I found out I was pregnant right after I was asked to be in a friend's wedding. 9 months later, I stood there, 2 days past my due date, with a chair at the ready, next to my friend as she got married. Did I get a lot of attention? Oh yes I did - I was about to have a baby! In fact right at the beginning of the ceremony she jokingly patted my baby belly when the officiant welcomed everyone, even those not yet ready to meet the world. Did this mean my friend was ignored? Certainly not, she just got married!! Real friends celebrate each other, mourn with each other, support each other, and lift up each other when life gets scary and hard. If your friend isn't doing that, that's not a friend.

Omg poor mader! When a friend of mine was going to a wedding where like mader one of the bridesmaids got cancer and was under going chemotherapy, the bride and other bridesmaids wore wigs to match hers but the biggest surprise was at the reception when everyone including the bride whipped off their wigs to display their billiard ball heads! They had all shaved their heads both in solidarity with their friend and to raise money for breast cancer care! Now thats friendship !!! This woman is just disgusting !

My mom fought ovarian cancer for 2.5 years before dying from it. I've seen how rough cancer is. Your friend and her bridesmaids did a wonderful thing that everyone will remember. This other self-centered bride is horrible. Oh...it's going to ruin her wedding and photos! Oh no! Meanwhile, her friend has a disease that could take her life and leave in a coffin. It's not even close to being the same thing. I hope Mader beats her cancer, and I hope your friend's bridesmaid beat her breast cancer. I hope cancer is cured one day. And I hope the douchebagette learns to be a human.

Many years ago I was a schedules to be bridesmaid at my childhood friend's wedding. I participated in all the pre wedding activities but 3 days before the wedding day I ended up in the hospital having emergency surgery. As I was laid up in the hospital I missed the wedding. I was not replaced as a bridesmaid. My seat at the head table was left empty and everyone was told what had happened. The bride and groom left the reception early and came to see me in the hospital before they went on their honeymoon. These are true friends. Also, their Matron Of Honor was 8 months pregnant with my godson . 50 years later they are all still my friends.

@@magggmae sometimes it really can be. My daughter died 6yrs ago this month, and if she taught me anything its that we humans are terrible with grief and death. We shy away from it all, sweep it up under the carpet like a dirty secret so when the inevitably of grief comes around (because we'll all suffer it at some point or another), we have no clue what to do or how to cope with our feelings of loss and isolation. She also taught me most people aren't trying to be cruel, they just still live in their naivety and haven't a clue what they're really saying to the bereaved. Some still think they can help, or fix, because that's how we're wired, to solve the problem. What they don't realise is the only thing you can ever really do is hold their hand and make them feel a little less alone in the world. I'm so sorry your Dad passed so early in life, life is so very unfair sometimes. Sending love x

I think they mean it as a "better than the alternative" kinda way, as a way of comforting you in a it could be worse thingy. They probably just didn't know better and just said stupid shit without considering how fucked up that is to say, it comes off as hurtfull and is by all means a hurtfull thing to say, but I don't think they say it in order to be mean, they just stupid. Like "well he could have died after growing up and it would be much worse than if he died before you got to know him, so at least it's better than the former." But yes, I agree with you. They need to learn when to shut the fuck up, so a much needed lesson is in order that involves tearing them a new one.

Some mistake their childhood fantasy of being the center of attention as a bride at a gorgeous wedding, with seeing it for what it is. Like, it's not this holy event (thus above any mortal on the guest lists) where the guests will have to make a sacrifice to show their loyalty to you and your new groom. An event to magically grant you access to exploiting people's generosity and good faith. That's called burning bridges on your way towards a new life. 😂

It's the sweet sweet propaganda. Thats actually weirdly really prevalent in modern russian culture as well. Woman by definition should want a wedding for herself and to get kids for herself. Just get whatever guy willing for your wedding and to pump out some babies since you'll likely get divorced anyway but wedding and babies are mandatory. My boss tried to get me a husband like that. He's an old grumpy man with consercative wolrdview "Just marry him and get some kids for yourself while you're young" Like maam kids is the last thing I want and using a man to make some is second to last.

Ive been bridesmaid once and it was for one of the four girls I was closest with in high school and my early twenties. She was such a sweetheart. She paid for pretty much the whole bridesmaid experience. When I slept in on the morning of the wedding and missed my hair and make appt owing to working a horrendously busy night shift the evening before, she called my mum who along with one of my other friends who was a bridesmaid drove to my flat with a Maccies breakfast, a strong cup of tea, drove us to the salon and made it just in time to get done. Instead of getting mad at me, she said “I’m just glad you’re here” and gave me a huge hug. 15 years on we aren’t that close anymore but her marriage is still going strong and she’s got the quintessential house, husband, two kids and a dog life that she always wanted and she thoroughly deserves it ❤ At the wedding her new husband even got us all up individually during his speech to thank us for being so supportive of “me and my lovely wife” and gifted us each with a beautiful mother of Pearl compact mirror engraved with “Bridesmaid” on it. I know I’m almost a year late to this video and my comment doesn’t really have a point but I won’t be marrying myself and most likely will not be a bridesmaid again and watching this and reading some of the comments here, it just occurred to me how lucky I am to have had a good bride/bridesmaid experience and I wanted to share. 😊

