Came for the silicone elastic technique, stayed for the mind blowing tip about reattaching the dress hangers! I've been doing bridal/formal wear alterations for about 10 years and I'm definitely going to use the stitch in the ditch method moving forward!

I was looking to do this to my graduation dress but got lost since the beginning! Have to leave it to the pros but I'm very entertained 😮
@BridalSewing5 ай бұрын
This one is pretty involved. You could follow along and d.i.y. it, but you'd have to watch it through a few times, and then do a sew along, pausing it as you sew.

You are very knowledgeable and I was going to take in a wedding dress a different way before I seen your video but now I'm totally doing it this way! Ps. the wave sounds in the background made it hard for me to concentrate on the video could be because I have a headache 🙃 or cause I have ADHD

Thank you! When would you choose to take a dress in at the zipper vs the sides?
@BridalSewing Жыл бұрын
Pretty rarely. If the sides are accessible, i start there, usually.

Very nice ! Why didn't they put the cups between the main fabric and the lining ? :/

When you take in the bodice, do you ever take in the elastic bra strap more than what you take it in on the sides? I just did a fitting where I pinned in the side 1 1/2” plus we took in the strip inside another 2”. After seeing what you did, was wondering if I should just do the sides first and see what the bride thinks.
@BridalSewing Жыл бұрын
Yes. I wait & see. Also, you can usually tell if the elastic is a little "shot."

I googled "how to size down bust on satin gown" and your video popped up, but this is the exact dress I am working on 😂😂 But my size down is in the bust. Of course I prefer to take from the sides, but in this case the bust was so big that it almost collapsed and it was actually snug in the waist. I hate taking in bust on satin dresses but truly this is the only way. Do you have any tips for taking in the bust on mikado?
@BridalSewing Жыл бұрын
Sharp, fresh, size 9 to 12 needle. Yes, this dress has a problem with the bust shape.

Do you press the seams as you go at all?
@BridalSewing Жыл бұрын
Only if I notice distortion in the fabric, need to set a fusible, or if hard creases are causing walking. I rarely press as I go for fit alterations. ❤️
@Charlotte-vy2mc Жыл бұрын
Question. Do you only need to take in one side of the dress? Not both so it’s even?
@BridalSewing Жыл бұрын
We absolutely take it in on both sides. It's not always an even amount or even shape though. We take it in to conform to the bride's shape. Some brides have one hip higher than the other. One br*ast may be one side larger, etc.

@@BridalSewing Awesome! Thanks for clarifying! I’m altering a bridesmaid dress and I always watch your videos to do an alteration correctly. Keep up the great work!

Does Mikado have a “suede-ish” feel to it!
@BridalSewing Жыл бұрын
It's hard to describe. It has the body of a very stiff satin or taffeta, but the surface feels smooth, eventhough it has a ribbing look to it. I love it!

I just stitch in the ditch. Lol.

Interesting…I actually hand pick the elastic all the way around to the back then cut the excess at the end and and hand stitch…
