I've been eating American food for 75 yrs. I've never been overweight, don't have diabetes or high blood pressure or cancer. I did quit drinking soft drinks over 20 yrs. ago and I don't eat candy except for dark chocolate. About every 10 yrs. the experts say a particular food is bad and then completely reverse the advice. I no longer pay attention. I think moderation is the answer and exercise is more important than food.

While there are some things in our food that are not good, like high fructose corn syrup. We do have a law here that requires every single ingredient to be labeled. This is not true in most other countries, which is why our ingredients are so long, while other countries only have to label primary ingredients. Just an FYI, if the flour has multiple grains they can't just say flour they have to list each one. Salmanila outbreaks are unfortunately not uncommon in the US. Then the coke, when it was made with sugar it was better but with high fructose corn syrup as the sweetener it is 100X worse not just for taste but your health as well. If you ever get a chance to drink a coke made with real sugar take it, the difference is amazing. I grew up on the sugar version, much more flavor... less like syrup. Great video!

No joke! Amazing what else you can argue being unfit for consumption and/or dangerous. Not sure if it's true or urban legend but some kids science project argued how dihydrous oxide was deadly and dangerous, therefore should be either regulated or banned. Dihydrous Oxide is a mangling of chemical naming for dihydrogen oxide, AKA H2O, AKA Water

If you read all of the ingredients in Kelloggs cereals at least in the U.S. maybe not other countries. You can find small traces of things like arsic and different concrete types of compounds. Like I said, do your own research on the ingredients lists. Also in regards to grated "paremesan cheese" in the green plastic container. I'm not talking about the fresh stuff. In recent years, there has been testing that found that the primary ingredient in it is actually wood shavings, aka sawdust to use as cheap filler. Supposedly, some companies were ordered to change that after it was found out. However, I'm not sure if there was ever any follow-up to make sure they actually changed it like they were supposed to.

Many years ago there was a survey that asked people what color of M&MS was their favorite. The reply was blue. Only b problem was that at that time there were no blue ones. For several years the survey was repeated with the same result. So they added blue to the candy palette. 😄😄😄

A well-documented European product banned in the US Kinder Egg. The white container is considered a "food additive" because it's covered in chocolate. Instead, there's this "kinder surprise" that has the toy in separate container adjacent to the candy.
@TheLordTash
@TheLordTash 10 ай бұрын
It's not an "additive" so much as inedible objects hidden within food is illegal. It's mainly to stop people from putting something in food that someone might accidentally eat without realizing it's in there. The Kinder Eggs are banned out of sheer technicality, since it does TECHNICALLY hide an inedible object within food. Similar products in the US have since figured out that it's extremely easy to make your product legal under that law just by putting a small hole in the chocolate shell where people can see the plastic underneath. But the actual kinder eggs have such a nasty reputation for being choking hazards (mostly rumor) that the US branch isn't willing to even risk trying to release the normal products here.

I tried to find you some Karo syrup and pecans so you could make a pecan pie (you'd have to add eggs), but Karo isn't available. (I think because it's corn syrup, which is highly regulated). Maybe I'll put those in a regular box and send it in the New Year. Pecan pie is yummy all year. There was something else that was a "staple" product in American kitchens, but now I can't remember what it was, and it wasn't available in the UK. By the way, did a 450+ mile drive today. "Over the river and through the woods..." for Christmas is a lot farther away! Can't comment on the exact dye thing, but back in the 1970s, M&Ms were light and dark brown, orange, and yellow. No red, blue, purple. That was because the dyes they wanted to use were banned back then. Pretty sure they found formulation that wasn't toxic, and all the colors showed up. (Just looked it up, FD&C Red #2 was banned for being carcinogenic in the 1970s.) The only time I've had steak tartar was in a restaurant. It's "cooked" with an acid. Still raw, but better. Mixed with other ingredients, it's a nice appetizer. Tuna tartar is also a common seafood restaurant offering (tuna "cooked/acid" with lemon juice) Yes! Coke did have a little of the stuff early on, but it disappeared before the 1930s. I live in the home of Coca-Cola. My uni, Emory, is basically funded by Coke (their founders). If you can find a small can of salted peanuts, get a bottle of Coke, take a swig, then put a few peanuts in the neck of the bottle. Drink/eat away! I honestly don't remember anything about my uni graduation except it was crazy hot outside on the quad, and drinking peanut-neck Coke. A tradition there, maybe at Georgia Tech, too.

