An increasing number of places in the US require a valid ID to be scanned into the computer in order to continue checking out. So if you're buying beer at the grocery store and your alcohol gets scanned, the computer locks up and everything stops until you can hand over your ID and either get your birthdate entered by the cashier or the bar code scanned to automatically enter it. Then everything picks back up again. This also happens with certain medications and some specialized glues or chemicals that they don't think kids should be buying freely. I think there's an element of the alcohol regulation that's connected to how many people rely on driving cars everywhere here... because there's robust public transportation in Europe, underage drinking doesn't often end up with someone dying, and by the time someone is likely to have a car they're also likely to have gotten wiser about alcohol consumption there. In contrast, it's super easy here in the States to drink and drive, so it's become necessary to regulate more closely for everyone's safety. But that's just my theory....

Culturally, I'm a 49ers fan, since that's the San Francisco team of USA Football....but I don't pay attention to it lol. The only college one I really care about is the Army-Navy game, because I was in the Navy. That's when the US Military Academy at West Point plays a (USA) football game against the US Naval Academy, to determine which branch is better. I was Navy, so of course I think Navy is best. 🙂Academies are for officers, though, and I was enlisted. But all the officers I served with who went to the Naval Academy were pretty cool, so I definitely root for the Naval Academy. 🙂 (the service academies are free, you just have to be smart enough to get in, and of course, you have to want to be an officer in the military; when you graduate, you're a military officer. 🙂) Locally, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, the big rivalry in college sports is Stanford and UC Berkeley. They are both among the top ten greatest universities in the world, by academic reputation! Currently Stanford is number 2 in the world behind Oxford! and UC Berkeley is number 9 in the world. You best believe those stadiums fill up 🙂

Alcohol depends upon the venue. If the venue has a liquor license, then you can walk throughout the venue with alcohol, or certain types of alcohol. When the venue doesn’t have a liquor license, you are restricted to “liquor/beer gardens”, which are the closed off areas where the liquor/beer is sold. Most state have 2 types of licenses, 1) Liquor, where all types of liquor can be sold, or 2) Beer/wine, where only beer and wine can be sold.

The thing to keep in mind is that USA is a FEDERATED SYSTEM collecting laws of 50+ entities (Don't forget self-governing US Territories) that set most laws locally. When one entity over-reacts, often there is push back, and things eventually swing back the other way. Back in the 70s there was a VERY SUCCESSFUL (EVENTUALLY) strong national push LED BY MOTHERS after some gruesome highway deaths to make drinking laws stricter. MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) succeeded over a ten plus year period in getting a lot of states to adopt strict, and often fairly draconian measures to prevent teen drinking [AND DEATHS! Nach] Similarly, the group GASP made smoking all but impossible in most work situations, creating for some of us, a hostile work environment. Of course, those assholes thought my fumes made their workplace a hostile work environment. And so America Rolls.

In the USA when you get ID for Alcohol it is not just about the age. There are 3 things they are checking for. First are you 21 or older. Second thing is your ID valid and not expired. Third thing is your ID has to be on you, on your body. So even if you are old enough and have your ID one you, if it is expired you can NOT be served alcohol. It is illegal if ANY of those 3 things are missing. When I worked as a cashier in a Shell station, the Sheriff had teens about 15-16 yrs old come in under cover and try to buy alcohol. If you sold it to them it was a $25000 fine for the store, a $25000 fine for the cashier. You had to ID to be safe.

The only problem with these types of videos is that there's really no 'typical' America. Sure, you'll get ID'd virtually everywhere and such, but for the most part, each state, especially each region, has different norms and laws. For example, I live in Ohio, and my city, Columbus, allows you to carry beers on the streets in most busy areas. It is also legal for women to walk topless. There’s actually an annual Nude Bike Ride event this weekend, which might be unheard of in most parts of the country. Something that might not be popular here could be off-the-charts popular in other areas, and vice versa. The point is, don't think that some of the things you see in these videos happen in all parts of the country-they can be as shocking to us as well.

Usually at those kind of event's there is a beer garden with some sort of table & chairs set up inside a fenced in area. You're not allowed to leave that area with your beer for fear of children getting a hold of & drinking someone's beer! Yes, there are big trunking companies that move houses. They lift them off their foundation & put them on huge steel beems, then load them on to a tractor trailor. They even place it carefully on to it's new foundation.

It depends entirely on the type of liquor license in place. And whose liquor license it is. If a restaurant or bar is just renting a booth at the venue, where you can drink is usually limited. If the arena has the liquor license, you can usually carry your drinks around and even drink in the viewing seats.

I've been to that rodeo many times. It's in a very small town with low police presence that's why I'm pretty sure they don't let them walk around with beer. To keep the event less rowdy. There is another rodeo a few towns away that allows anyone with a wristband to walk around through the whole event with beer or liquor. But there's also cops walking around that event everywhere making sure everyone's being chill.

Regarding vehicle damage, some states require you to have your car inspected annually, but it's mainly for things like emissions, taillights, headlamps, turn signal lights, etc. However, each state has its own list of things that it looks for. It's cold because new clients coming in want to feel that cool air right away and cool down fast. Unfortunately the longer someone stays inside they will get cold possibly. So it's a choice the business makes whether to set it for long staying customers or newly arriving customers. Usually what decides it will be how long does the average customer stay. If most come and go rather quickly then they will go with colder for the majority who it won't bother but will reward immediately upon entering. Also if there is a patio and or doors to the outside are opening often then they have to guard against the loss of cold air and so will have the AC cranking.

