My son was born at 32 weeks and spent 3 weeks in the NICU. he’s our first and it was a crazy, stressful sad experience.. but I’m so grateful he was okay, and NICU nurses are literal angels.

NICU is soooo different where I live in Canada it’s one room where all the babies share, each baby has a station with their bed, monitor and chair for a parent. Then the nurses have a desk and computer in the middle of the room along with a sink!

It’s so awesome that you have your own room in the nicu! My nicu had all the babies in rooms based on like age, size, acuity, I think. So like my babies were in one room with like 10 other babies that were similar care levels. And they had like 5 or 6 recliners.

I think it’s a good idea to have a nickname for videos that you don’t actually use with your child for safety. A random dad called out a nickname (same as my kid) and it freaked my kid out that he thought this guy knew his name.

So as a first time mom, I was a nicu mom and since you are pumping so much because baby isn’t eating a lot, it causes over production, which can be hard to handle for its own reasons. But I was told that I should have stopped pumping when we left the nicu since she was nursing. Just a heads up if you do both it might get un comfy really quick…

This nicu is SO nice! The bathroom would have been so nice to have. I was walking out of the NICU every time I had to change my pad then getting buzzed back in the whole time my baby was there😂

I had my baby last Saturday at 40 weeks and 2 days, and went through a lot this time. I almost passed away twice and had to stay in the hospital for 9 days, I was bleeding internally now I have a hematoma in my stomach with a liter of blood and had to have 3 blood transfusions while staying in the icu. Thank goodness baby is very healthy and doing great, but it was so scary! Glad you and baby are doing well ❤ Congratulations again! ♥️

I don’t think you need to share her name. Definitely creepy how entitled people are to know the name of a baby they don’t know. I don’t even put my daughter name on social media and I’m not an influencer. The internet has just changed so much over time and is definitely scarier than it used to be.

Being able to watch your baby on a camera is very cool. I was in the NICU as a baby about 24 years ago and my mom/family would have loved to have a camera to see me. They were there in person most of the time but if they needed to go home and shower or anything else they could have and checked in on me while they were away.

Your NICU room is huge! Here in Australia NICU is a shared room, but PICU is individual rooms. But even then, they don't have parent beds. Sometimes they can bring in a chair that folds out to a bed, but majority of the time a parent can't stay in NICU or PICU. All the best for your journey ahead with a premmie

My recent nicu experience with one of my twins definitely did not seem like yours. Mine honestly did the bare minimum, and we were rarely kept in the loop. It was very disappointing, because I felt like everyone always sings the praises of nicu. 😢 and clear communication was definitely extra needed, since we had his twin to take care of, and we couldn’t bring him with us. It was a lot of juggling, and they definitely did not make any of that easier for us. And then you see the astronomical bill.

Your NICU is nice. Mine had curtains that separated each babies bed/area but it was all in one large room. That was good and bad in ways. Both of my children were born around 34 weeks and each needed a 6ish week NICU stay

So happy for you! Glad you both are healthy! You had a whole room to yourself for nicu care? We had to be in a tiny space that barely fit me and my husband surrounded by like 8 other babies. No privacy for parents to enjoy their baby. I also had to sit in a uncomfy recliner since I was recovering from a c-section and I constantly felt like I was in everyone’s way.