What makes any soda, not just coke bad are to things. 1) carbonation stretches your stomach and 2) drinking several a day is the sugar constantly passing through your teeth that causes dental issues. As for the Carmel coloring, I’m not sure what current studies say.
@TheDustyPeaches
@TheDustyPeaches 10 ай бұрын
Most of these studies that ban ingredients are because they are unable to prove that it doesn't cause health issues. Most notably the Skittles dye has no actual evidence that it does cause DNA damage but rather they are unable to prove that it 100% does not cause DNA damage additionally these things about hyperactivity can be explained by the large amount of sugar in the products and in the case of Mountain Dew the large amount of caffeine so much so that Mountain Dew was classified as an energy drink rather than a soft drink however by that logic Coffee should also be more heavily regulated because it causes hyperactivity. The issue with the Bread is very misleading the way they speak about it suggests that the bread utilizes yoga mats in its production however it would be more accurate to say that many yoga mats utilize a food product in production. A more obvious example to understand this misleading statement would be Maple Syrup is made from Maple Tree Sap and has minute amounts of plant based cell structures within it and as a result is "made from trees", Paper is also made from trees utilizing much more wood solids. Making the statement Maple Syrup is made with an ingredient used in toilet paper production not entirely untrue but very disingenuous. Another thing some things used in Europe can easily be said in a way that makes them sound dangerous for example, "Many cakes, Biscuits, and Ice creams contain Vanilla Flavoring AKA Vanillin. Vanillin is a product extracted from crude oil."
@circedelune

I wonder how many people here are old enough to remember the lead-up to Nutrasweet being the "new" miracle diet sweetener. Prior to aspartame, it was saccharine. In the year leading up to that change, there was at least one article a week in newspapers and on the news about how "saccharine causes cancer"! It was SO obvious that I pointed it out to co-workers and predicted some "new and improved" product. Sure enough, suddenly there are articles and news reports about some scientist who mixed some chemicals and "accidentally" tasted it and realized it was sweeter than real sugar. And, shocker, these chemicals were "all natural". Turns out the studies on saccharine were force feeding insane amounts of the stuff to rats. Of course it caused health issues! Now go look at the side effects of aspartame consumption. The stuff gives me an immediate headache and nausea. I'd rather have saccharine. At least I could tolerate that.

Tartrazine, also known as FD&C yellow #5, is a synthetic azo dye that is lemon yellow in color. It is water soluble and is derived from coal tar. Tartrazine is used in many foods, cosmetics, and medications. Red dye 40 is a synthetic food dye made from petroleum. Research has shown that it is linked to certain ADHD symptoms, such as hyperactivity, and may also cause other neurobehavioral effects in children. I wonder why these are the dyes they discuss. You spent time on that, well worded.... rather conspiratorial! Do research, or if you don't accept actual facts (or are actually an oil lobbyist, lol), tell me where I can locate this knowledge as to why these are not bad for you to consume. I used to work on USDA funds. There's a LOT of research indicating that our additives, processing, and the chemicals we give animals are some of the leading causes of our severe increase in food intolerances and allergies, things like ADD and ADHD, and obesity. I personally get sick a lot in the US, but can basically eat all kinds of foods outside of our nation. The first thing that always happens when I get back to the US is I get sick with my first meal no matter what it is. Also, the USDA organic label is basically a bought and paid for lie. Its extremely expensive and has been given to things like Monster energy drinks. If you are looking for organic products, I would recommend sourcing local and asking the producer if they grow using organic practices or ask about their pest control practices.

