ball and wrap one side with electrical tape (like a half moon 🌓 ) and bowl it with the line of the tape upright. The tape is quite heavy, so the swing is exaggerated, you’ll notice it immediately. We sometimes do this when we play park cricket or beach cricket with mates.

Just like you said that batters in baseball try to read the ball out of the pitcher's hand, the batsmen in cricket also are required to do the same. That is one of the fundamental traits of a good batsman. However the bowlers try to hide their grip by holding it in a concealed way(either with the other hand, or just the way they hold the ball in general). It is hard to read the ball when it's new and swinging, because both halves of the ball have similar shine. But when the ball keeps getting older, the fielding team tries to maintain shine on only one half of the ball. So it is a little easier to read the ball when it's older. In the case of spinner the batsmen figures out the type of delivery based on the discharge, release point, from which part of the crease he's bowling. All said and done the predictability of the pitch is another conundrum and a mystery.

*Yes it's big factor that Batsmen watchout how a bowler/pitcher grabs the ball when he starts running but it's very tough to know which way the ball gonna go.. however there are some old batters who had played for more than 10 years cricket they figure out almost every time which way the ball gonna swing or bounce or full toss..but bowlers have developed new techniques to avoid this..1. Right hand bowlers started runnings by grabbing the ball in left hand and switch the ball to right hand right before they take that jump near the umpire...while who can't do that comfortably started running right behind the umpire this way batsmen couldn't see which way the ball gonna go as batter couldn't see the bowler.... bowler suddenly appears jumping at the crease and flummox the batsman..if you can guess the ball you will definitely stand the ground otherwise bowlers like Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar, Mitch Johnson can literally leave you and ur bat dead.. these bulls are freaking fast and lethal..these guys mostly relied on pace coz it's not easy to swing the ball at such a pace.. however medium pacer bowls slow so easier to spot on by the batters but these bowlers use another tactics..its swing and speed variation*
@spazbog123

lbw law is actually reasonably complicated, adjudging the ball would hit the stumps is not enough, the ball needs to pitch (bounce) inline with the stumps or on the offside (if it pitches outside leg stump it should not be given out). It then needs to be adjudged to strike the batsmen in line with the stumps (normally the pads but Ive seen some strange but legit lbws that didn't hit the pads) if the ball hits the batsmen on the full it should be adjudged to be going straight on and then after that it still has to be determined to be going on to hit the stumps. One of the more controversial points in the game given the judgment call nature of it, even with the decision review system and ball tracking technology.

Just so you are aware there is similarity between how a wiffle ball produces in air movement and how a cricket ball produces its in air movement. A wiffle ball as Americans are aware is perforated on one hemisphere and smooth on the other, a used cricket ball is polished on one side by the bowlers and scuffed to hell on the other side.
