People complain they want a more basic model, and Nissan delvers USA-made value again. To be any cheaper in this inflated market, they'd have to offer a 4 cylinder again, ceank windows, rubber mats, etc.

While the Frontier is nice, $38k is not affordable by any means. It’s absurd how society has deemed a basic truck that does not really many features is affordable at $38k. If you were to get this at 5 years, and were able to get it for $38k out the door, that’s a $633 car payment. Thats ridiculous.
@jeanclaude7018
@jeanclaude7018 Күн бұрын
@@ChrisGardnerYT The problem is partly planned inflation, but partly what one expects in a "basic" truck. "Basic" is now expected to be at least 300 HP 4x4, extended cab, power seats, windows, steering, bedliner, stereo,,etc, etc. I can remember when companies like Mazda advertised their basic truck on TV at $5995. And you bet it was basic, but it WORKED. I have a mid-grade Nissan XE Hardbody from.1987. The "upgrades" were PS, AC, a tach, carpet and cloth instead of all vinyl, and that's about IT. That was just under $10k new. With a 4 cylinder and manual transmission, and crank windows I find it very adequate to this day, but most spoiled snowflakes today wouldn't even accept this as a BASE model. What, NO infotainment screen at all? No USB? NO power seats with heaters? All these goodies cost MONEY to produce, and people DEMAND them as standard. The generation before me really had it rough. Most ALL pickups from my dad's gen had NO power steering and even power brakes were optional. Some even had heaters and AM radios, even two sun visors, as options. Extended cabs were not seen. And those trucks built the spoiled country we have now.
@theinfinitymachine9610
@theinfinitymachine9610 Күн бұрын
At this market and time, there is no more new small trucks (not counting the unibody Maverick). Use your 10k to buy a used single cab Tacoma or Ranger with manual transmission, hand crank windows, no AC and 2wd. That's what basic base model used to mean.
@jeanclaude7018
@jeanclaude7018 Күн бұрын
@@theinfinitymachine9610 I parked my Hardbody next to a Maverick, and the unibody Maverick is STILL bigger than my framed mini truck. And the bed is tiny. As a 50 year driver of Nissan pickups, I suggest adding the Frontier to your list. My Hardbody only has 430,000 miles, but there's a million mile Frontier on TFL truck channel to show what these things can do under daily working conditions. 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual, of course. Not to bash the VG and VQ V-6 either, as they are excellent, but the economy of the 4 banger works well for me. I can pull or haul a full ton if I have to, just carefully.
@drecksaukerl
@drecksaukerl Күн бұрын
If they built an absolutely spartan truck with a NA 4 banger, 2WD and a stick shift with just an AM radio and crank windows, they could probably sell it for 22 grand with current safety and emission standards considered. And Nissan would lose their shirts on it because nobody would buy it. Not enough power. Not enough tech or creature comforts. People have already whined about those issues with the current Frontier base model. You think 38 grand is overpriced? Easy, buy a used truck. Done.

Far from a base truck. How about vinyl floors, manual windows, steel wheels. Get rid of things like lane departure warning. At most this truck should have the backup camera All these other secondary safety features being made standard are overkill for base work truck. The safety features like lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring and such should be an add on option package.
@drecksaukerl
@drecksaukerl Күн бұрын
Honestly, I don't think it would sell. Back in the day, basic trucks were sold mainly to farmers and contractors. Even those groups want more features nowadays. Case in point; a contractor I know will never buy a truck with a manual because he figures that most employees wouldn't be able to drive it without blowing out the clutch. No AC? No sale! Laptops commonly used nowadays will fail in hot weather. I agree that there has been too much "feature creep" in today's vehicles, but the days of the spartan truck are over.

Only reason it's like that is to get a slightly better EPA rating, and to save money on engineering an electric-hdro unit everyone else is using. It's a primative, unrefined, heavy Truck- See where i owned one for a year. It has Steel Steering knuckles and control arms. Those suckers are massive, and heavy! everyone else went to aluminum alloy a long time ago. Button placement is a simple almost random checker board with ton of blanks. Old school gauges, which i like, but, not near as refined as the others. But hey, your rough and ready right? who needs weight reduction and refinment, right?
