I’m from New York & I don’t take offense, I love watching our ball drop… but a possum??? That’s gotta be the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard, that craziest & weirdest thing was that it started in 2000… I guess it’d be less weird if it was a traditional thing started in the 1800’s or early 1900’s but who the hell in 2000 thought something like that would be the best way to bring in the new year… smh, I don’t even know what to say… 🤦🏻♀️

@@lorrahowell3567 You aren't being completely open about this. The Opossum was inside an acrylic box and it was lowered via a cord. This only lasted a few years in North Carolina but was later picked up by a city in Georgia where they used a live possum until PETA brought a law suite against them then they used roadkill. Along with live, roadkill, ceramic and stuffed opossums this even is popular with citizens but not with PETA. 1 live Opossum was hurt and had to have it's leg amputated. No live ones were used since. It's been held in different cities. None of the opossums were dropped, they were lowered.

The castle in Phoenix is called Mystery Castle and the guy who built it was actually named Boyce Luther Gulley and is an 18 room 3 story castle. It features a chapel, cantina and a dungeon. His daughter died in 2010 and the property is now maintained by the Mystery Castle Foundation which is a non profit organization. It unfortunately was extensively vandalized on March 6, 2022, and the Mystery Castle suffered an estimated $100,000 in damage. I literally just read something yesterday about the tomb that Nicholas Cage built!
@Stephanie-ik1vq2 ай бұрын
My Mom was good friends with his daughter Mary Lou Gulley and her mother, and she even worked for Mary Lou during the 1970's as a tour guide for the castle. I would go with her on the weekends and follow the tours around to make sure that no one took anything. It's not true that no one knows why he left his wife & daughter. Mary Lou told us that it was because he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and didn't want to be a burden to them. In those days when you were diagnosed with TB you were told to go to a dry climate, so he left Seattle for Arizona. It breaks my heart to hear that the castle was vandalized. I hope that they were able to restore it. EDIT: I just read that they want to demolish the castle! That really breaks my heart! I hope that it is saved!!!!

I have so many great memories there like making pies with Mary Lou in the kitchen. This one will hit me hard personally.

A moonbow is like a rainbow, light being refracted through water droplets, only it's moonlight that's being reflected. This is obviously very rare, since moonlight isn't usually strong enough to penetrate a rainstorm. So at Cumberland Falls, the fine mist thrown up from the falls serves as the prism, refracting the moonlight and creating a moonbow.