My dad's family was just like that, but we've lost dad and all his siblings and their spouses so I'm now one of the older generation. When I was younger, it wasn't unusual to have family get-togethers of 50 or more people for most major holidays since most of us lived in the immediate area.

16:24 We used to go down the valley and spend time with 2nd , 3rd and whatever cousins. Someone had 5 boys and at least 4 of the boys had 3 to 6 kids. However very few of their kids had more than one or two. My uncle had 4 kids, 5 grandkids, 2 great grandkids.

Come to Michigan, bro! The Great Lakes state has so much to offer. Detroit is enjoying a second renaissance and all the wonderful, wide open spaces, the Mighty Mac bridge heading to the Upper Penninsula, and just gorgeousness everywhere!

The reason why company make their building more cooler than usual. Is to account for maximum occupancy. As we should know, our bodies put off heat. And the more bodies that are in a room/building. The hotter that building will get that much faster. Thus making them have to constantly adjust the A/C. And cold temperatures also fight off common sicknesses & illnesses. A reason why ALL American hospitals & clinics of any kind. Keep their buildings cold. ALL YEAR AROUND.

My parents have 47 grandchildren so until they died around thirty years ago our family gatherings were huge. Families grew and moved away so we only have about two large family gatherings a year now. We had one last week and there were around 80 people. Obviously a lot couldn’t come but we always have between 75 and 100 still.

Lewis, in the last part of the video where you were so envious of where the family was living, I couldn’t help but laugh a little. The visual clues in the video showed that they were in Minnesota. It is known as “The Land of 10,000 Lakes; so there are many lakeside houses. The rodeo was in St. Paul, the state capital. Maybe you’d like to be there on the 4th of July, but I doubt you’d want to be there on the 4th of January. Refer back to some of “Lost in the Pond’s” winter videos. Minnesotans really treasure their summers because they’re so short.

I think they are in Oregon because you just don’t drive down to Corvallis, Oregon from Minnesota

Its Lake Oswego right outside of Portland Oregon and the St. Paul rodeo is in a small farming town in the Willamette valley also in Oregon.

It’s not Minnesota, at all. It’s the Portland suburbs (Lake Oswego, a very pricey suburb) and 2 towns in the Willamette Valley - St Paul, which has an annual July 4th rodeo, and Corvallis, home of Oregon State University. Didn’t you notice the difference in trees with all of those Douglas firs?

2:18. It is trying to compensate for the opening of the doors. If there aren't enough customers entering and exiting, it gets overly cool.

We spent every weekend on our boat at the lake. I would fly home every weekend to meet my family at the lake and fly out Sunday or Monday to go back to work! So many amazing memories!

My grandmother was one of six siblings. So between the two sides of the family everyone considered my grandmother's house to be "home" for holiday gatherings. We'd have fifty swing by on Christmas lunch time to visit and meet up and another fifty in the afternoon later on. Our actual Christmas was early in the morning and only consisted of about a dozen people, but our CLOSE extended family ran up to a hundred plus. We'd have folding tables EVERYWHERE.

We have all sizes and prices of houses here, from $50,000 to $50 million, we have them all. My Father only paid $10,000 for his first house in 1950, and it was brand new, that house is still there and now it sells for about $80,000. It's a 3 bedroom one level one bath ranch style house, with an enclosed back porch and a garage. And yes, people can drive damaged cars on the road, as long as the headlights and all the taillights are still working, it is no big deal, I see damaged cars on the road almost every day. Sometimes they get the insurance money and keep it, and they do not get the car rapaired.

My mom was born in a large family, so we always had BIG Thanksgiving celebrations and camped together at least once a year. One time our head count for Thanksgiving was over 40 almost 50 people. Christmas we can have large gather but it varies that year, the family is spread out so not everyone is available.

Remember every venue or every state won't have the same rules. Liquor is carefully regulated so you can't just go anywhere on the grounds if the property doesn't have the proper licensing. They can't control if kids are drinking, if you are moving around in the crowd. Places that allow it, have special licenses & insurance. ~ In the US a car can be rusty & banged up, as long as thing work properly. The lights & signals etc. ~ The boat & cool house is owned by folks with money & it is on an inland lake. We have over 11,000 of them in Michigan & we get all 4 seasons. So lucky. I can't afford to live on one, but I can visit them any time I want to. You would love it. We have waterfalls & forests & any sport you can imagine. Boating, jet skiing, swimming, water skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking, snow skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, trail riding on bicycles or trail bikes etc.

My opinion is that stores are kept at a cooler temperature because the doors are opening so often the temperature inside continues to be raised each time the doors or drive up windows are opening. When my mother was growing up in the late 1920s and 1930s, the family had Sunday dinner together each week. That was my grandparents, my mom, my uncle, 4 of my grandfathers brothers and their families because they all live near each other. I grew up a minimum of 100 miles from aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. By the time I was 9, the closest relatives were 100 miles away and all others were at least 200 miles away. We did visit the relatives 100 miles away often.

Where my ancestors lived in the late 1800s, they decided they wanted the courthouse somewhere else (closer to the railroad), so they moved it. [They put it on large logs/trees and rolled it where they wanted to go.]
