The first story made me cry laugh! My dad was dating someone similar! I was maybe 14? And we were all together, my dad, his girlfriend, her two daughters, and just me. We end up going to taco bell for lunch, we sit down at a booth and my dad is across from me at the table, he reached his hand out to me and says, " I love you boo boo."( Yes, he calls me that still and I'm 37 lol) after my dad says this, we hear a slam and it's his girlfriend pushing her food away from her in a tantrum. (She's 39 at the time) I'm sitting there in complete shock and she actually has the nerve to say, " I can't believe you will tell her you love her and not me!" 😂! I was a pretty good kid but I looked her right in her eyes and said, " Are you actually serious? This is my DAD! You're crazy!". She then stares at my dad with SHOCK! "Are you going to let her speak to me this way?". What he did next was the most gangster thing I've ever seen him do. He looks at her and tells her, " Not only am I going to allow my DAUGHTER to speak to you that way because she isn't wrong. But her and I are going to drop you off at your house and we're going to get ice cream. Because my daughter just help me dodge a bullet! That deserves a reward!" 😂 😂 😂 I wish I was joking! He never spoke to her again 🤷🏻‍♀️😂🤣 and that 31 flavors ice cream was DELICIOUS! Lmao!

Awwwhh!!! I love this story bc 1) I still call my daughter "boo boo" although she's now 23 yo; and 2) I did a similar thing when my daughter was 8 yo. My then bf thought it was ok to tell me that he didnt like her at all. I told him cool so he needs to go find his ideal woman who is definitely not me. 😆

When I got married I had no money. I made a wedding with a couple hundred dollars. I baked a tiered cake (it was beautiful and yum!), I didn’t have a fancy wedding dress and my husband didn’t have a fancy suit. We married on a deck with a view which was connected to my mothers house. What I realized is I could have waited and saved for many many years but seeing my husband there waiting for me smiling with a tear in his eye was the most amazing feeling in the world. Sometimes I think I would have wanted a better dress but when I remember his smile, I regret nothing. I’d have married him in a garbage bag and if he gave me that look I’d still be happy.

Apparently his parents found out that he’s not having his 9 year old there and they decided they’re not going and will instead take the 9 year old somewhere fun for the day. The op was upset because he wanted his parents at his wedding but they wouldn’t budge. If his daughter isn’t there then they aren’t going. End of discussion. The fathers in two of these stories putting their fiancé before their children is even more disturbing to me than the women being bridezillas. You shouldn't put ANYONE above your children! I've been married for 19 years and one of the things I love most about my husband is that I know without a doubt that our children always come first with him! A few years ago we had plans to go out for a nice dinner for our anniversary. Our youngest was excited to be spending the night at a friend's house, but our oldest was at an age where he could stay home alone. We were going to leave him some pizza money and figured he'd be on his Xbox most of the night. When my husband got back from taking our daughter to her friend's house, our son came out and asked what time all of us were leaving to eat. My husband and I just looked at each other, shrugged and told him to be ready in 20 minutes. The three of us had a really nice night together! It was great to spend some time with just him, especially since he was at an age where usually kids don't want to hang out too much with their parents. And now we have a funny little story about how he third wheeled us and ended up making the night so much fun! And my husband and I learned that if just the two of us want to go out to eat, we'll do lunch while the kids are in school! 🤣

western weddings actually shock me… for us Indians, not all people have lavish weddings, or can afford to have massive parties, but one thing is common for us, serving food to anyone who attends the wedding, that can include the person who has decorated/ fixed lights/ dj… even if we reduce the budget for venue, or dress or other expenses, but it’s customary to never send home anyone without feeding them.

