Great video. I too "move over" at the waist seam when I put an invisible zipper in any dress- I often tack the zipper to the salvage there as well so I can give that slider plenty of room to zip. Most of the invisible zipper replacements I have to do are caused by that too tight to the coil stitching at a pressure point. By bumping out you make it so much easier to zip and a little tack can make it look as if it's sewn perfectly straight. In fact I have made this change to dozens of ready to wear dresses of many types and the customers love it. It is super great with that funky scuba type fabric.

After I looked a few times at the clarity of the last video compared to the one on my computer, I could see that there was something wrong in the online version. It was very low-res. I re-uploaded the video and double checked to make sure that it came through HD. Try tweaking your settings cog to HD and watch the new vid and see if it is much more clear. I love french seams. I.just did those on a 1 YO's Hocus Pocus Sarah Sanderson costume for Halloween. Everytime I tried it on her for fit she made such a fuss I figured she was going to be picky about how it felt. So under the embroidered organza top fabric I did an super soft mauve flannel (nice and warm for Halloween)with the french seams. God forbid any of the embroidery touch the little ones delicate skin. She ended up loving it. Thank goodness!!

Question: I am fitting a curvy bride. It is backless. Oh, just shoot me now. 😱. I took it in at the side. She didn’t like how it felt. Pinched it in at the zipper, she liked this. I am shortening the straps, 4 of them. My question is, this is an A line gown. Do I make small gathers or do I take it out? Of course, it does have buttons all the way down. It just gets “gooder & gooder”. Also told her to get correct foundation wear, or tape the girls up. Thanks for reading, and I am open for suggestions. Love. Love. Love all of your videos. It’s like having a girl party on my sewing room. Book? What book? I saw this on a post somewhere. 💋

When taking in at the center back/zipper, do you always need to replace the zipper? Can it be Reused if you take it out carefully?
@BridalSewing2 жыл бұрын
It can be reused, but that's a matter of personal preference. Personally, I am sickened by the cheapness of the zippers most manufacturers put in wedding gowns. It's really sad to me that a bride can pay well over a thousand dollars for a gown, but be given a 1$ zipper. The whole gown relies on that zipper. I prefer to upgrade when I have the opportunity. Not always, but when I have the opportunity. :)

Its a thick lace all the way and seam up the back, has a satin waist, and ribbon in front and lined and sleeves. I decided to cut up the back and bring it in half inch on each side. I am scared but its time to go for it.

I am still examining it, how does my sage green dress look so professionally made yet it looks made by hand...I am over my head but hoping I can copy the same thing that was done. Do you have any advice on sewing a lapped zipper with buttons?

@MomthatSews5 жыл бұрын
@@BridalSewing Yes sorry, how would you tackle changing an invisible zipper to a lapped zipper with buttons on a dress that has an illusion back that meets satin
@BridalSewing5 жыл бұрын
We wouldn't. Why isn't it kept invisible? That's usually preferred. I've literally never in all my years of sewing had someone request an invisible zipper changed to have a flap. I often work on very high end designer gowns, and when they want buttons and a zipper on an illusion back, they use invisible with the buttons placed to the left. I also have never seen a lapped zipper on an illusion back.
@MomthatSews5 жыл бұрын
@@BridalSewing The image my bride has is of a dress with an illusion back with a button closure no zipper in the illusion fabric just the buttons, but where the illusion meets the satin, on the satin the zipper appears to be slightly lapped and the buttons continue down the center back to the train. I hope I am explaining it right. It is just puzzling me on how that is done.
