I have lived in Bridlington all my life, I'm now 68 and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have seen lots of changes, some not for the better, but there is a lot work been carried out at moment that hopefully will make Bridlington a lot nicer, and bring back some of the visitors that came in the 50s and 60s.
@GimbalWalkTV4 жыл бұрын

Grand Parents lived in "Brid" back in the 60`s. So I have been there 100, but more likely 200 times. Gran used to save every "Thruppenny bit" she could get hold of to give to my siblings and me to spend in the "Joyntments" as she called them. The old rock shop on the sea front used to have a window, through which you could watch them making the rock, it was truly mesmerising for a young lad. Many many Happy memories of Brid, but it has changed a lot. A great place to go for a day trip or a full Holiday. :-)))))

Used to be taken there as a child in the mid '60's to early '70's. Loved the little motor boats and the trampolines that were set above small pits instead of stood up on a frame spent hours there and loved it. Surprised no one has mentioned the Bridlington Belle the trips out to Flamborough Head with the guy playing the typical seafarer's squeeze box were a delight or sometimes a trip up to the Lighthouse itself. The little train that in actual fact ran on tyres up to Sewerby. The fishing off of the Harbour wall with a line wrapped around a small frame and the bait shop for your bait, seemed all I ever caught were fish with the dodgy spines that the older chaps around would warn me of and deal with for me. From the sublime to the ridiculous one year as we stayed in a let above a butchers near the Harbour trying to sleep on a mattress that was like a 3D relief map of the Himalayas, the sort that was the butt of many a comedian's stock of grouchy landladies and lumpy mattresses. At least the old sot had won at the horses that year on the way home with the holiday money instead of losing it all so no bad start and plenty of spends lol. Even with the usual miserable bad start as soon as we got there that was me happy for the week:) The change is quite staggering of course and I had difficulty orientating myself fully but enough still recognisable to bring back some lovely memories. Thank you for an excellent video.

Very good video I live only 2 miles from Bridlington and a lot has changed and on the hole it has improved may it long continue.Going up Queen St and passing Queen's Square it was down here that Bridlingtons first night club opened in the early 1960's called The Dolphin Club (and it didn't have a licence so no BOOZE). Going toward's the Spa Royal Hall were the Fish & Chip shop is along side Aloma all that was originally called The Captains Table and that's were myself and my late first wife had our wedding reception in May 1972 .Bridlington is getting there with its improvements i'm sure ,but it would have been great to have had the original Marina built that was proposed in the 1960's by the DELSOM Company.If that had come in to fruition,Bridlington would have been top of the tree. I must say I JUST LOVE SKEGNESS AS WELL.Many happy memories.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

As a schoolboy in Brid in the 60s I got a summer job with French's Ice-cream. Selling ice-cream on the beach. George French had about 6 stalls and I think over a few years I probably worked on them all. The stalls were kept in pieces near where they were assembled. I would assemble the stall then wait for George to deliver the tub of ice-cream and the cornets. Some stalls had to be moved off the beach and onto the promenade when the tide came in. George would arrive to help. One afternoon he was late, and I ended up standing in 6 inches of water - still serving a long queue of customers (who seemed to find it amusing) when he eventually arrived. I anyone is interested I have several other anecdotes I can share. Say if you would like. George was a great boss.

The lad on the lemonade stall and I took turns watching each other's stall while the other went up for a sample. Wearing our white coats then without them, hoping they would not realise we had been before. Good week!