@@susankaempfer8427 That's fair, tho it's still shocking at the amount of weddings there (at least based off the many vids and reddit threads that exists) where expenses are burdened on the guests. I suppose those particular people lost the meaning of wedding from a celebration of love to just being an excuse to be entitled? It's kinda sad :( In SEA weddings are paid wholly by the bride+groom and family involved, and even bridesmaid+groomsmen often get the outfit paid for by the bride. Just cultural differences maybe?
@susankaempfer8427
@susankaempfer8427 Жыл бұрын
@@vha3151 I don’t think it’s a cultural difference so much as some people just getting horribly greedy. Until recently, the bride was expected to pay for transportation, bouquets and a gift for the bridesmaids. Bachelorette parties are a recent invention. The bridesmaids in the US were expected to pay for their own dresses, though. I don’t think this is always the case in the UK. I wonder, ironically, if it’s modern egalitarianism that’s causing part of the problem- until recently, most rich people only had rich friends and didn’t have to think twice about whether someone could afford an expensive dress. Anyway, it’s the shockingly inconsiderate ones that make for the best entertainment, not the ones that behave like normal human beings.

I don't want a big lavish wedding (I'm a westerner idk if that's a word or whatever) one, I could never afford it, two, having my family and his family in one place just sounds exhausting and not fun. I want to get married on a beautiful mountain top with just him and our parents siblings and a friend each(my father can legally officiate) and he's said he wants a party. I remember that post on Reddit. Dude even made an update. His parents found out about this, so they completely (and rightfully) flipped their lid. OP and his fiancé got upset when the grandparents decided that instead of coming to the wedding they would take their granddaughter on a nice trip/outing. Which led to drama because “ The fact that I was close to my parents prior to dating my fiancé would make it look like the my parents had a problem with my fiancé”. He last commented that his parents want the youngest to move in with them if it would be better for her. Some more stuff came out in the comments and it sounds like them not wanting his daughter at the wedding was more about optics for the fiancé. If everything OP said was the truth he is so much worse than the ahole here. He even said something along the lines of “my youngest daughter takes things the wrong way when my fiancé makes comments on her appearance over dinner”. The grandparents were furious about that as well. Edit- It was his parents. Not the parents of his first wife. He deleted the post & comments, but someone on the AITD sub saved a copy of the original post. Here's the OP: AITA for not inviting my daughter to my wedding? I (46M) am getting married to my fiancée (39F), we have been together for 3 years. I have two daughters (18F, 9F) from previous relationships. My youngest’s mother left when she was 6. My fiancée is a very sophisticated person and have exquisite tastes. She also does not really care for young children and this has created tension between her and my youngest daughter. While our plans have been delayed due to global circumstances, our plans to get married are finally going ahead. It’s going to be a very lavish and expensive wedding. Due to the nature of the wedding and my fiancée’s preferences, our wedding is also going to be child free. We will, however, be inviting my oldest as she is no longer a child and because, unlike my youngest, her and my fiancée get along well. However, I didn’t realize that my youngest expected to come to the wedding. She tried to tag along with my fiancée and oldest when they were going shopping for a dress for my oldest, because she thought she was going to need a dress too. I explained to her that the wedding was going to be for adults only and that she wouldn’t be attending. She started crying and getting mad which stressed out my fiancée. She has been distraught about this for days and hasn’t let it go. My parents came by to visit today and my youngest told them what had happened. When they asked for clarification on the situation I explained to them that my daughter wouldn’t be attending the wedding because the child free rule applied to her as well. Besides, this wedding would not be suitable for a child and I don’t want my fiancée to have to deal with my daughter on the most important day of her life. My parents told me I was being a terrible father by prioritizing my fiancée over my daughter and that on the day of the wedding they would take my daughter out for a special day, which means they wouldn’t be in the wedding. I told them they couldn’t do that, even if they didn’t attend the wedding I wouldn’t let them take my daughter. This has become a bigger conflict than I intended. My fiancée and I both think we’re in the right for wanting a child free wedding, but it appears I may lose my parents from the wedding over this and I want to know if I’m in the right or not. AITA?

And the flowers have to be put there ON the day, adding even more of a stressful time constraint. That would have been a 4-day project for me, maybe 3 if there aren't too many other projects to work on that week. Is the objective really to use all your loved ones as stagedolls to dress up as idealised strangers that look good for a few photos but otherwise dont resemble your friends/family at all? Why? Fun fact: Divorced fathers OFTEN prioritize their new wife over their children, especially if they have a daughter. I know this because it happened to me. When I was 4 my parents got divorced and both married other people. The woman my father married had two daughters of her own and all three of them treated me like less than shit on the bottom of your shoe and my father never did anything about it. He instead ignored everything and stayed in his garage all day. He even allowed the oldest sister to literally throw away my BED that was at his house and buy a new one for her sister. It was quite literally as if one week I had a bed and the next my bed was gone and I was told to sleep in the living room on the couch or on an old air mattress. There are good fathers in the world, but I've seen more shit fathers than good ones, and that's not a good sign.

