Toronto hasn't won a Cup since 1967 when Punch Imlach was Coach and GM.

Tyler Bozak was Burke’s number one centre. And he cried when Colton Orr was demoted. Burke was behind the times and refused to acknowledge champions are built thru the draft.

He basically built the 2013 Leafs team that made the playoffs...hate to see a guy like him go.
@NYRangersfan2611 жыл бұрын
16:53: What a stupid question! The reason why other teams do all that is because they need to, or else their fans won't show up. If you were the General Manager of the Leafs or even some other team that always sells, would you lower ticket prices or give ridiculous discounts on various things? I sure as hell wouldn't.
@terrcurr10 жыл бұрын
You got fired because the Leafs did nothing in the 4 years you were there..... pretty simple to understand bud....... see ya bye
@TheGutterpig10 жыл бұрын
he got there when the leafs were already in the gutter. He rebuilt the team and got them good quality players, he had the right idea about rebuilding the team, we’re not quite there yet but the Leafs will be a good team in a few more years

As a Canucks fan...the Canucks were at their lowest in the late 90s with Keenan and Messier running the team into ground and along comes Brian Burke and turned the team around...he was the main reason for the West Coast Express years and drafting the Sedin twins. Although long gone, his efforts still echoes to this day..
@kulba218 жыл бұрын
+cgasucks Main reason for the West Coast Express? Don't think so. Pat Quinn made the Naslund trade, Keenan brought in Bertuzzi.. Which was one of the best trades this franchise made in its recent history. When you consider McCabe turned into Henrik Sedin and Bertuzzi turned into Luongo.. So based on that, I'd say Keenan actually laid some decent groundwork for the future.
@cgasucks8 жыл бұрын
+Matt Baker Then who brought Brendan Morrison to form the West Coast Express? Who was responsible for trading out a disenchanted Bure for some guy named Jovanovski? Who brought Linden back? I stand by my original comment my gay friend.

I agree, once they get rid of phaneuf they will do a hell of a lot better, I watched game 1 the other night and his block shot was a pathetic attempt at one, hence bruins scoring shortly after his bs.

I really like the guy... Had not Murray done a good job this year i'd welcome him back to the Ducks :)
@blackened4me11 жыл бұрын
Dion Phaneuf is part of the reason you're being shipped out of here. Once somebody gets the courage to trade that piece of shit or at least cut his ice time/liability time in half, you'll see a significant improvement on this otherwise good team. I can't understand why Carlyle won't cut his ice time. His +/- is at or near the bottom and he plays over 25 mins a game with the 'C" on! WTF are they thinking?

Other than taking a shot at Steve Simmons, I thought Burke handled this well. Like just about everyone else, I'd like a better explanation of why this happened now. However, Burke is correct: ownership gets to make the decision. They can make that change at any time, for any reason, they want. My guess is Burke won't be the senior advisor for long though. He's way too talented, not to get something where he can contribute on the hockey side of an organization.

Garry Forbes no... the best part of this whole thing was when he told off steve simmons. I cant stand that hack and i was glad to hear someone finally tell that fucker off!

How is taking a shot at that POS human being Steve Simmons a bad thing?
@skypilot597311 жыл бұрын
Bruins are going to look pretty funny when the Penguins skate right through them. Whenever Toronto attacked with speed or forechecked, Bruins had no answer. Boston just waits until your defence makes a mistake, then they try to counterpunch, but if you execute quickly out of your own zone, Bruins have no way of countering. Penguins will tear them up pretty good, games will be 5-1, 6-2 for Pitt. I say Pitt in 6 games.

Brian Burke was a good gm the leafs just needed too many things to be a good team many of which he fixed... Most gms that start a major rebuild of a team don't survive to see the final product he made tons of big trades which as a fan must of been exciting.. I like this guy a lot wish he worked for my team! hope to see him as a gm again
@xTrotts2618x8 жыл бұрын
As an outsider looking in, I never thought Burke was a great GM. Too focused on drafting USHL players (Tyler Biggs), trading away picks, etc. The Leafs obviously have one of the best front offices in the league right now, so in a couple of years, his mistakes should be undone.
@SeventyOne4L7 жыл бұрын
He made that playoff team in 2013, his departure did not make sense. Dave Nonis ruined the Leafs and that why they're where they're right now. Nonis overpaid everyone, Bad Trades, bad drafting.

Didn't he make what leafs are today?? They're going to be in cup contention within a few years. Wouldn't that be thanks to Burke? All these fevered egos. Jesus Christ. I mean it'd be nice to have more Canadian players but, we need to win. That's all that matters.

@carparthero4 жыл бұрын
if you and whomever upvoted your moronic comment actually watched the video, brian talked on his own up till 6-09. beyond that he was willing and accepted questions from the toronto media. those questions and answers continued till 18-23. that's 12-14 above and beyond brians opening remarks. furthermore MLSE was obviously willing to allow brian to have a press conference, imo this was very admirable of brian to face the music.