This brought back a long-ago memory when a friend was asked to be a June bridesmaid in Oklahoma for her college BF. Being from another state, she never questioned the bride’s choice for the gowns. Velvet. High choker-style necks. Long sleeves. The church had no air conditioning. The minister liked the sound of his own voice (and saw pews full of strangers he could convert). I asked if the bride had a similar gown. It was velvet, but sleeveless and low neck, so I asked if Bride was homely and wanted red faced, sweaty, covered-up bridesmaids to make her look better. Surprised friend said “That makes sense now!” We had a good laugh.

Honestly it’s probably even worse than the miscarriage. I couldn’t imagine.

"It's not like you knew her." My mouth literally dropped at that line. That child was in their body and, depending on how far along they were, they felt every movement they made inside them. They spend time thinking about names, clothes, the baby room, buying toys and necessities, putting up a crib; a whole life was planned out they were looking forward to. And that future is suddenly just GONE. Their child is suddenly gone. Tell someone to just "get over" that.

A friend of mine had a blighted ovum- the embryo never got far enough for a heartbeat, as far as they know. Medical exams left her emotionally drained, to the point where when the placenta et al finally started to jump ship, she thought she was going to bleed to death and was actually at peace with that because of how bad she felt. Don't ever "just a miscarriage".

The last story is vile. Every woman I've ever known who got pregnant was so excited for the baby and was aware of every tiny change and movement inside her. All the planning that goes with a new baby, all the excitement of finding out what they were having, only to lose it and have to say goodbye before even saying hello. Then to have someone say something so trite and unfeeling while you are still processing the loss? Hell no!! My mom lost 2 babies before I was born, and to the day she died she still remembered them. She would sometimes say things like "It would have been your brothers birthday today" then go off for a little cry. No matter how many healthy kids you have later, you never forget or stop grieving the ones you lost.

The only role you play is asking, "What can I do as your friend to help you?" Chemo takes so much out of you...the fact that she even still decided to participate in the wedding at all is pretty amazing, and grieving a loss takes a lot from you too both emotionally and physically, yet both of these women cared enough for their friends that they were willing to put their own pain on hold, as much as possible, and go be in their friends' weddings. Yeah, in my country the wedding presents are exclusively envelopes of cash, following a tradition that got started as giving the newlyweds a head start in life, back in the day, when people married for love and started their marriage with basically nothing material... so the attendees would gift them with livestock, money, house appliances, you know.. kinda like the dowry but extra... now it's just lots of cash and they don't even put up the effort of making the guests feel welcome at their party... it feels a lot like paying them to get married and then help them live off of that for a while (because most of the couples I know, married or not, live together and are pretty well established) or basically sponsor their next bullshit expense.. and the kicker? They only give you a half assed "thank you for sharing our special day with us" when you decide you had enough of the "specialness" and just want to go home and count your losses. Although I am pretty sure that they started to put a tax on that recently, they still get away with a lot, because even if they live abroad they manage to gather a crowd of fools and convince them to come to their weddings here.

I find that "news" at any wedding makes the wedding even more memorable. Like... it's been many years since I've been to any wedding, and I barely remember how everything looked, etc. Just the bride/groom, and just like glimpses. Not how pretty the dresses were, or anything they said or did... none of the efforts they put into that day. It was just all about them, and it was easily forgotten. I'm sure if there was some extra news that day, I would have locked onto more mental images of their wedding and things they did and said. I think it's normal for a bride/groom to go nuts because they're in a terrified state of mind and trying to get it all together. Judging by how all these women seem to think 'I've dreamed of this since I was a little girl' is a valid excuse, our culture needs to stop ramming princess wedding nonsense into little girls heads. So true... I lost 2 Daughter's to stillbirth. My first born at 23 weeks in 2002 from a placenta arrupton. Than my youngest in 2018 during Labor at 39.5 week's. I've also been told this, that I didn't know her, I should be over it and so much more. It's truly sad because even though we didn't have a chance to get to know them on a physical level, we felt there every kick, we felt their hiccups, we gave birth to them, we were waiting their arrival and We were their Mother. She is an awful person. Not only that by what she said, her also wanting to push her to announce her loss on social media, when she obviously wasn't comfortable doing so. I pray she never has to experience that pain. It's a pain I wish on no one. I am in a stillbirth support group online. Weekly we see post like these. I just can't understand how some people's brain work. How can these people be so selfish to say such awful things, to someone who Is already in state of grief, as it is. Huh

