That video only told half of the story. This was the redemption part. In the previous Ashes test (England vs Australia is The Ashes) in England 2 years prior, Mitchell was a broken man. Almost nothing went right for him and the crowds were on him constantly. They kept chanting his name in a mocking way over and over again. It mentally destroyed him and most people thought that he was finished after that. The next Ashes series (this time in Australia) is what was in the video. He was full of fire and he redeemed himself. He was the driving force behind Australia winning the Ashes series.

That's cool to have all this information. It is better for em to have the whole story. i love very few things more than a redemption story.

Boring Reviews it’s a great redemption story. This form seemed to come from out of nowhere and we thought that the English were going to come here and embarrass us. When MJ came out with this devastating form it seemed to inject life into the team. It was sensational to watch. There’s another video out there, possibly by Cricket Australia, that gave the perspective of the English batters. Apparently the myth behind MJ’s new form actually screwed a lot of them up before they even faced him. They were scared of him.

A cricket ball is 163 gram in average , and baseball ball is 142 grams . It's just 20/25 grams heavier than baseball i think even an gram makes difference but it's not actually ball weight which makes it lethal but it's it hardness, a new cricket ball is as hard as a rock .

lol - that's not even close to what happened. Johnson retired a year AFTER that series, going on to win the World Cup later in 2015 and dominating India in the semifinal. And he was the best performed fast bowler in the Test series you're talking about, with 13 wickets in only 3 matches, winning the match for Australia at the Gabba along the way.

I remember that Ashes. It was just magical! And it was more than just Mitchell Johnson- the entire Australian team wasn’t in the best place, after dominating during the 90s and early 00s, it really wasn’t the top, as we were. We still aren’t tbh. That was the best times for Australian cricket- but that Ashes was like a touch of the old magic. It was wonderful.

Miss watching him play. If you lads aren't familiar with test match cricket, it's the full 5 days game where both teams bat twice (normally); and the Ashes are decided by 5 matches. So to win 5-0 means 25 days of cricket played, and England coun't squeeze a win out of any of them. It says a lot about your players to pull that off, and Mitch was on fire in his prime.

In case you don't already know this suff. In test cricket an over is the bowling of six balls and then the wicketkeeper trots to the other end and another bowler starts bowling. Teams are required to bowl around 90 overs per day and the ball is changed after 85 overs. As the ball ages it begins to soften up so it swings and spinners can grip it easier and are used later in your innings. (Unless you're on the subcontinent where spin is king) . So as a fast bowler you want to get of the park as quick as posdible or else you could be bowling yourself into the ground. An innings wrapped inside 50 overs is good taking a third new ball bad.

A fun fact about his Moustache. Johnson was out of the team for most of 2013, due to basically being rubbish (the English even had songs about him). Then he was picked for the 2013 Ashes side, and he grew that Moustache for 'Movember', a charity in which men grow Moustaches for the duration of November to raise money/awareness for supporting Men's Health. Johnson was only going to keep it for that series, then shave it off, but after having a most remarkable series, and after massive support, he decided to keep the Moustache for the rest of his career.

Soccer is the biggest world sport (participation wise at least and probably most other metrics). Cricket is the Australian sport when it comes to Summer no contest, Winter depends on where in Australia you are from but it is generally one of the Football codes (AFL or NRL - there was a time Rugby Union was popular but that has almost died due to mismanagement and poor national results). I am form Australia, I played baseball growing up, played all positions, even plenty of pitching (royally screwed my elbow ironically after an American coach changed my throwing style) but only catcher a few times, I hated the equipment it felt too restrictive. Never really played cricket (at least no in any sort of organized competition) I am in an odd position where I know plenty about both sports though I don't really follow the MLB but know plenty of how it all works. Also got a mate at work who loves American sports so I learn from him the intricacies of the others and teach him about baseball.

Mitchell Starc is the closest thing to a modern day Mitchell Johnson. The Aussie bowling attack right now with Starc, Cummins, Pattinson and Hazlewood is the scariest going around right now and they also have a great spinner in Nathan Lyon. Right now a lot of teams have good fast bowling lineups so it’s a really good era right now for fast bowlers.

13:01 Biggest sports stadium in Australia is the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) with a capacity of ~100K. Apparently Cricket in Australia is the only such sport to appeal people nationally whereas other big sports such as Rugby Union, Rugby League, Aussie Rules (& may be even Football) appeal to people in particular States more. Football is obviously big worldwide & it's 48 teams World Cup (previously 32 teams) is a great indication of it but Cricket too is quite big although not as big as it could have. Incompetence & bad governance by icc from the very beginning has been one of the big reasons, for example when icc was founded (1909) they immediately banned non British Empire countries from becoming its member (despite early membership being just 3 & then 6 in 1935) which is not the reason but one of the reasons for Cricket virtually dying in countries like US & Argentina who back then played better than some top nations of today. Now growth certainly has paced up with all icc members gaining t20I status (you can google it) but most of those members still lack meaningful t20I contests whether bilateral or tournaments.

