Where I live they even glue pocket mirrors on the side of the window sill, so they only have to watch at one direction but can see both ways.

We have those security cameras in Spain, too. Once someone asked me if I had an alarm in my home, since I traveled so much for work. "No need, I live in the same building as Loreto." "Oh, ok then! I swear the cops should pay her a salary."

I grew up in the post communist Romania. When I was younger I used to go out rollerskating in the localpark in the evenings during summer (during the day it was too hot) and I usually ended up coming home around 1,2 in the night. I have never had to fear for my safety.

US residential areas that look like poor and low income are usually unsafe but not here in europe most of the time that is. Because all income are mixed here unless you can afford a vila than ye no point arguing that one. But someone making 100k and someone making 50k live in the same beighbourhood
