Steve and Alex, I just discovered your channel through the magic of the algorithm. New subscriber. Not much brickwork is done in my area so I'm enjoying seeing how it's done. In going thru the older vids I ran across this project. Steve lamenting about the collar being 20% of the cost of the whole vent got me wondering: Is there a reason you don't modify the pipe to make a bell end (heat gun to slightly soften the end of the pipe then slipping the warmed pipe over the periscope end and letting it cool in place)? Is it a code thing in the UK? Hope you can get your turn in the queue for your hip sooner rather than later. (I'll be needing to have the same done but need to push it off for a couple of years until I can get a supplemental healthcare plan when I turn 65, so I empathize.) Best wishes!

@@SteveAndAlexBuild Thanks for the reply. I read your comments in another video that you were scheduled for your replacement on Jan 8th. Have you had your surgery yet? If so, I hope it's turned out well and that you are able to heal quickly without complications. 🩹 Were you able to get the anterior procedure where the incision is in the front versus the back? The recovery is 1-2 weeks because no muscles are cut versus the 6-ish weeks with the conventional rear incision when the muscles are cut in the back. I've found a surgeon that is the only one that does this approach in my area. He did a family member's hips and they were back at work within 2 weeks after each procedure at a physical job. I'll be using that Dr. for my hips as well as both my knees. Will have to have my left knee replaced first as I blew it out 40 years ago when I was a long-haul trucker and had to change careers because I could no longer drive a clutch. (I heard you say that you got to the point you couldn't drive the van to jobs that were far away as the clutch overworked your hip. Ugh! That's familiar!) I've had corrective surgery on that knee twice since then, but was too young for a replacement. Currently, I can't use that knee to take stairs and walk with a cane. That's how I wore out my right hip, by compensating. I'm looking at the beginning of 2026 to do that knee after I get my Medicare supplement that will cover most of my 20% share of the cost that Medicare doesn't cover. It's about 2 months of recovery after the knee surgery before I can get my hip done. Then right knee followed by left hip. Hopefully I can get them all done the same year. I'll be the Bionic Woman by the time I'm done. 🦾 ~Blessings.❤🩹

One of the first things I was told when serving my time was never walk onto the building empty handed, there’s always something needed and even transferred this at home my wife and kids were told don’t go upstairs empty handed if something is needed take it with you don’t put the onus on someone else, hate it when I’d to go onto others work the amount of pigs i had to fix even on a multi million pound job , just because others didn’t take pride in their work and then jacked it in , super work again guys

Hello John, I have exactly the same mentality as you. I have been told that I am O.C.D. because I as a gas engineer always looked around when I went back and forth to the van to see if I had finished with something that is no longer needed and can be put away. I was also a tidy freak, customers were always surprised when after fitting say a gas fire, I would bring in a Hoover and a plastic box with polish and cloths in to clean up 😂😂😂😂

A pig, a grunter, whatever you want to call it is when the foundation or the brickwork itself is out of level by atleast the height of a brick. In other words to get a level wall you will have four bricks on one end and five on the other. I probably didn't explain it very well. As they say, anyone can get a pig in the wall, but it takes a bricklayer to figure out how to fix it.