I don't know very much about baseball run scoring(running between bases), but i do know little much about baseball ,Well In baseball if you didn't hit the ball continuously at three times that batter will be out, but in cricket you can leave(not hitting) the ball as much as you want, even if you swung the bat and missed the ball it doesn't matter in cricket because in baseball its a concerning thing as far my knowledge about baseball. But in cricket the one an only concerning thing is scoring runs and try to not getting out within the given time period(in test matches) or given limited overs( ODI match(50overs) / T20match(20overs)).
@AbishekNADAR
@AbishekNADAR 4 жыл бұрын
Cricket has three types of playing match formats, pretty much rules and regulations are all same as in those three formats, The major differences between those three formats are 1). ODI(One Day International) cricket -It consist of 50 Overs per side, that means total of 100 Over will be played on that match( 1 Over = 6 Balls ).and Each team has 10 wickets(in a sense wicket indicates a player, team consist of 11 players but if you get 10 players wickets i mean getting out them that team will get retired and the opponent team will get bat and will chase the targeted score). So this type of match playing time will take 9 to 10 hours, for that it known as One Day cricket(ODI cricket) and the main thing is each team will bat just one innings so total of 2-innings match not like baseball 9-innings(9+9=18). 2). Test Cricket -This type of cricket match has the maximum time of upto 5-Days, It is the toughest form of cricket and this kind of matches will test the batsman capacity and mental toughness, and each of the day the bowling team would bowl as much as they can do in given the day time period(for like 9:30am to 4Pm). So the bowling team should get the 10 wickets of opposition as much as quick for to set the big target. Here the major difference from ODI cricket is, each team will play 2-innings ,so total of 4-innings. 3). T20 Cricket -This is the latest form of cricket, It's pretty much same as the ODI cricket but here they have only 20 overs per side instead of unlike 50 overs in ODI. So this kind of matches will end up within 3-hours just like a movie and it mostly played in night times to attract most peoples. and most of the people would like to watch this kind of cricket because of it is straight opposite characteristics of test match cricket. because the batsman will trying to hit the ball aggressively on each an every ball as much as possibly they can to out of the ground .

A cricket ball weighs 5 and 1/2 ozs..It's heavier, and harder than a baseball! Modern fast bowlers can send it down between 90 to 100mph over about 20 yds.from the release point to where it pitches..If it's pitched short at the body or head, you have as little as 1/3rd of a second to react..Or it's gunna hit you!

It's very good that you guys are open to lean about cricket. I have a suggestion. Why don't you have Baseball Wednesdays and tech us Indians some baseball. The ability to hit a ball with a thin piece of wood (baseball bat has way less surface area than that of a cricket bat) just boggles my mind.

That would be cool. We would love that. I don't know how much interest there is for this. Let us know what element of the game we should begin with and I will find a video we can react to that shows this and then we will discuss it.

Would love to learn from professor Gabe! Haha. I only have the basic ideas . 9 innings. Homeruns. Home plate. Etc. But when ever I try to watch a game, there are so many technical aspects to it, which makes it overwhelming for me.

You should watch Dale Steyn.. He's more fierce and difficult to play.. Mitch Johnson is a very good bowler but not regarded as one of the greatest... He's not even counted in top 5 Australian fast bowlers.. McGrath, Dennis Lillee, Jeff Thomson, Bret Lee and Charlie Turner are considered to be the top 5 fast bowlers Australia has ever produced..

To be fair, that’s a really high bar to pass- Australia has produced some of the best cricketers generally of all time.

Phaniraj, you talk rubbish. Mitchell Johnson destroyed batsemen, like Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson and Walsh.

@Ursus54 Fast bowlers are not rated on scale of how much they feared the opposition.. They are rated based on their performance.. Shoaib Akthar also feared batsmen in his prime.. In fact more than Akram or Waqar did.. But do you rate Akthar above Akram??

Some time well in the future, beyond our contemporary grasp, Old men who’ve weathered life’s travails will shake their heads and gasp They’ll share their drinks and memories, their nerves will start to twitch As nostalgia sends their minds back to a summer owned by Mitch The baggy green in turmoil from a winter to forget Without a win in nine long Tests, they’d barely posed a threat A build-up of pyjama games, a team still to be decided Most Australians feared the worst: the Ashes could be quite lopsided But this was cricket’s grandest clash between sport’s oldest rivals And the history books are littered with inspirational revivals Still, it seemed delusionary - this team had learned to fail Could they really be relied upon to return the holy grail? The truth was they were missing something hard to find in sport An intangible you cannot teach, a gem that can’t be bought An x-factor, a winning edge, call it what you might It’s the difference between standing tall and calling off the fight Yet in four days at the Gabba it came from somewhere unexpected From a man who’d been maligned and controversially selected Unleashing bolts of lightning like Australia’s god of thunder The Tearaway from Townsville became the Darling of Down Under His bumpers and his searing pace had the Poms in disarray The filthy mo, the deadly stare, the Lillee of his day In Adelaide his lethal spell entranced our sunburnt nation Could this left arm sent from heaven deliver ultimate salvation? The fullness of his impact meant in three Tests it was finished The will of Cook and his hapless troops had rapidly diminished And just as Mitch had awoken a country’s ailing sense of pride He’d also drawn a line under a champion England side Some thirty-seven wickets at a tick over thirteen Speak only to a fraction of the performances we’d seen Because numbers and statistics are but footnotes in this story They tell nothing of the drama or the unadulterated glory But beyond even the Ashes a defining test awaited Against the Proteas in Africa might his impact be negated? Would his brutal tactics get results, could he maintain his freakish form Or was this all an aberration - a departure from the norm? Question marks still lingering, his answer was emphatic A dozen scalps in just one Test, the carnage was dramatic The reaction was immediate, a featherbed prepared On the road of Port Elizabeth, the South Africans were spared In a cracking match in Cape Town he was back among the action Against the best team in the world he gained that winning satisfaction Now on his quiet days the question’s asked - is the ‘Mitch effect’ a myth? One man’s best qualified to answer that - his name is Graeme Smith And so well into the future, beyond your contemporary grasp, You’ll recall the feats of Johnson and you’ll shake your head and gasp, You’ll share your drinks and memories, your nerves will start to twitch As nostalgia sends your mind back to a summer owned by Mitch.
