Gavin Robinson a member of the DUP appeared on RTE to talk about how his boss Edwin Poots has undermined the Northern Ireland Protocol by blocking checks being carried out at ports there, but Gavin was caught off-guard by the questions asked, which clearly embarrassed the Brexiteer.

I live in the South by the border, am British and have a protestant background. I don't know anyone of a sane mind who thinks sabotaging the protocol is advantageous. If Brexit never happened, unification might never have come up. I know some in the South who were happy with the status quo and even thought unification wasn't worth the hassle. However, I'd imagine that sentiment probably has changed because of Brexit.

Infact I think it's quite ironic that today we've heard from the Irish govt & others that we are breaching international agreement, yet the cornerstone of all of their approach seems to be about protecting the core principles of the Belfast Agreement, but it doesn't appear to matter what the position of unionists is, it doesn't seem to matter the constitutional imposition the protocol has on the relationships between NI and the rest of the UK, the Belfast Agreement is an international treaty which hasn't been respected one bit." 1. The DUP have been trying to get the BA removed since it's inception, they hate it... they have never respected it. 2. They'd literally sell their own and the future of their children's quality of life down the river, just to get treating their fellow countrymen like shit for a brief stint. I just want to say also, I'm not anti-Unionist, even as a cultural nationalist I would quite happily remain in the UK, if it was better for my family's welfare and future, I'm anti these sickos who see the current level of equality in Northern Ireland as their greatest political failure.

Here is the brutal truth about the DUP. They thought leaving the EU would emphasise the border between them and the Republic of Ireland. They saw the Good Friday Agreement and the UK's membership of the EU blurring that border and leading to a creeping Reunification. They thought leaving the EU would put an end to that and make reunification less likely. They learnt to their cost that trusting a PM who says he is going to lie when signing a legally binding international treaty is probably a mistake. He's just as likely to be lying to you. Boris couldn't care less about Northern Ireland or anything that he promised the DUP. Once he got what he wanted he didn't need them anymore. If it comes to a choice between the interests of the rest of the UK and the interests of the DUP, he's going to choose the interests of the rest of the UK. He won't back them in their current temper tantrum, it's just a useful stick to prod the EU with, but if it looks like the DUP"s actions would collapse the UK's trade agreement with the EU then those border controls in the Irish sea are going back in place. I expect the DUP leadership overpay for their double glazing. I mean fancy trusting Johnson's word, was it a 1-day only special offer, that they had to sign up to there and then and don't worry about what the words of the contract, the double glazing salesman has promised it will be different to that.

I can remember the lead up to the brexit referendum here in the North and the debate was on the border and where it would go.... It was put to the DUP.... And only the DUP as the UUP wanted to remain in the EU.... That there would never be a border on the island of Ireland due to the Good Friday Agreement as the the guarantors of that agreement and significant interested parties (EU, Irish govt, and US govt) said that under no circumstances would there be a border on the island.... The DUP were fighting a losing battle but yet they still believed that they could achieve their aim of reinstalling the border and kept on the path they chose

RTE have a long history of fawning over his ilk. Only have to look back at any time Big Ian was on the late late show with Gay Byrne, sick bag stuff. As for Clare Byrne, her cluelessness knows no bounds. I happened to see where she had Andrew Trimble on her show a few months ago. She made a comment to him about how he (as someone from a u background in NI) had no problem playing for the "REP OF Ireland". Talk about cringe worthy.

The DUP did everything which they believed would put a hard border between ROI and NI. That is why they supported brexit, why they opposed May's deal and they hoped Boris was lying to the EU and the World rather than to them. After all they were the only party to oppose the Good Friday Agreement. It really is that simple.
