I’m fascinated by the dresses of days gone by and how they are put on. Especially all of the under things those lady wore too without air conditioning in the summer, not sure how they survived. Thank you for sharing!!!

1.They wore natural fibers, not plastic (polyester). Wool, linen, cotton, and silk breathe much more easily. 2.covering up in light linens and cotton keeps the sun off your skin and thus keeps you cooler. Notice how Bedouins and other desert cultures wear long sleeved flowy garments made of light fabrics? That. 3. Temperatures, while not greatly reduced, WERE cooler. In short, if you wore light cotton tuoille, a sun bonnet and carried a parasol, you'd likely feel COOLER in all those layers than you would today in polyester athleisure.

That's supposed to be the "natural form" era. Bustles weren't in style. But they still padded the rear.
@Olga_Ovechkina
@Olga_Ovechkina 3 жыл бұрын
@@gdubbs680 "Natural form" era was from 1877-78 to 1882-83. Without bustles indeed, but with bustle pads. 1870-77 - the shape which you can see here, the 1st bustle period. From 1883 to 1889(circa) - the 2nd bustle period, "centaur" shape.

This made me love the 1870s fashion again, I always thought that they kinda had higher waist dresses then which kinda turned me off of them, but this is stunning
@mastersnet18

Uniquely-mediocre in the early 1870s the waistline was higher. It got lower throughout the decade.
@uniquely.mediocre1865
@uniquely.mediocre1865 4 жыл бұрын
@@mastersnet18 so like right before the natural form era, how high were the waists cuz I'm confused. You see 2 styles of the first bustle era, one at the higher waist and one at the natural waist. I'm more knowledgeable in 1660s, 1840s and 1890s than anything
@mastersnet18
@mastersnet18 4 жыл бұрын
Uniquely-mediocre I would say the waistlines were at their highest in the late 1860s and early 1870s. They got lower and lower as the 1870s progressed. That’s probably why you see the two different waistlines. If you look at the link here it shows how the waistline slowly got lower each year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lafHeoOnqLmpj7M.

@@mastersnet18 ok thanks, that definitely helped a lot. I don't particularly like the high waisted skirts of some fashion eras except for maybe the 1820s I kinda like. It's nice to find out the from roughly 1873 to 1876 is a nice era because its first bustle era but it's also more of a slope than a shelf and it's at the natural waist line.
@mastersnet18
@mastersnet18 4 жыл бұрын
Uniquely-mediocre Yea I like pretty much every era in fashion history. It’s so hard to pick one! I do agree though the first bustle era looks very nice with the more sloping bustle. I’m impressed with the ones you listed as your favorites. Those seem to be some of the most overlooked fashion history eras. The 1660s are very elegant looking, as are the 1840s and 1890s. I have a lot of fashion history playlists on my channel if you want to check them out. I’m quite obsessed with fashion history.
