@@bridge4 I really missed this "funny asshole Jaime'', he was so savage and it was gold. Right. The line "the Lannister's send their regards/give mine to Robb Stark" is essentially "Next time you meet up with Robb Stark at his own King's counsel, tell him you're also meeting up with the Lannisters, ya filthy animal." It's one of those lines that needs a bit of think-time.

I would go as far as to say that virtually everything Jaimie has ever done (minus his relationship with Cersei and pushing Bran) has been honorable. Even though his relationship with Cersei was unhealthy and immoral, he was faithful to her. He was never with anyone else. He saved all the Innocents in KL at great sacrifice to himself, I even think he respected Ned and The Blackfish and just wanted them to respect him too. I agree that he only threatened Edmure with killing his son in order to keep the loss of life to a minimum. Really everything he's ever done has minimized loss of life. Even pushing Bran. By doing that he saved four lives, three of whom were children. Challenging Robb to single combat to save lives, just like Jon did with Ramsey. Jaime also has a lot of parallels to Jon, which I find interesting.

i was originally going to do a book version and a show version. but then i realized last night that i had already half completed half of this hybrid version a couple months ago so i meant to add in a nice line from the show which woudl've been the icing so Randyll Tarly in s7e1 or 2. the one where jaime recruits him. Randyll holds the red wedding against him. so its the classic theme of guilt by association (similar to Sandor in Beric's cave "is being born Clegane a crime!?!") ... cause sandor wasnt burning the riverlands. and Jaime didnt plan, encourage, or help carry out the Red wedding i wish i had remembered to end the video with that concept :-/ ah well

If he had to agree to the killing of some starks to get back "in 2 pieces" Id imagine at that stage he would be happy to slaughter a thousand northerners.. Not that he would have had a choice, Tywin would be slaying the starks regardless and I wonder what the point would be in telling Jaime9swings back to he maybe did not know0

I think it was more of a "I was set free by your own mum and now happily on my way back to go fuck my own sister" kind of thing. Still rubbing it in though. I think GRRM wrote the "Jaime Lannister sends his regards" thing specifically so Catelyn would feel the mistake and betrayal of Jaime after having set him free just before she died. So that it at least looked to HER, Jaime was part of it. Making him the ultimate target for Stoneheart's wrath, however misguided.

Late to comment here, but I think there are probably two reasons why they changed the phrasing of Roose giving regards. 1. To make it clear in the moment that Tywin was involved in the scheme. 2. I have a crazy (or not so crazy) theory about Jaime. By all accounts, Jaime is the most decent leader and commander left in Westeros. Everything he has ever done, has been for others than himself. He is a great strategist and a cunning warrior, and he does everything while trying to spare as many lives as possible. So my theory is, that we might see Jaime sit on the Iron Throne! Now, whether it would be at the end of it all, that's a whole other story, but in the original outline for ASOIAF, Jaime killed everyone who came in his way, and took the throne. I can easily see this happen in the actual story. Jaime is not, and will never be interested in power, but if it is to protect others, I don't think he would hesitate. He knows how fucked King's Landing and its citizens will be under Cercei & Euron's reign, so for the good of the people, Jaime kills both Euron and Cercei in the great hall, for then to place himself on the Iron Throne. Imagine then, if Jon walks in to see Jaime sitting there, on the Iron Throne, just as Ned did back at Robert's Rebellion.... epic! I know it's super far fetched, but GRRM always plays with our expectations, so I don't think it's very far off ;)

I did my Jaime outlines back in December 2017, when he became my favorite character. And for a few months or may longer, I expected what you said. King Jaime and also queen brienne. As I like the theory, I can't see how the people would accept him. So far, only Brienne, Tyrion, perhaps man's who fought along his side and some of us the viewers knows that he is a good man of honor, but remember that most of Westeros from Dorne to the wall still thinks he is one of the worst dishonorable man in the whole kingdom. Not one northerner would ever bend to the kingslayer

It's basically a "adios bitches" moment for jaime. I agree with everything you said, jaime is a confident witty dude....and despite being covered in shit and malnourished he does not back down or tone his personality down in fear, it's why he took on brienne while chained, weakened and malnourished and made jokes even after the northerners took his hand. He knew how valuable of a hostage he was and how hard Robb had tried to recapture him, so as a slight revenge of words it was like a taunt to Robb that his own Bannerman was letting him go. Hence, he sends his regards.

This is great. There are few things I enjoy more than analysis. Despite Jaime’s somewhat skewed sense of morality at times, I was always under the impression he didn’t know about the Red Wedding, either. He’s more of a fight-you-face-to-face kind of man, which is honorable in its way. He may embellish and jape and provoke his enemies with words, but he’s not a conniving intellectual schemer like Tywin, Cersei, or Tyrion. I think that’s a major distinction shown in both the books and show.

Of course Jaime knew Bolton and Frey would betray Robb Stark. How is not the question, but Jaime knew betrayal was coming. “You’ll give my regards to Robb Stark, won’t you?” and Jaime doesn’t mean that Bolton will give Robb a warm hand shake and a bro hug. Tywin plotting with Frey and Bolton has to be communicated to them somehow. Not by ravens, mind you. Those can get intercepted. No, Jaime was involved and an important messenger. Luckily for him, no one survived the Red Wedding on the Stark side to relay what Roose said to Robb as he stabbed him. Now in the books Roose stabs Robb through the heart from the back and says “Jaime Lannister send his regards.” Then he twists the sword. Bran can see what happened at the Red Wedding, but he won’t. The question is what will Bran do when he sees Jaime when he arrives at Winterfell.
@gcs7817

Tha_ Jet_King At this point Bran doesn’t give a crap about the fact that Jaime pushed him out the window. That doesn’t mean Jon and Arya won’t be so forgiving, especially revenge seeking Arya who is hell bent on killing everyone involved in killing her family. So when Arya finds out that the Lannister’s were behind the Red Wedding and the Frey/Bolton plot....

