I just hope that social services have better programs to investigate potential parents, match parents to children, follow up and training about the trials of adoption than the ones that existed in the 1950’s when I was adopted. Parents need to understand the trauma that an abandoned and perhaps abused child has gone through and be prepared to support them through what may be a difficult transition and the processing of these early devastating blows.
