@2:00 You know exactly why the changed it to press A instead of Down for entering pipes: It wasn't too many videos ago in the Pit where you were trying to walk off the closer-to-camera edge of the pipe and wound up entering instead, and skipped collecting something important that you were trying to grab!

It is something to keep in mind that being more friendly for a player isn't necessarily hand holding. Having Punio show up earlier and not having to potentially waste time not knowing where to go for new people is helpful and it also implies Punio reaching out even further because he's so desperate to help his people! It's a nice little change when this game can have a lot of treading the same ground.

i agree, i think small stuff like that removes the tedium of searching somewhat aimlessly because you don't know where to go. it's not as in-your-face as it could be, so i wouldn't even consider it handholding, just giving you a bit more of a lead than in the original.

As someone who has never played the original game, I got very confused when I was told the pipe to Boggly Woods was under the town, and then got the email about the contact being in the shop. It lead me to believe that the pipe was under the now opened west side of town, so I spent a lot of time trying to find it there. It would have taken me longer if Punio didn't show up

I wouldn't even call it hand holding. Because ein most games, even games at the time, that had a big world had something much worse. A massive arrow or path that made it glaringly obvious this was the way to go. Having cute hints and characters that give a Suttle push is just good game play.

i genuinely got emotional when i saw how gorgeous boggly woods is. they made a place i already thought was beautiful so much more gorgeous than i could have ever imagined. nintendo did such a stellar job with this remake ❤ edit: also, from what ive personally noticed, with power bounce you have to tap the button AFTER you see the A button indicator being pressed. you cant time it *with* the indicator press, it has to be after. it took me a while to get used to it, and im still struggling lol

Since it was missed because the Yux can't aim, if you get hit with a projectile in the overworld, you just take damage. No more dragging you into a battle where you get first struck.

Power bounce is DEFINITELY different and I THINK I have an inclination as to how...I went to the Battle Master toad and spent like, 10+ minutes just training Power bounce and it SEEMS like for anything above "Great" the timing is MUCH more sensitive. Almost like they dial in the frame window as a way to nerf it slightly. I have no way of verifying that for certain but, that's what it feels like to me. Glad I'm not the only one having issues with it though and even seasoned professionals are having a time as well lol. Great vid as always B)

During my own playthrough I've just been having this feeling that bosses in particular have become much more resistant to power bounces. My only evidence for that is I've slowly been getting used to the timing and normal enemies haven't been so bad but I just keep struggling to get more than three or four bounces on bosses.

And even in the OG game I found it tough to time my jumps on large enemies because of their heights. Totally not trying to imply "skill issue" or anything though lol. What I did as a kid to remember "sun moon punnie star" was : we get the sun & moon stones in chapter 1's fortress, then we encounter punnies in chapter 2, then get the 2nd star gem at the end of it. It felt like a logical sequence in my tiny brain.

the most interesting change about ch 2 is that in the original, if you let the bomb go off right as Lord Crump's about to turn the timer off it just pauses right there as the bomb goes off, makin it funny. but in the remake, Lord Crump very pleasantly, surprisingly actually gets an animation of flailing his arms around if you let the bomb go off while he's talking to Mario+partner, this's a very neat and unexpected change 🤲 another unexpected change is if you reload the save right before the ch 2 boss(ie in the room at the start of the great tree), you very strangely get a free super mushroom and fireflower. they just spawn there by the bushes, I don't know why that is but I deff know that deff wasn't in the original, but at least its free items 🤔

The extra items might be designed to spawn for anyone who loses the battle, as that same save point would be where you would restart if you saved and lost the battle! The way the game loads it may not distinguish a game over vs a manual reset so it's the same end result.

Part of me thinks the hand-holding going on is because this game isn't just for fans of the OG TYD, but also for new fans, especially kids, who experience the game for the first time. But a counter-argument is that any kid old enough to read and play this game wouldn't need all this hand-holding. Either way, as a person who only knows the basics of the story from watching TYD challenge videos (mostly Bringle's), this is a good first impression of the game's story for me, so I think it's doing great so far! :D

He means animation/vibration wise, also known as indicators. If you play monster hunter, a good part of the gameplay loop is getting FEEDBACK from a monster. Are you using a weapon effective against flesh/armored parts? Is the monster flinching or ignoring it? Did the weapon bounce off? Going back to TTYD:RE, Im at ch.5 and i agree the feedback/sense of jump is very off with power bounce and multibounce. There's a bite thats missing and i cant quite put my finger on it. Playing the original and getting both moves perfectly timed [before getting capped/dmg limit] reinforces it.

Also, sirens are generally applied to female-presenting entities. The fact that they are just called the Shadows really makes it clear Beldam is willing to avoid any femme word to describe the Shadows because that implies recognizing Vivian as a trans female.

As a trans person who grew up in the 90s and 00s, it does not feel real to see Vivian's story being uncensored and actually told to a Western audience in the way the creators intended. I can't quite put to words how meaningful this is to me, to be honest. I mean, we have an explicitly trans character, referred to in such a way that it's completely unambiguous, in a Nintendo game? In a MARIO game?! And not only that, but in my FAVORITE Mario game?! When I saw some of the screencaps from Chapter 4, I genuinely got choked up because it's just... I don't know. You don't see people like me represented very often, and not often in a positive light, where they're one of the main characters. This is such a minor thing to most people and it's honestly not a huge part of the game at all, but it's there and it means a lot to me because it's there.

