We may be able to help with any questions for day-to-day. We're currently on a 5-year trip in a Grenadier across the world towing a Patriot X3, which we live in. We set off from The Grenadier pub in London in mid-July 2023 with our two young kids and we’re approaching 50000km. At least 70% of our journey has been off-road... we enjoyed your one-liners! 😉

I have a Trialmaster with every option available from the factory with the exception of the red or grey chassis. I watched the development of this vehicle for about 3 years and as soon as I could get one I did just that. I of course read about the steering not returning to centre and other little niggles like the speed warning etc. now with just over 3000KM on it I can tell you none of those things lessen the driving pleasure I get from getting in my Grenadier. I have several other options in my garages including a 2023 G63 but I gravitate to the Grenadier at every chance. By the way, it takes one turn to get used to the lazy steering and all this talk about excessive wonder on the freeway, simply isn’t present in my Grenadier or perhaps as the owner of several vintage cars my muscle memory for less than precise steering is compensating. I have only had it on a forestry road out here in B.C., which would not qualify as real “off-roading” but the compliant progressive spring rates, long travel and high sidewall rubber certainly made the washboard, potholed gravel, flatten out to a very tolerable if not comfortable level. I have no idea what kind of mileage I am getting and don’t really care, its worth whatever it is. 99% of my miles have been in a suburban or urban environment and although there are better suited vehicles for that environment. There is no reason someone should worry about this vehicle being hard to live with if it was their daily. It is easy to live with and feels great to be in, whether using it for its intended purpose or just as a lifestyle preference once tired of all the egg shaped alternatives and lookalike SUVs. I would say to anyone shopping for an off-road capable SUV. If you have the chance, drive one, you will find it drives much better than it looks like it would. It is G-Wagon solid, and feels much closer to that class of vehicle than to a Jeep Wrangler for example. I love mine, it has a distinct personality unlike the generic cars of the past decade or so. Great review by the way, and as I am sure you know Sir Jim bought the Grenadier Pub which provided the vehicle band name and also the Belstaff clothing company that makes the Trialmaster jacket the model is named after.

I have a Grenny and it is absolutely amazing. Your review is very accurate. I can even attest to the paint thickness having pinstriped it in the Eastern Sierra during the first week of ownership. Deep scratches polished out compared to the truck that joined me was scratched down to the metal.
@BryanPikeАй бұрын
Over my first 3k miles on my Grenadier I have averaged 18.8 mpg, though if you gun it from light to light across the city that will suffer to perhaps 15 mpg as this is a heavy vehicle. Speaking of options, you can build your Grenadier entirely a la carte beyond trim levels, and you entirely glossed over the the high power option that comes with the winch you have installed and the exterior deutsch plug pick up on the roof, hood, cargo, and dash for overlanding gear. This is HUGE benefit from having to run and fuse these things yourself. You can see these boxes at 4:24 by the roof handles. I am thrilled you didn't whine about the on road stearing not being like a Porsche, like so many car reviewers. I guess you'll just have to suffer another week of driving this to review all the features... Cheers! Nice overview.

3 options that must be ordered from factory and can't be fitted later are the winch, high load wiring package and the Safari windows. Trailer hitch is also difficult. Safari windows are a must but need aftermarket ceramic window tinting. After that they are fantastic in the sunniest and hottest climate.

But after having my Grenadier for a couple of weeks I just assume throw rocks and the Land Cruisers that were well modified with BP51 suspensions, ARB bumpers with winch, Skids, Aux long range fuel tanks……Now there are two Grenadier Wagons in the garage and a Quartermaster is on order to fill the spot my likewise beloved Chevy Colorado Bison with the Duramax now occupies.

Nearly 7k miles on my Trialmaster with factory winch. I track miles at the pump and am averaging 15.8mpg. So far my best tank was 17.2mpg. The trip computer is rather optimistic. It will read over 18mpg but when I calculate at the pump it’s around 20% lower. I’m loving mine! The gearbox on the petrol (gas) model is limited to 500 NM torque max so that is the limiting factor of tuning unless you change the gearbox. The diesel comes with 550 NM standard but the gearbox can handle 760 NM max. You can also use 4wd low unlocked centre diff on hard surface roads up to 80 kmh (50 MPH) and you have all 8 gears.

I take mine to Maine, doe jumped in front of me, between steering and braking it was a miss but more importantly there was nothing sluggish about the truck.
