I volunteer at a local church food bank. We get lots of young people coming in that aren't homeless for a meal. If you're hungry and need help, look for a local soup kitchen or food bank. Just remember to give back in the future once you're out of your rut.

I grew up poor and this video just hit home so hard. One time I lived with my brother because we rented a apartment together. But for the first few months money was tight I mean tight. We went days without food. I think the lowest point was when my neighbors got kicked out and my brother and I broke into their place and raided their fridge and cabinets for any left over food they had. I'll say this after two weeks of having little to no food that box of spaghetti noodles and sauce was the best thing I have ever tasted. Thankfully things picked up shortly after but that was a rough period in my life.

Has no one ever heard of churches and church run thrift stores? They will feed you. They collect food and free stuff to do exactly that! At my work I fill up two shopping carts loaded with baked goods. Sometimes it's almost all vanilla generic birthday cakes but...The meat department donates day old meat products. Man this shit was so real, I kept laughing at how real this is. A lot of nights eating rice and ketchup, and using the cold shower to clean my ass. My favorite tho was once when we got pizza. There was a place downstairs that sold pizza for ~60 cents per slice, back when the exchange rate was better. Some basic math means that a whole pizza was about $5. My friend and I dug through the whole flat and managed to scrape together exactly how much we needed. We were so happy skipping our way down to the pizza place to get a WHOLE pizza. We ordered, and then we are getting ready to pick up our pizza. But these fuckers wanted another 60 cents for the box, which we just didn’t have. They were saying they might just give us back our money, but we were not having that. So I grabbed some newspaper from the register, put them on my arms, and told them to load it up. They thought I was joking at first, but we weren’t playing. They loaded that fresh-hot, greasy-ass pizza directly onto my arms and I carried that shit like baby Jesus back upstairs

Unfortunately I can relate to this story. When I was 14 sadly the electricity company dismantled the meter at our house due to unpaid bills. We didn't have electricity for the next 2 years. I had to charge my phone at my cousin's house or where my sister worked or whoever was nice enough to charge my phone. The only upside of the early 2000 phones were the battery life which lasted about 2-3 weeks on one charge. My dad made a makeshift charger from batteries and he used that to change some of the phones in the house except mine as somehow the Nokia 3210 didn't want to take charge from batteries. Summers were warm and okay even without electricity but the winters very cold. My dad used a tiny log burner furnace to keep the house relatively warm but the temperature never succeeded 14 Celsius in the house. Having a shower wasn't a thing either as that would probably cause hypothermia due to the ice cold water from the taps, so the family got used to partially bathe next to the log burner with some water that was warmed up on the burner. We haven't had the gas installed in the house due to major expense problems at the time of the construction so my dad used a gas barrel which we changed whenever it ran out. All in all we somehow managed to survive that 2 harsh years even with my parents worse than average income. So yeah, being broke is no fun at all.

One time when I was a kid my mom told us we were going to have a living room campout! We built a huge fort with couch cushions and blankets, and since we were "camping", we couldn't watch tv or turn on the lights. Instead we had all of these candles and flashlights, we sat by the fireplace and played board games, and we all slept there that night on the floor in the living room, even mom and dad! I thought it was so special. It was like 10 years later when I looked back and realized we did that because the power got shut off. My parents were keeping us warm together by the wood fireplace so we didn't all freeze (we didn't have central heat anyway, just two small electric heaters we moved from room to room wherever we were, usually one for my parents and one for mine and my brother's room). It broke my heart when I realized that, but a million thanks to my parents who gave me a treasured memory instead of a sad night. It must have taken a lot of strength and love to put on a smile and play with us when they were probably so stressed out.

BlackSen I said to the landlord after moving in a place that I never experienced bed bugs or cockroaches ...ants yes but Nadia else....all of a sudden I had this problem and its cost me a fortune..... and all kinds of things that I've Loved along the way...I had to get rid of.... Next thing I know I'm fighting this and he's trying to come out to me and still make me pay rent....without pre disclosuring this....I finally said to him... well just like you said and even before I saw you say it.... I replied back to the landlord stating the fact that the Cockroaches and bed bugs never paid me this share of the rent money....!!!lol!!! I think that is so funny then I think some of the same random thought other people think of... See we have more in common than we know as human beings...!!!!!!

The past 11 months I spent 2 weeks straight without a refrigerator or freezer waiting for the landlord to replace it. Today it died again along with my electric stove but I managed to sort out the refrigerator, so I'm expecting to wait some more for the stove to be fixed. Threw my toaster oven (don't have space for a full one) on top of the stove just like in this video, works a charm! In terms of what to wipe with, napkins and toilet paper lying around in college isn't tied down so every week or so some comes back with me. Love your content on how relatable it is, keep it up :)

If you tighten your belt around your belly it stops the hunger pains. I used to fish through the trash at McDonald's when they did the monopoly promotion. I'd find game pieces that weren't pulled from the fries and drinks and score free food.

Dude i feel your pain, I came up with all kinds of creative ways to get by being poor. When they would shut off my water I would poop at the grocery store across the street once my toilet filled up...it got bad one winter and i didnt get it turned back on till spring and by that time i had given up on the toilet so when judgement day came I had to throw rubber elbow gloves on and transplant everything from the toilet to a 5 gallon bucket and we are talking about 3 month old piss and shit. it was a def low point in my life. When we would run out of heating oil I would set up my big one room tent in my living room and move my couch and tv inside it...I had this one plug in space heater that would heat the tent really well as it was rated for 40 below so it kept the heat in nicely. I live in Maine so the winters get brutal...In the event that my power got shut off I would just run an extension cord from my neighbors through one of my windows to one of those heavy duty power strips in the kitchen so i could keep my frig plugged in and would run more extension cords to the living room to keep a lamp my tv and my gaming system and internet on...good times...Food was a bit easier for me because ever since i was 16 I have known about the "chip spot" in my towns industrial park..This was the local Frito Lay distributor and they had a dumpster for all the outdated chips and cookies...They did have a fence around this dumpster but me and my room mate would just climb over and unlock it...We would fill the bed of my truck with bags of chips...it was great...did that for almost a decade untill they made the fence so high you couldnt do it anymore..ya man being poor sucks but i will tell you one good thing it did for me...no matter how many years its been since i lived like that I dont forget it and appreciate what i have now
