Remember, only Capitalism understands money. A dictatorship that wants to control things will never inspire trust that they won’t take your money. USD is the only country that wants you to get rich. China locked up Billionaires. Same problem with Russia because only their friends can get rich and you can’t. If you give them your money and use their money you can never get it back. It even happens when Russia tried to get its money back from China.

BRICS seeks to create a new currency, considering gold's historical role as a store of value and medium of exchange. However, the functionality and acceptance of a gold-backed currency in the current global financial system are uncertain. Creating a new currency requires careful consideration of economic, political, and logistical factors.
@hermanramos7092

The discussions and proposals surrounding BRICS nations' potential use of gold are intriguing. People choose to buy gold for various reasons, such as its historical role as a store of value and medium of exchange, its potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and its relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Gold also offers diversification benefits to investment portfolios due to its low correlation with stocks and bonds. However, investing in gold carries risks and may not be suitable for everyone. Investors should carefully evaluate their objectives, risk tolerance, and financial situation before deciding.

As an Indian, I believe being clubbed with China is doing it more harm than good. However, I think India will continue to be associated with BRICS as it doesn't want to signal to China that it is completely in the western camp. India has some very dangerous neighbours, therefore it needs to play this very carefully.

As an Indian, I have no idea what you're talking about. China has like 70% of BRICS GDP, and Russia's economy is destroyed. So Russia wouldn't really be able to help us. So that increases China's influence even more. So aligning with the US or just leaving BRICS would be a much safer option than being in control of Communist China. I'm 55 and from South Afirca. I remember our Geography teacher talking about the BRICS when I was about 13. That was just about when the fantasists started pushing the idea. When I emigrated from SA to the USA in 2000, it cost me 13 Rand to buy one dollar. If I were stuck trying to do that now it would be over 19 to the dollar. Did not realize how badly they had deteriorated but unfortunately not surprised. Probabaly the single most useless bunch of incompetents and downright unabashed criminals in governement anywhere on the planet. And zero chance of that ever changing. Sad to be sure. But when you look at the BRICS today. Pretty much all you need to realize is, "Losers of the world unite !".

I remember in 2006 and 2007 when there was a ton of talk about the rise of BRIC and the end of the US as an economic power, then 2008 happened. Now China, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa are in even deeper economic straights than then. The only reason China is pushing BRICS is to use Russia, Brazil and South Africa as colonized resource pools and to eliminate the power of India. India is the biggest democracy in the world and will eventually join with the G7, it has strong ties to England, and is on good terms with all the G7 countries. India also increasingly seeing the advantage of having the G7 as military allies against China. China is moving into Pakistan a historic enemy of India, this will further strain ties between India and China and push India further towards aligning itself with the West. This is double true since the US is no longer supporting Pakistan, which it had done for decades to isolate the Soviet Union. During the cold war India followed a position of neutrality between the Soviet block and the US block. It saw an advantage in this policy, but there is no longer an advantage to support the Russians if it drags them into being interdependent with their biggest enemy, China.
@death_parade
@death_parade Жыл бұрын
A very Western viewpoint you have there. Western as in it is born out of the confirmation bias typically seen in a Western mind consuming information from Western sources. 1.) India is not looking for any "alliance". 2.) It is a fallacy that US is no longer supporting Pakistan. On the contrary, US is supporting Pakistan in the hopes that it doesn't slide more into the Chinese orbit. Words USA itself said when selling F-16 spares to Pakistan last year. 3.) Your reading of the Russia-China-India trilateral is mistaken. Russia realizes that China is not its long term ally. And India wants to prey on this Russian insecurity. In such a scenario, Russia will not "drag India into interdependence with the Chinese". Instead it will use India to ensure it doesn't completely become a Chinese vassal. I could also go on about India-G7 relations not being as good as your rose tint would have you believe, but I'd say this is sufficient for now.

As a Brazilian, I can assure you that we as a nation don't really care or think about BRICS at all. It's always been this lax and mostly irrelevant trade alliance in which our President pays lip-service to a bunch of countries we don't really like. Don't get me wrong, we don't have anything against India and South Africa... we just consider them poor and weak, whereas China and Russia are strong but we dislike and fear them. As a general rule, Brazil sees itself as a great power which is pretty much alone in the world and often gets itself stuck in the middle of conflicts it doesn't care about. So I'm pretty sure this goes nowhere. At most, at most, it would cause us to not sanction China or Russia in the case of a World War. Brazil is one of the most peaceful nations in the world and we never fight in wars, but we tend to verbally endorse whomever the USA endorse... so at most BRICS would cause us to be neutral. Ehm... democracy isn't necessary for individual liberties - see constitional monarchies - in fact, during the French Revolution the implementation of individual liberties preceded democracy; but also in England (see Bill of Rights 1689 and note the Magna Carta too in this regard) and it's the constitution - with a separation of power to avoid absolutism - that's quite a bit more important. That being said; (some form of) democracy sure as hell does help.

