Jumping in and hoping. I have a Snapper model 21351 with, I believe, a Briggs and Stratton 3.5 hp engine. Yesterday it was running fine until it seemed the grass tube was plugged. I tried to make it to the edge of the yard but, just as I got there it stalled. It has not run since. I must have pulled 100 times yesterday with no joy. I did pull the air cleaner off and it would run for a short time coughing and sputter like me every morning. Left it overnight, cleaned the sponge rubber filter but simply put the cleaner case back on while the sponge dried, and on the second or third pull I was able to get it running for about 5 seconds before it stalled again. No bad gas as far as I know but it behaves like it is running out of gas. Maybe because the filter is not being used? Maybe something else? At age 74 I'm pretty close to giving up though my yard (2/3 acre) must be mowed when I can. I live in the tropics and, for a couple of days we've had dry weather so now is the time. Advice? p.s. installed the air filter same behavior.

HI... Running fine and then not.... By chance do you think you hit something substantial in the yard? IF you had water in the gas it shouldn't have been running fine the whole time. If you hit something in the yard, there's a chance the flywheel got knocked out of time and sheered the pin on the crankshaft.. Of course I'm just guessing. Pull out the spark plug and see if it's covered with fuel/ oil... that would cause a problem too. Another quick indication is if the blade looks like it's bent. This condition will almost always bend the blade.

too bad they don't make them anymore, these actually were better then the new ones. just have to change the diaphragm every now and then and maybe the primer also I have had to replace more metal gas tanks because of rust or holes in tank, I use to have a stash of used gas tanks I pulled off of machines I couldn't save, but I have used them all in repairs now

Awesome! Yes they were good little engines for sure... I was surprised the gas tank on this one was ok after 20+ years...

I need the thin spring on the throttle lever. Do you know what that part is? My Engine & Carb looks like yours does.

HI... Yes I know which part you're talking about, but I am not sure of the part number. If you look at the top engine cover just above where the head is there's a series of numbers there. Model, type, s/n... If you take that model and go to a website like www.partstree.com you'll be able to plug in that info. You can see the parts breakdown and identify that spring and it's part number...

@@JLPicard440 mine stopped working. it runs for afew minutes, and shut down. Then on and off. I thought it was the ignition coil, replaced but not work.

After it shuts down does it start right back up? Or do you have to wait a few minutes before it'll start again.

Ok... So if you don't have one already I suggest either going to harbor freight if you have one locally, or if you don't then you can order one from Amazon. It's a spark checker. It's basically a Neon light that goes inline with your spark wire and when you pull on the string it'll glow showing you the spark is working. Even though you replaced the coil, there could still be something wrong and your not getting spark.... Another way of doing it is pulling out the spark plug and holding the threaded part on something metal and pulling the string. You'll see the spark jumping across the electrode... I don't really recommend this since if you're not used to working with high voltage, there is a shock hazard.... If you've established you're getting good spark, then it has to be fuel related... unless your compression is bad... If you feel a bump while you're pulling the string, then it's probably not that either.