So muchso that we started having to put the question into our client paperwork- “will there be a meal provided for the DJ/Emcee?” because otherwise, we have no idea when we arrive if we are “allowed” to eat the food or not. Secondly, I have absolutely had to pack a lunch or not eat while working before, when I have been told food would not be provided for me, unless I paid for it. I have also been told before that if I wanted to eat, I have to do so in the kitchen, because GOD FORBID guests see the “hired help” doing something as diabolical as eating at your wedding. Assuming that the crude style is in line with their personality and they know how the people they are sending the cards to will react. Actually hold on - there was an issue with the dietary restrictions, if someone had a food allergy or was vegetarian/vegan. But assuming they accounted for that elsewhere and just gave everyone something in line with that, then it'd be fine.

The DJ one resonated with me on so many levels. It wasn't for a wedding, but a few years ago I DJ'd for a companies xmas work event. And they had no problem with my fee package and had no problem with catering for me to eat for free and drink for free. However, when everyone was getting up to go and eat, I was in line to get me some food. And as I was nearing the buffet station, a chef/catering member came up to me and asked what I was doing in line. I said getting some food. And she was like um, no you're just the DJ you don't get to eat, and if you want to eat you'll have to pay for it, or go somewhere else to get your food, as this is for the work event only. So I got rather upset and went and talked to the company manager of the event I was working for and said am I not allowed to eat? Do I have to pay for my own food. And the manager so no, you are free to eat and you don't have to pay as per our verbal contract. I then told him that catering manager/chef has said otherwise. And so the manager went and spoke to the catering manager and told her to let me eat and that it was free for me. And that bitch was like she's no one of importance, she's just the DJ. She's here to do her job, so she should go and do it. And so the manager of the event I was working for was like, Okay well I am paying her to DJ the event, and I am also paying you to make the food, so therefore you have no say in who gets to eat and who doesn't. And everyone deserves to eat regardless of the job they are doing, but if you want to be that petty, then I suggest you don't help yourself to the food, and if you want to eat then you'll have to go and pay for it else where. And the chef got so pissed of, that she literally ruined the whole event and damaged my equipment. Me and the company took her and the catering company to court, and they lost their license, and she was never hired in the catering company again, and she had to pay me $5k to fix my gear that she damaged. So yeah. Bloody childish, entiled assholes...

In addition to that everyone is "bragging" and showing off through facebook/insta and so on so the pressure became much higher and what is considered "normal" drastically changed. And there is also more available income and events are the newest status symbols. Plus there is a lot of money to make off of it, so business is also a driving force. When i asked my “friends” to be bridesmaids, I asked that they pay for their dress. I searched all over the internet (2010, I didn’t find Pinterest until a year later) and shops and the best I could do was like a $100 dress. It was formalwear. My friend said she didn’t want to spend the money on something she would never wear again.(27 dresses was also a big show around this time). And she said I was being unreasonable. Uuum…ok? I was upset and probably threw a tantrum of some kind. (It’s stressful planning a wedding) In the end, we bought all the same skirts for everyone as they were on sale at JCPenneys; $20 a piece. So I just asked them to buy a blue shirt. Her mother publicly mocked me on Facebook saying, “the Bridezilla suit didn’t look good on me”. Our friendship was already strained. The friendship basically ended afterwards. Only one of my friends was an actual friend to me. They didn’t give me a bachelorette party, and barely talked to me through the whole process. Maybe I am an a-hole; but you only get married once and I had always been there for those friends. What do y’all think?

And several weeks later he found a wonderful woman who also understands what it means to be a parent. That was 7 years ago and they are still together, living it up in a beautiful new house. They are so wonderful together and I am just so, so happy. They deserve all the happiness, they are good and loving people. I wish more parents were like them.
