Nah they aren’t hypocrites, they just don’t know basketball at all. They’re casuals being paid to discuss something they have no idea about. Not saying everyone who has played basketball at a high-level can break it down analytically, but MOST can do it better than someone who’s never dribbled a ball in their life (edit: J-Will is often a hypocrite though like you said)

@@karanbird239 casuals only watch highlights and pretend to know what they are talking about. Darvin Ham was THE problem for the lakers this year. He had terrible lineups trying to “experiment in game” with wing only lineups with Bron running point. He never bothered to try to play Wood and AD together. When AD had the few games he missed he started JAXSON HAYES over Christian Wood. He started Tauren Prince with 38 min games over Rui Hachimura for the first 50 games with like 8pts a game and Rui was outscoring him with only 12mins a game. Oh and thats before i even get to hes the worst game manager Ive ever seen he regularly lost games with big leads and several unused timeouts and challenges. The Denver series just showed everyone else the small improvements they could’ve made to change the whole series.

Wilbon, like others in the media, don’t watch the games. They just talk. You can always tell. Anyone who watched all the Lakers games this season know Darvin Ham has cost the team some games this season. His lineups, rotations, not using timeouts when the other team goes on runs, his obsession with a 3 guard lineup, etc. Pelinka has a hand in this too, as he hasn’t done enough to build a better team. But the players frustrations with him are valid. Trying to blame Bron and AD for Ham’s lack of awareness is crazy.

Why did he bench his best players in the beginning of the season. Why doesn’t he use his timeouts even tho he said he saved them so Lebron and AD can get rest. He still leaves games with both! I could go on and on….stop the nonsense. Why did he play Spencer and Gabe vs Denver 5 minutes each? Why not stick to 1 for 10minutes so at least 1 can get a rhythm. Why did reaves only play 34mins that last game when he was cooking? He gave Spencer those minutes. Even reaves on the beach was throwing his hands up saying “what are we doing here?”. Jay is absolutely right. Wilbon gave a general, lazy take defending a guy he likes. The reason Ham was able to “take” them to a WC final last year was because Pelinka made that roster much more compatible by the deadline than the horror show he assembled at the beginning of the year. Darvin Ham is a good dude, but he’s a horrible head coach. Terrible and flaky rotations, doesn’t get or force the ball to AD enough in clutch moments (he’s actually joked about this in a press conference), has the worst feel for timeouts I’ve ever seen from a coach and just generally is overmatched.

The Laker's offseason moves last year were great, but some significant issues were involved. Gabe Vincent was supposed to replace Schroder, but his injury messed up a crucial rotation. Last year, Schroder started and also came off the bench. This year, that role was transferred to Reaves and D'lo, who aren't actual floor generals. Darvin ham lack of in game adjustments and trash lineups cost the lakers so many games. I agree that some of the players under perform but, it’s the coach job to make those changes and he didn’t.I definitely think this firing was justified. It’s time to move on.

I’ll coach the lakers for league minimum and win 50 games. I would sit like Phil Jackson during the game and let them try to get out of a 15 point deficit playing individual offense and crappy defense. Phil was a genius letting them know when they deviated from the game plan. He let them suffer. But, when you have a 20 point lead in the playoffs, he would call a time out, early to tell them to keep getting the ball inside and stop shooting threes. AD would not be taking any shots outside of 8-10 feet. He is your advantage every night in the paint.

I'm a Lakers fan and I think Bron and AD with their egos need to go. I would want to rebuild and establish a true culture and identity for LA, then a coaching system similar to what the Spurs and heat have, then get the players who will fit in with the culture, identity, and system that we have. It's not the 80s-2000s anymore where we could just get the best of the best and win every season. LA is stuck with an old mindset while the league moved on and became better exponentially. At this point, I'd rather have that than win one more championship with Bron then go now what after he leaves, then try to get the best players and coaches yet no one wants to come anymore because lets face it, LA is a dysfunctional organization right now.