I know when I first lost my hair from chemotherapy it was devastating, I was the kid who at 9 had hair past my knees and got it cut and shaved off to make wigs for kids without hair, and raised almost 2000 dollars for cancer research, then at 12 I ended up on chemotherapy long term for severe autoimmune conditions. I was told at 12 I would lose my hair so my mom said go wild and I dyed it cut it and just had fun but it did not fall out during that period it was not until I went off for not quite a year checking for remission and then back on as flare ups happened at 21, that time when I started in again my hair, eye brows and eye lashes did fall out and it was so hard, felt like losing part of who I was and that everyone could see it there was no where to hide. I had never thought who I was had been tied to my hair or appearance as I was always changing it and doing new things but as soon as it was not my choice it was crushing. I was taken off chemo in May as my health took a serious nose dive and it was doing more damage then good, and a new kind of treatment was started, I finally have a nice head of hair, eyebrows very pale but there and my long eye lashes are back. How any of this relates to weddings is I am my best friends Maid of Honor for her wedding in May, I am super excited but also worried as I find out in January if the new treatment is working well enough or if I need to go back on the chemotherapy. Which if I do would probably mean losing all my hair again. I am pretty sure my best friend would not care as that is just not who she is but watching all of these Bridezilla videos is making me paranoid.

Kim Kardashian married Chris Humphries some years ago. The wedding price: $1 Million. Marriage lasted: 72 days. I'd want a nice wedding but not expensive. I'd rather use the money on a honeymoon and use the rest to put into our home. It's not about an extravagant, expensive wedding. It's about why they're getting married and then trying to work to make it last. Marriage is hard work and compromise. It's not 50/50. It's 100/100. Two people going into a marriage broken think it will make them whole. Nope. It'll just be a broken marriage. I don't need a man to 'complete' me. Or vice versa. I don't want an incomplete man.

We made a commitment to each other, signed the papers and that was that. We spend nearly 90% of that time laughing and joking together. This obsession with marriage is seriousely a scourge on humanity, it can and does destroy lives. I wouldn't wish this fate on my worst enemy. Everyone in life deserves happiness, love and respect, but marriage isn't the way to get it trust me.. getting married to the wrong person is soul destroying. It ruins lives. Damn this whole institution, its nothing but a trap for unhappy and needy people. Something to get people to conform to what society wants, when in the end you were born alone and all of us will go to our graves alone. My sincerest wishes that the ex-bridesmaid conquers her leukemia with ass-kicking authority. She's already demonstrated the immense power of her sense of humour, in both the self-effacing pokes she takes at herself and her dilemma, and the bone-melting sarcasm, the vicious "away team, set plasma cannons to 11, no prisoners" megablasts at Bridezilla without mercy, who, without question, deserved every word and much, much more. When a bride makes unfeasible, greedy, petty, and patronizing "but it's my day - it must perfectly match my expectations" demands, coated with a saccharine sweetness to sound reasonable and open to compromise, she's reduced marriage to match her four-year-old-child's fantasy, to only the wedding and her "happiest day of her life", forgetting that a "happily ever after" life wonn't magically materialize, but needs to be built by both parties, together. If she can't, won't, or isn't ready, someone must call for an "abort mission - broken arrow", or there'll be years of misery for the couple and close family. She mentioned "I'm so looking forward to being a wifey." Highly doubtful.

Kind of sad that women think marriage is the end all be all to life. Being married is awesome, and I love it. But it was just a day. After marriage we still have goals, visions, dreams, individual persuits. Like its 1 fucking day of your whole journey as a couple - yes its special and beautiful and should be. But like, come on. It's just a day

@@nela3986 yes sister! So beautiful. Our 5 year is coming up September 15th, while I do love looking back at my wedding photos (haven't in a while - but should lol). It really is about the love. Love is real, and it's all around us. It sounds cliche, but it's so true. We need to live in gratitude of that and live life in awe - then all of the small details no longer matter. I honestly pray these women (and those like them) are able to fill the void within themselves with self love and be able to enjoy the bliss that comes when we truly embrace love, gratitude, and joy.

I had a friend like that. She was the last in her little clique to get married. The ones who married ahead of her had been in long term relationships, and very much in love. She was in such a red hot hurry to have a wedding, dress, engagement ring, etc. That was bigger, better, and more expensive than everyone else, she married someone she’d only known a year. He had money (requisite 1) and bought her the vulgar size diamond she demanded (requisite 1A) She was careful to spend twice as much as everyone else on her dress, an outdated monstrosity, and had the biggest venue, guest list, number of meal choices, highest per plate cost, etc. etc. They lasted a year and a half. Pathetic. She’s 59 now, and still alone. Men have caught on to her nonsense. She’s a very entitled, wannabe Mrs. Got Bucks, who lives to look down her nose and sneer at people. Problem is, she’s a poser. She’s got as much class as a stomped caterpillar. We’re not friends anymore, I got sick of her snotty superior posturing.

The one about the baby made me cry because as a mother that has lost a child, that has to be the most insensitive thing to say, if you're truly her friend that wouldn't matter. It's been 21 years for me May 7 this year and i still break down. Losing a child is something you'll never get over let alone telling her 2 months should have been enough time. I agree that is not a person you'd want as a so called friend.
