Thank you!! I thrifted a beautiful formal dress that needed to be taken in to fit me, and I was unsure how to approach such a complicated project. I appreciate your thorough video on the subject of alterations. :)

I just started doing alterations again! Boy it can be a challenge. It’s even a challenge trying to film it! Good job. I’m up to 5 machines now! I have my craft and sewing room in the same place. I’m begging my husband to make me a nice spot in the basement! Work and fun isn’t so nice!!

Hi I’m very curious, it’s been 4 years now that I do alterations, and when clients comes to me with night dress or wedding dress, I always say no. First I think it’s to much work for what it can pay, and people don’t want to pay because they buy there dress from internet and it was cheap. So I tell them to go on wending dress store, the seamstress there will do that in one clic. Know they say, well it’s gonna cost a lot… 🤷🏼♀️ yep. Anyway just wanted to say, I give you a good hand of applause, because I wouldn’t do this. But I found your video very interesting. And buy curiosity, how much do you charge for dose alterations, if it’s not to bad to ask. I live in Qc Canada. thanks a lot for your information 😊 Cheers

Hello, thanks for watching! Yes, it is a kind of tough business, but I find it reduces a lot of stress if I give them a price up front. If they agree, then great, if not, they can leave. I charge $45 to take in a dress like this. If it has beads or sequins it goes up from there. I know the bridal shops would probably charge $100. I used to say no to wedding gowns too. Now I'm thinking of only doing formal and letting all the casual stuff go because those are the items people don't want to pay to alter. People will happily pay the price for a wedding or prom dress. Glad you found it interesting though! I plan to do lots more videos like this. Nice to talk to another seamstress who understand the business!

Hello! I have a question, why flip the dress from the inside out from that hole you seam ripped at the arm pit--is this necessary if I can flip the top fabric up and over (picture as if you were wearing the dress and pull the edge of the top layer skirt up up up over you’re head so the top and the lining are now separate) is this the same or no?
@pindropshop4 ай бұрын
If they were separate you definitely could do that. This one was all sewn down at the waist . You'd have to rip that out and then you could flip it that direction.
