She was murdering hedonistic trash that only thought of herself. She decided to stay in prison because she was too old and sick to be the party girl anymore. Right? I've been researching silent film stars for a project and they're all getting married after a week or so and then divorcing like it's not even a thing. At that time in Cali, it was the law that from filing to finalizing there was a year for the couple to make it work. So, many just hopped to Mexico and divorced. This is also ironic since Mexico, as it is now, was a Catholic nation and opposed to divorce. But...why marry so quickly just for all that heartache and waiting around to divorce? I'm from Cleveland, and I know this crime very well. The bridge party was actually in Parma, a suburb of Cleveland. There is speculation that Velma only became engaged to William (who was heartbroken) and Eddie to cover the fact that she was lesbian. She preferred pants and short hair, and apparently made overtures to Mabel Young - who only saw Velma as a platonic friend. The matron of the Marysville prison had notes that she disapproved of the way Velma dressed and carried herself. There are many pictures of her during this time and she definitely looks more masculine.

Figures right??? Unfortunately all the people I’ve experienced from there are horrible people. I know not the whole state is but the vast majority appears to be off the rocker in one way or another

I just discovered your channel and am most impressed. I live midway between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio; so, this case is of great interest. My Grandmother was a nurse and actually worked with Sam Sheppard for a brief time. She believed him innocent of his wife's murder to her last breath. The 1920s and 1930s were wild times in Cleveland, with so many homicides that famous lawmen, like Elliott Ness, were brought in to head the police department. Only the infamy of bloody Chicago over shadowed the crime in that city.

Thankyou so much for your comment, my mum used to live in Canton, Ohio so when I started researching cases from the USA I was surprised at how many were from Ohio but that may be because the state was very good at recording everything :)
@Pulsatyr4 жыл бұрын
@@BriefCaseOfficial Canton is my second home! I served as Grand Master of Cryptic Masons a few years back, and spent a lot of time with the guys from Canton. In the 1990s, I followed their Minor League Baseball team and frequented their dart shops. You are correct about the documentation. The state has been a breeding ground for journalists since the mid 1800s. Because of the geography of Ohio, it has become both an agricultural and industrial hub of the U.S., attracting all kinds of people. John Brown, a major nut in our nation's history, was an officer in my Lodge. From the brilliant to the kooks, we have it all.

Thankyou that is so Interesting, When I was younger I drove from Denver to Toronto and we passed Cleveland, I wanted to stop but we were on a time limit so didn't :( I was intrigued as to why so many 19th and early 20th crimes were from there and now understand that it is the 7th biggest State in the USA in population and always been very good and documenting its history :)
