The human body doesn't need much carbs, only to refill your glycogen when needed. Using fats as energysource and the protein will build the muscle.

My body was so used to having high carbs for strength. But felt a little bloated with a little tummy🙃. It was hard to listen to Rics Diet but i thought to my self i want to look like they did in past not present so did it(high protein with healthy fats low carbs) im telling u my body took a few weeks to get use to it but now my body has adjusted to depending on fats instead of carbs now my stomach is flat😀 Thanks Ric!!(eat more eggs bacon and cottage cheese) fats will give u so much energy and u will feel great give it a try.

Thanks for the compliments on my conditioning which I attribute to my ketogenic diet. The low carbs has not been detrimental to my muscle mass except looking flat due to the low levels of muscle glycogen and the water associated with holding glycogen.

Its amazing how different people's beliefs can be. In this case, being the HCLF vs LCHF topic. Personally, I think LCHF makes the most sense because low insulin is crucial for fat loss and to heal (or prevent) so many health conditions that largely stem from insulin resistance. High Cholesterol and High Saturated Fat/Monounsaturated Fat while eating very low carb (except for maybe low carb vegetables) are helpful in building up your Testosterone levels, which should then help with building more muscle/losing more fat (which then should lead to more of the same). Obviously, if you have good genetics (no insulin resistance/naturally high testosterone levels) you won't really need this extra boost and can probably get away with more carbs/lower fats, but can you imagine the possibilities if you ate in a way to increase your testosterone naturally even further?! Obese people who follow advice that says to eat carbs, multiple meals and to cut calories, might lose weight temporarily but there metabolism is likely to get slaughtered. Obese people need to be in Ketosis = Fat Burning Mode. Of course intermittent fasting should be incorporated. Calorie cutting IMO should only be done when in Ketosis, otherwise your metabolism may slow down to compensate for the lower caloric consumption. When in ketosis your body is likely to take what it needs from your excess body fat, therefore not needing to slow down your metabolism. Otherwise everyone who does extended fasting would gain a lot of fat when done fasting, which I don't think really happens as long as your diet is controlled and ketogenic. PEACE! lol jk!

Doug seems to operate on the assumption that what works anecdotally for him is scientific fact. Different thing work for different people, and many people bloat eating as much carbs as he claims to eat.

Doug is Awesome. However, I am not sure EVERYONE does best on carbohydrates all the time. I kind of like the 70’s meat and veggies diet. Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale set a lot of powerlifting records on such diet and really showed that not only is if possible but better (in some ways).

Doug Brignole's book needs to be out on shelves already so people can be educated on the biomechanics of lifting weights! It's shocking on how many KZbin fitness gurus have no knowledge of this! They're completely unaware of the useful knowledge that is presented in your videos with Doug. They also should be watching your videos with Jerry Brainum, who is an absolute genius in regards to the bodybuilding diet and the supplements involved in it.

A couple of things. If you are trying to become a body builder you are going to need a certain level of good carbs, however if you are in a different sport, not trying to gain muscle mass, or a general member of the public trying to lose weight then you don't need the carbs everyday (btw there isnt anything wrong with carbs), however allot depends on hormones, body type, metabolism, levels of insulin , etc. Also reducing the sugar intake (especially when eating a junk meal like pizza) is paramount.

Clarence Bass. I remember he wrote a booklet in the eighties named ripped or so. Funny story about that. A guy asked Bertil Fox what he thought about Clarence. The answer was; " he make me laugh" Basically the only thing, with all respect, the man had were abs….People get so confused these days and everybody wants a piece of the cake. Money. Chicken and rice. How simple can it be. bertil fox in his early days was a tram car driver at the time eating 30 eggs a day…...I tried it also, but gave up . Eating should , like training be fun. After 42 years in this game I have yet to discover one secret. When it comes down to "knowledge" (to know how) nobody really "knows" I always notice when the experts find it hard to give an answer to a somewhat difficult question it is:"everybody is different or he/she has the genetics", but you are doing a great job Ric with this channel. It brings back so many memories.

No BS , the ketogenic diet makes you lose muscles. 70% of calories from fat...Both agreed is not working, but its good for a while, 1 or 2 months, you will lose fat because of low insulin that comes from zero carb diet. But : ketogenic is a diet that needs changing- back to carbs for a week, or keto 5 days, then 3 days back to moderate carb...it doesn t matter how many days...But keto will make majority of people lose muscle sooner or later. Moderate carb is not keto anymore, no matter how much fat you eat.

never discussed slow carbs in vegetables versus fast carbs in rice, potatoes, flour, etc. No talk on Gly Load either. Did not discuss ketosis. Thirst comes long after your body needs hydration. Did not discuss glycation or gluconeogenesis. I appreciated the discussion but it seemed to prescribe that a balanced meal, based on the food pyramid was ideal for folks who work out (mix of resistance and cardio exercise) and for deal health. I've not found that to be true at all.

say if your optimum protein intake was about 150g per day and you were over consuming protein by about 100g, how much would convert to glucose? would that be dependent on activity level and how much protein your body needs on a given day?