My guess about the change from Shroom to Mushroom is most likely just that they have more space to write item/badge/key item names now since the item character limit is not as much of a thing anymore in more modern games. If you think about it, "Nostalgic Tunes" is a pretty long name, for example, compared to the names the other badges had in the original. Still remember how silly to read "S. Jump Chg" was in PM64.

Power bounce and multibonk are indeed much harder. You can rack up more than 4 once you get the timing however. I’ve found the timing much quicker in the new game. Using the Battle Toad to practice helps a lot!

So i didnt understand the viviam drama. Looked it up. The english translation back in the day removed any mention that vivian was anything but a woman. Im watching the remake as this guy plays it, and according to the articles online, all they did was add back the original dialog to bring that aspect back. Bellum is a JERK. A VILLIAN. They dont want to be called "shadow sisters" or "hammer bros" or "cool best bud siblings" they want a cool edgy name. The relations redacted was only in refrence to the team name. If it was a transphobic comment it would be "ID NEVER CALL YOU MY SISTER" or deadname. Or anything else that specifically refrenced it. They just dont want to be called siblings in the team name.

I saw on Twitter from a speedrunner that apparently, the 4th bounce from Power Bounce specifically is 1 frame before returning to a more natural progression. And Simplifier doesn't even affect it. They really wanted to try and keep it from being the dominant strategy as much.

It's fascinating (aka frustrating as hell) how it seems folks are only mad Vivian is trans now. Like it wasn't exactly secret. I feel like one of the biggest things I've known about her for the past 20 years is that she was trans in the original but that got taken out in the English translation. And I literally never saw anyone complaining about that until the remake came out. Hell, I remember seeing one person bring up Vivian as an example of a good trans character when complaining about Bridget from Guilty Gear, only for the same person to now say Vivian was never trans.

I bet it was "ultra shroom" etc. in the original because the engine had limits on how long names could be (due to limited storage, plus Japanese words tend to have less characters and original devs would've only cared about Japanese), same reason "spiky" in enemy names would become just "s." sometimes On a newer system they can make the strings longer and give stuff full names

Again the changes seem to primarily be more accurate to the Japanese. In Japanese, their name translates to the "Shadow Trio,." No mention of Sirens. And, of course, the stuff about Vivian liking to be called "sister" is also from the Japanese. And Vivian, of course, has always been trans in the Japanese version. The censorship was in the *original* English translation, not the new one.

Vivian is a person with a feminine name who dresses as female, refers to herself using female pronoun who wants to be a "sister" and who gets upset every time Beldam refers to her as male--and particularly hates being called "little brother." She clearly wants to be thought of as female, despite having been born male. So that makes her transgender. ------ Besides, I was talking about the lines we've seen so far. And all of them are in the original Japanese version. I am now aware there is something later in Chapter 4 which apparently comes from the Italian version--where she flat out says she used to be a boy but now wants to be referred to as a girl.

I’m newer to the channel, and the remake has been my first time playing the game (I’m in chapter 6). All of his “complaints” or just saying that he prefers the original kinda feel like him just saying “I think the old one that’s worse/I’m more familiar with is better,” with reasoning I just don’t get. Making trans characters is perfectly fine and really neat to see more diverse characters we can get in today's time! I will be honest regarding the change with dialogue surrounding Vivian, in the original it was never really made clear if she was full on trans, just a crossdresser, or an "otokonoko" (Japanese culture thing look it up for full explanation), so them making it definitive and less vague I feel does make the writing around her character feel a *bit* dumbed down, tho I do really like how they made Beldam basically recoil at the idea of publicly acknowledging Vivian as her "sister". Overall, I appreciate them just trying to stick close to the OG Japanese script, cuz they could've handled it a lot worse. PS there's a cute thing where if you Tattle Vivian, Goombella is like "I guess she's really cute... cuter than me even, I guess..." PPS, they don't cut Mario getting smooched cuz he is just TOO MUCH of a hunk. They can't NOT depict all the ladies wanting him.

It's so much more wholesome seeing someone who knows the game inside and out playing it than some KZbinr with a large audience who is playing it just to play it and get views. I first played it when I was 6 in 2004 and have finished it in its entirety about half a dozen times. The game gets better as you get older. I cannot remember where I heard it, I swear I heard/read it somewhere, that power-bouce, starts off forgiving but then becomes almost frame perfect after 3 or 4 bounces. But with it being limited to 30fps, whatever the cap is, you'd think it'd possibly be easier to not mess up. But something along the lines of, it has like a 2x 6 frame window, a 5 or 4 frame, then 2. Or something like that. Repeatedly. I swore I heard that somewhere.. Unless I'm just making stuff up. I FEEL like I saw that somewhere..

even though it's been made easier I have still seen people struggling with this game, one person not knowing where to go to start chapter 2 even seeing the puni wondering around for nearly an hour before caving in and reading chat and another one I yesterday in creepy steeple spent over an hour trying to find 'the third switch' to move the staircase before leaving thinking they shouldn't be there. got me thinking maybe its not easy enough or everyones lost some brain cells..

Glad it’s not just me struggling with power bounces. It feels like the game made the timing harder the more bounces you do. A clever way of nerfing that badge if they actually made it harder to use. I had to practice with the battle toad and I still suck at it.