I have found myself liking Jamie more and more throughout this whole show series. It has never crossed my mind that Jamie knew about the Red Wedding and you just confirmed it. I do believe that Jamie won’t make it to the end but he will regain his honor and his deeds will be written down in the book by Breanne. She has been the biggest influence on how Jamie has been redeeming himself. It’s been slow but you see it....

Why has _nobody_ put a sword holder on his golden hand! Would make his life easier and he'd be less vulnerable to literally everybody. Tyrion had plans to help Bran... he had nothing for a missing hand? Side note... I bet bridge4 has a great singing voice
@liamsmith331

Meh. Wouldn't really be the same as having a real hand, you need to be able to change your grip. Switching to the left hand would almost certainly be better than using a sword just locked firmly at the end of your arm.
@lisa-sz8jj
@lisa-sz8jj 5 жыл бұрын
@@liamsmith331 yeah practicing with his other hand was a smart move but he'd be more bad ass as one of the best swordsmen in westeros if he could fight with both. And it would shock everyone who'd heard the gossip he'd lost his sword hand to see him in a battle using both. I guess that it was one of his lessons though
@RedSonya4
@RedSonya4 5 жыл бұрын
sweeter spirits7 Jaime would actually be better off with a smallish shield strapped to his right arm. It’s actually quite impossible to fight with a sword strapped to your hand. You don’t need nearly as much flexibility and mobility with a shield. Shields also double as weapons in real fights. Tv and films tend to overlook this. Plus, he’d be screwed if h had a sword attached to his hand and he got the sword jammed into an opponent’s armor.

Your analysis of Jaimie is about as spot on as one can be. Whether in the books or the show, I see a long, slow arc of the Kingslayer becoming the knight he was supposed to have been years ago. His past crimes are numerous, and speak of a spoiled, jaded youth, easily manipulated and puppetted by his sister, his father, his previous (Mad) king, and the succession of warring interests and poorly followed mentors. He has learned some harsh and horrible lessons, leading up to the reluctant opening of his eyes to the world around him that his own weaknesses have helped to create. Oathbreaker, Kingslayer, Cuckolder, Incestuous... What WILL his page (singular...) say in the Knightsguard Book of Deeds?

I always just assumed Jaime told Bolton to send his regards because when Jaime was Robb's prisoner he made a joke about Robb dragging Jaime from camp to camp instead of just leaving him in one place. Jaime would have been dragged to the wedding is Catelyn didn't betray her son. Jaime was mocking Robb.

First of all love all of your GoT content, secondly I just noticed that in the hounds first fire vision of eastwatch and arrowhead mountain the fire violently cracks or a log falls just after the hound mentions the wall at eastwatch. After realizing this was a very clear foreshadow of the wall coming down there and to me felt like the strongest sign of R'hllor directly warning of the Night king. The show has also seemed to expose magic and religion at a similar pace, obviously these two things are heavily connected in this world but I would be very interested to hear your thoughts. PS. I am not a reader, your channel is one of the few I enjoy so 90% of my book knowledge is from your videos, if anything I said was dumb please forgive my laziness and ignorance. PS. PS. Do more LotR stuff. The amazon show is going to be huge and there is an endless amount of lore for content in that world.

AFFC Jaime is the best character ever. His inner change arc is great. I think the show made a mess of it by extending the twincest after his reuturn upon KL. It is amazing how GRRM lets us inside the mind of the most hated character up to that point only to find out that he is a troubled, insightful man.

In the book, he wasn't out to kill Ned Stark when he confronted him in King's Landing. He just wanted to kill Ned's companions as a show of force/as retaliation for Tyrion's capture, which isn't exactly honourable. He actually left before the fighting started, but it seems he had given his men orders not to kill Ned, as Ned is the only survivor of the Stark party. Ned breaking his leg was an accident in the book; a horse fell on him. No one stabbed him. It actually messed up Tywin Lannister's plans a bit, as Tywin had sent the Mountain raiding the Riverlands in the hope that Ned himself would lead the small army sent to bring Gregor Clegane to justice, with the goal of ambushing and capturing him to exchange him for Tyrion. Instead, because Ned's leg was broken, Beric Dondarrion was appointed to lead the army. The ambush still happened. TL;DR: Jaime didn't spare Ned for honour's sake, and as a matter of fact the entire attack was pretty dishonourable to begin with

I have the read the books multiple times and have seen the show. It was always my understanding that Jaime orchestrated the Red Wedding. Specifically when he tells Roose Bolton that the Lannister pay best. More importantly, there is the look and reaction from Brianne. Who was too naive to understand what was going on. Jaime is a person that attempts to be honorable, but always commits something dishonorable in the belief that it would save lives. For example kills the Mad King, under the belief that his burning of kings landing would kill more lives. Orchestrates the Red Wedding, under the belief that it would end the war. And then always regrets it. Fulfilling his role as a character that is neither black or white.

My view on the regards dialogues - Jaime knew Robb was furious that Jaime escaped. Just to piss him off a bit more, Jaime decided to get Roose (one of Robb's closest bannermen) to give him his regards. Jaime didn't know about the Red Wedding, and that's why it played out flawlessly in his mind. When Roose tells Robb "Jaime Lannister sends his regards" - it means that Roose wants the last thing Robb to know is that Jaime set up the Red Wedding and got the Stark family butchered. He wanted Robb to die thinking that the reason his family had to end like this was the result of one mistake by his own mother.