Guys stop this...this keto shit or this pure fruit shit or just smoothie diets....guys...guys...we NEED IT ALL. Have a balance or greens, fruits and meats. That is all. Ric even said that on sundays he would eat like a pig bc not having carbs would deprive him. A balance diet is what is needed. Good carbs, proteins and some greens. Just cut completey or barely have processed sugar, sodas...candies and processed chocolate. Besides that, weight train, some good cardio for good heart health and you will be fine. Stop making this shit like rocket science.

+Lord Belial never said its the only source. but it is the most efficient source of glucose which required for energy. notice how ur lifts go up after a refeed day. thats cuz of increase in carbs, which also regulates leptin. also, it sparks a "woosh effect" which is nothing but emptying of fat cells on receiving signal from the body that it doesnt need to hold on to water weight due to high cortisol levels. also, "diet" fits 20th century ideology. its quite outdated. think nutrition. the most effective and sustainable nutritional stance is which has minimal impact/change when incorporated while dealing with real world norms. examine.com/blog/really-low-fat-vs-somewhat-lower-carb/?Examine.com+Insiders&Lower_cab_vs_low_fat8_17_2015&goal=0_e4d662cb1b-40d5e9d05d-70208569&mc_cid=40d5e9d05d&mc_eid=368fcc0a19 cals in vs cals out. period.

And i never cycle carbs.Even when i up my carbs,it's still under 50g a day. :) Diet is a word, just like any other. For me,it is a lifestyle,a way of eating. There is no time frame attached to it. But yeah,i will play a bit with TKD and ingest most of my daily carbs(in form of simple sugars) prior to my workout, just to see what happens.

Steroid free is extremely difficult to build quality muscle. The thing that is TOTALLY impossible is that without carbohydrates your performance will suck BIG TIME.Cutting a whole macronutrient from your diet and this specific macronutrient happens to be the best energy source that your body is CONSTANTLY every second trying to find in order to function perfectly is a horrible strategy especially for bodybuilders and athletes.Fats yeah they provide energy and the truth is that they are more energy DENSE in matters of ATP production compairing with carbs BUT.Fats get burned MUCH SLOWER than carbs cause they need 7 TIMES MORE OXYGEN in order to get burned.Even MCT from palm and or coconut cannot win the carbs in matters of energy.Carbohydrates are HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE SOURCE of energy. Its like compairing KEROSENE that airplanes use (thats the carbs) with petroleum (thats the fats) when you need energy especially in ANAEROBIC activity you need it NOW not tomorrow. And of course carbs are highly anabolic cause they have the relationship with insulin and also many carbohydrate foods are also extremely health and loaded with protein minerals fiber and other phytochemicals and micronutrients.Of course i'm talking about the quality carbohydrates not doughnuts and french fries.Fat is ok for LOW INTENSITY activities NOT FOR HIGH.Fat has other reasons for the human body (hormone production, some vitamin absorbance, thermoregulation, health of nails and hair and some others).Saturated fats in MINIMUM are ok especially in the form of MCT (palm, coconut) we produce enough saturated fats.Too much can create insulin resistance and other helath problems.

+TheWaqy Eggs is a super food, every one knows that even Jerry Brainum bodybuilding guru emphasises the whole egg. Been known for years

+ric drasin i was speaking in terms of health not bodybuilding. The saturated fats and bad cholesterol are not healthy which is why it is against the law to state that eggs are healthy or a good source of protein or nutritious when advertising them on tv. Look it up if you don't believe me.

+TheWaqy yeah eggs are a so called superfood. I think the best question to ask is how many eggs eaten on average per day is too many. There is a point at which you can be consuming too much cholesterol from the egg yolks. From the research I have done and training with heavy weights I am happy with 3 whole eggs and as many egg whites as you can eat comfortably Every single day. There are lots of benefits in eating the yolks. I count 3 egg whites as the equivalent amount of protein as 1 whole egg.

"Look it up if you don't believe me." LOL what is that suppose to prove? The internet is full of BS! Especially nowadays with this vegan propaganda shit against animal products.
