I have always wondered how John Gielgud escaped unscathed from his public toilet incident.

He didn't. Sir John was close to suicide over the incident .

@@m.oriley7700 But the career resumed and he was a great star until his death. Perhaps there was a hiatus at the time people in the 60’s were not aware of, but he was knighted after all.

He worked in the theatre and even in those days, the theatre would forgive almost anything (except maybe a colleague's success). If he had enjoyed a similar eminence in a more conventional occupation, he would have been ruined. Mind you, he achieved a knighthood, but he was granted some years after Olivier and Richardson. So there was an aftermath of some sort, albeit a less ferocious aftermath.

Love his accent. He looks to me like a Roman Emperor who could be charming one moment and the next moment order one to be thrown to the lions.

one side was highly-cultured grand seignior, the other side was, let's face it, a rampant, juvenile nymphomaniac?

@@chrish12345 Almost all juveniles would be nymphomaniacs if given the opportunity, particularly if they aren’t getting parental love. Human beings are highly sexual animals.

When younger, I used to hate public restrooms because annoying old queens would vulgarly proposition seemingly every youth who entered the premises. I think they got a kick out of causing offense when they well knew they didn't have a snowball's chance in hell enticing the youth. Thankfully, as an old man I am ignored.

I think you must be going to the wrong public toilets. I'm a 'youth' and I've never seen anything of the kind. These days nobody could get away with that sort of thing anyway. The police'd be there in an instant.

Homosexuality between men will always be more aggressive and less sensitive and as the male is a loner by nature and knowing my own heterosexual insecurities and demons, well; makes you want to give him a hug. Maybe aggressive is the wrong word.
