The 'better' comes from uniform heating. Usually, you microwave something liquid, and its hot as hell water wrapped around a ball of lukewarm water. Which proceeds to even out, making it too cold. You could rectify that with a few stirs as you warm it up, but no one is gonna stop the microwave 3 times to stir for some water, so..... you get the 'kettle is better' myth. Which, because of sheer human laziness, is actually kinda true.

The reason why alot of Americans don't have kettles is because America has more coffee drinkers than tea drinkers, but also, our kitchens are already filled with so many other appliances (blenders, coffee makers, toasters, toaster-ovens, stand mixers, plus specialty items one might want like juicers, ice-cream makers, etc.) that its just easier to save space by utilizing all of the microwaves abilities, which includes heating water in mug in about 1-2 minutes

The reason the vast, VAST Majority of Americans don't have kettles is nkt because of price, but because there is just not that big of a Hot Tea culture here. Our go to hot beverage is Coffee. And obviously for that we have coffee makers, which strain machine heated water through the coffee grinds and into a curaf or pitcher. If people want hot tea, then yes, you'd either boil the water on a stove in a pot that takes a while, or nuke some in the microwave for a few minutss. I don't see what the difference between boiling water in a microwave vs in a kettle would be. Boiling water is boiling water, is it not?

Two of the biggest differences in American vs. British English Americans usually say our t's and r's. What do you use your microwave for? It's perfect for heating up water. And it takes less time than putting it on the stove. Fill up your mug with water, stick it in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds or until it's boiling, take it out and put your tea bag in. The whole purpose of a microwave was to be able to cook things more efficiently use a little less electricity and cook them faster than the old-fashioned way. There are still certain things that I think have to be cooked in the oven but scrambled eggs bacon and lots of other things are quicker and tastes just as good in the microwave, just don't overcook. . For iced tea I have a special tea maker, very much like an electric coffee pot. It brews the tea by heating water and then dripping it over the tea bags and then that drips down into a pitcher. About three cups of brewed hot tea goes down into the bottom of the pitcher . At that point you add sugar if you want it sweet. II drink mine with artificial sweeteners so I don't put sugar in it. You just add ice and water to fill up your gallon. Put it in the refrigerator so it stays nice and cold. I live in the south we like lots of cold drinks in the summer.

We have kettles here in the US. We use them for making hot tea and hot chocolate in the winter sometimes. We used to use kettles all the time until the microwave was invented and so it’s just easier and faster to heat it up in the microwave.

We say twos-day, at least in the northeast. I think most people, again, in the northeast, eat biscuits with butter, not sausage gravy. That is a southern thing. As for kettles, I don't have one. On the rare instance I drink tea, I heat the water in a mug in the microwave.

I'm from the south and live here now but I have lived in New York state as well. Not everybody likes gravy on their biscuits in the south. I prefer southern-style gravy for biscuits if I'm going to eat it on the biscuit but mostly I prefer either butter and honey or butter and jelly. That is not an unusual thing in the south. In Tennessee where I grew up and in Georgia where I lived for a while we say tyous day. The south is very much like the Northeast where accents & words vary from state-to-state and even within a state. The people who live in East Tennessee and Appalachian mountain regions sound completely different from Middle Tennessee who sound completely different from west Tennessee over by the Mississippi rivern near Memphis

To be honest, what the the UK calls gravy...your "Brown Sauce" isn't actually gravy either. It's a Worcestershire-based condiment, correct? It's essentially like our A-1 Steak sauce, made by Kraft, which ironically started in the UK in 1831. Gravy, however, is made from the Stock or Roux of whatever meat you're cooking with and flour and milk. Flour is what makes the actual gravy. For instance to make white sausage gravy for biscuits, all you do is cook up your crumbled up sausage, add a particular amount of flour, to get the process started, and then you gradually add milk until you get the consistency you want. Salt and pepper it to taste.

Most Brits i know can't say "TH" sounds. It comes out as F's. It's a fairly easy sound to make. You put your tongue at the back of your top front teeth and blow air through your mouth. There's literally no other sound that can come from that.

Interesting thing about microwaves and heating water.....have heard that the water gets hotter in a microwave and so makes a better cup of tea. Another reason to prefer the microwave to the electric kettle in America has to do with standard household voltage.... Where as it is 240 in England and 120 in America.... the English electric kettle can boil water in almost no time at all.... but in America, at the lower voltage, it takes a good bit longer.
