Alas, this would be the last time we'd have "YERK!" and "TWAH!" from Kazuya. Speaking of, Kazuya and Devil are kind of nuts in this game, though not good on the same team, ironically enough. Twin Pistons is a mid launcher, like it always is, but is 10 frames and completely safe in this game for some bizarre reason. I hope the schoolyard and snow stage tracks make it into Smash. It's funny to me how Unknown being Jun was a fan theory for years then Bamco just said, "Why not?", and made it "canon" in Tag 2.

Jin was actually not the only one with the EWGFs in Tag 1. Heihachi also had those, although his electricity worked slightly different. Instead of sparking just before impact, like in the EWGFs everybody knows, Heihachi's EWGF has the second spark appear while the hit connects. Heihachi also got the just frame version of his Thunder God Fist in Tag 1 (f,N,d,D/F+1), which upon impact causes a lot of electricity sparks to appear.

Fun Fact: That red blinking life meter of your partner if the one you're using has dealt a huge amount of damage is, believe it or not, was the Rage Meter. And it can also add more damage once you tagged in your partner but it has a limit. This is the first game that has that mechanic, then returned 3 games later in Tekken 6 which is now a part of the staple today.

Awwwwwww yeah, Tag 1, my very first Tekken game, courtesy of my cousins. We played so much back then, even down to actually having a PS2 Multi-tap. Kazuya actually was one of my go-to’s, even though I freaking sucked at the game. The soundtrack is extremely nostalgic for me, and makes me hopeful some of them will get into Smash.

Would've made more sense for Devil to be his tag partner, since Kazuya actually transforms and vice versa, but Jin works too. Edit: Oh, he did switch later on. It's neat how later in the series Devil is no longer a separate character slot, he's built into Kazuya's moveset.

Tekken 2 included Kazuya and Devil as separate characters because of the symbolic ending for the Kazuya path. Perhaps, maybe even due to hardware limitations.

Devil Jin is still a different character slot because Jin can't control the Devil Gene but Kazuya can, right? I think that's the lore reason.

@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN Well not only that. Because I went through a Tekken phase and played a lot of the older games, I clearly noticed how Devil Jin was also symbolic in how his moveset defined him. Jin in Tekken 3 and Tag was essentially Kazuya again, but with some added flair unique to Jin so he wasn't entirely a clone. Then in 4, Jin tried to stray away and distance himself of his connection to the Mishima's by changing his style to a more controlled and even defensive moveset. But when Devil Jin is introduced in 5, he regains most of his original moveset with some unique attacks that separate the fact that he is both Jin, and the past of the Devil Gene within the Mishima bloodline that has possessed him. The most convincing evidence is that Devil Jin can do Kazuya's 10 hit combos, while normal Jin could only do it in 3 and Tag, but not 4 and onwards. It's those little things that say a lot, and when they're in games that have a long history between entries, it's a whole other level of attention to detail.