@@Megabits10000 every country makes its principles based on its interest, quite like the Western 'principle' of backing, arming and financing the global epicentre of terrorism Pakistan even as Pakistan continues to bleed Indians through infiltrations, covert terrorist operations and Islamist radicalization through decades. The West helped Pakistan against India in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, with the U.S. sending warships to threaten India and asking China to open a new theatre of war on its border with India. (It was the coming of the U.S.S.R. to India's rescue that thwarted the U.S. attempts to surround India, and this ultimately pushed an until-then non-aligned India into the Soviet diplomatic camp during the Cold War. And today, the U.S. has the guts to expect India to isolate Russia!) The West aided Pakistan's acquisition of Nuclear Weapons, which are today's the greatest liability to the whole world, given how politically unstable Pakistan is and how radicalized an average Pakistani is. India has principally never formed military blocs with any country, including the former U.S.S.R. with which India had the best relations since the Indian independence from Britain. India has formed economic and diplomatic alliances, though. Like the West's diplomatic alliances have historically targetted Russia and now China too, India's diplomatic alliances have historically targetted Pakistan but are now heavily focussed on China. So, Quad is India's diplomatic and economic alliance against China. Whereas, BRICS which predates the Quad, is India's economic alliance with its developing peers. Yes, China has marched way ahead now and is a developed country by some indicators, but like I said, the BRICS is close to 2 decades old, and at that time China had just started to take off at escape velocity! The 'principled' U.S. issued a statement a few days back saying that it does not want to 'de-couple' from China but simply 'de-risk'! So, even the U.S. does not want to severe its economic ties with China. Likewise, through BRICS, India is maintaining its economic ties with China. Nobody has economically sanctioned China more than India. Even the U.S. has not shown enough spine to restrict or limit Chinese firms and investments. So, given such blatant Western hypocrisy, all this discourse emanating from the preachy West, especially the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Germany, falls flat on its face. The West should sanction the global terror epicentre Pakistan before lecturing about principles to India.

India is not in ANY alliance. It is created partnerships and dialogues (including multilateral ones). Trying to create a more equitable world, one where every single nation does not have to be pigeonholed into either of the US or China blocs, which is what Cold War 2.0 propagandists like you would have us do. India is trying to be the alternative. To solve this Cold War for countries that aren't interested in fighting for imperial reasons. Supposedly most of them will be operational by 2025/26, which could hopefully help with prices and shortages. Even Nvidia the top producer of AI chips, is considering Intel as an option over TSMC to reign in it's bloated prices. The US and Canada also have direct access the the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans. Which is great for exporting to Europe, Africa, or Asia. If North America can start boosting manufacturing and natural resource harvesting, we'd dominate easily. If I were a politician or policy maker, I'd be investing money in our ability to recycle efficiently. Air pollution is one thing, but we definitely need a massive expansion in recycling. Not just plastics, but also aluminum, steel, copper, glass, ect.. My intuition tells me a few mines, oil drills, or pipe lines are doing less ecological damage vs the amount of consumer crap we buy and toss out regularly. I dunno, seems like common sense to me.

Sorry to say but BRICS has bank called New Development Bank and for correction, US Dollar is fiat money, unbacked by any physical asset. A holder of a federal reserve note has no right to demand an asset such as gold or silver from the government in exchange for a note. The purpose of BRICS Currency is to reduce reliance on Dollar and BRICS member can trade without Dollar. Overall, I'm sure that the BRICS member nations are aware that the Western world considers the notion of a BRICS currency replacing the Dollar is a ‘ridiculous’ idea unless China and India become allies. So they are not idiots and of course, everyone want to run away from Dollar even thou Dollar has been a cornerstone of the global financial system for decades, and any significant shifts will occur gradually over time but is happening. No more sanctions

My home country Mexico applied for BRICS membership but was denied and recently BRICS asked Mexico if it wanted to join, and denied them touting its increase of the economy by working with US/EU guidelines, mostly lol!

Mexico seems to be on the up and up. Their workers have become more efficient than Canada's and massive amounts of manufacturing has been re-shored from Asia to Mexico for the American market.

@Pieter-Bas Hoogsteen but we also don't want to depend on the dollar too much. We need a different system to obtain oil. Being in the grips of US will make us dependent in perpetuity. Also as much as I dislike Pakistan, what US did to Imran Khan is pretty despicable. Also FYI, I work in the 3rd biggest US company as a developer, so I am not saying US is the worst or anything like that. But our interests need to be met by US too.
