Great video as always guys, i really enjoy watching everything you do. I'm really looking forward to the works on the old farmhouse, something different. A question from a non bricklayer. I notice Alex butters the end of the brick layed, but Steve butters the brinck in his hand. Is this personal preference? Keep up the great work.

Ah , 🤣. It’s called Build fast 🧱🧱👍🏽
@JasonJames-d8kКүн бұрын
Why don’t you cut vertical dpc in the existing house wall in between the new outer brickwork and inner blockwork to stop the damp travelling through from the existing outside wall into the inside of the new extension?
@SteveAndAlexBuildКүн бұрын
Only do it when I absolutely have to . Waste of time 🧱👍🏽
@JasonJames-d8kКүн бұрын
It won’t be a waste of time when the outside brickwork gets wet and soaks through too the inside wall that will be plasterboarded and plastered getting damp because technically there’s nothing too stop this it will still be an outside wall under the plasterboard!
@SteveAndAlexBuildКүн бұрын
Yes it is . I’ve been at this game for 38 years and have never , not once been called back because some miracle moisture has travelled 11 inches through bricks then popped out when it gets inside . Nor have I heard of it happening to anybody else .
@JasonJames-d8kКүн бұрын
No worries I’ve only been at it 37 years and it’s good working practise to either maintain a continuous cavity or cut and put in a 6” dpc especially if the exterior brickwork is in an exposed area or an area that the weather hits the water will travel through . And that’s what building regs would require I know your doing that on a permitted development but that’s how it should be done 👍🏻

Steve‘s face work has always been first rate, but I remember Alex’s work when he started being a little sloppy as you would expect from a 1st year. Not sure how long it’s been now, but hasn’t his workmanship improved! Not as fast as Steve yet but neat as now, wow. Don’t you love the apprenticeship system. It used to be 4 years in Aus, it’s a little quicker now but it does really take that amount of time to train a good tradesman. It really is becoming Steve and Alex Bricklaying absolutely.

Thanks very much, we need to work on the speed now 👌🏼🧱👍🏽

Quality first then speed, that’ll happen.

One thing I do notice Alex, tradesmen in Australia do not sit down ever really. We either kneel or squat. Tradesmen have a spring in your step, the good ones anyway. You are picking it up really fast now.