The US has rules that you have to list all components of all ingredients. For instance, in the UK a list of ingredients might include enriched flour. In the US the list would have to include all the components of the flour. The scientific words used to describe the components always sound like chemicals, even when they are naturally occurring components. You can’t get people to understand this, no matter how many times you explain it.

Little Debbie's Cosmic Brownies are the best. Just remove the cosmic bits, unless you want crunchy sugar bits; with the combo of dyes in them, and eat the brownie, does contain the red dye in high quantities. HAS to be fresh though, so unfortunately in the UK I wouldn't suggest trying unless directly from corporate distribution and priority shipped as they are quite old by the times we receive them on our shelves. Agree with most of the other rankings thought.... to each there own.

Honestly you should believe. All foods, drinks, inhalations, medications, and even drugs, incase you don't consider them the same, all are bad for you............and good for you. Toxins kill us. Our livers filter them out until they fail or you die of something else. Upon dying all living organisms, so far as I'm aware, produce toxins as a biproduct. Anything in large enough quantity is going to kill you. Some thing that get us addicted, caffeine, drugs, etc. are added to products we still sell today, usually heavily modified from original recipes to be fair, but we accept them because of how they make us feel. Ended well though. Moderation is key to surviving longer. Addiction is living, enjoying what makes you feel good now, because life is not but the act of dying.

I use to drink Coke (which has nothing to do with the coca plant...anymore. lol), but now I almost exclusively drink Mountain Dew. Actually, I drink a 50/50 mix of Mt. Dew and Diet Mt. Dew. The Diet Mt. Dew cuts down on the, to me, sickeningly sweet taste of Mt. Dew and Mt. Dew kills the nasty aftertaste of Diet Mt. Dew. Together the two are insanely good and dangerously addictive. BTW: if you DO ever come to the States, the root beer you should definitely try is Barq's Root Beer. It's the best one for making ice cream floats, by far! Yes, you are going to others who will say things like IPA Root Beer or A&W Root Beer are better but, for some strange reason those not only don't taste as good, to me, as Barq's does, but Barq's doesn't give me a headache like the others do. I don't know why they give me a headache, I just know that Barq's doesn't and it tastes better.😋

Back in 2018, Mountain Dew was 20% Sunflower Oil and I just happened to notice it one day on the label. I was beyond disgusted.; I never liked sodas as a kid. I never liked chocolate cakes or cereals as a kid, not even chocolate milk. As I've gotten older I have backed away from nearly all snacks that I cant make at home.

Glad I watched your reaction and not the original, because that was a desperate dig to piece together content. Like you said, a political embargo on a product is a silly call, etc. On a more humorous note... years ago I did an experiment in school testing if flour beetles could survive on different breakfast cereals, had a mix of healthy and over-sweetened (from Honey Bunches of Oats to Cocoa Puffs). The flour beetles were harder to acquire than expected, so it was a short run, but I only lost beetles in one cereal: Special K.

I think it's a matter of certain dyes being way cheaper than alternatives. It isn't worth it to a company to put the money into changing their dyes for smaller markets. At least I imagine so - money is usually behind things like this, lol.

Commercial bread here is so bad! I have to hunt for bread that doesn't have a chemistry class worth of ingredients. Yes, it's chewy, and sweet, and then almost bitter at the end? It has a lot of sugar, a lot of additives, and will last on the shelf for literally months. If I bake bread here at home we get maybe 4 days before it molds, because of the lack of shelf-stabilizing additives. OTOH, chance of major digestive upset is much lower with the homemade. Yup, stopped eating commercial pork years before I stopped eating it all together (the family is processing 2 pigs this weekend, small farm raised, spoiled happy piggies, no drugs). Also raise our own chickens because... well... yeah. Lettuce & spinach are recalled more often, but commercial chicken can have major issues; pet food recall last month, and a frozen breaded chicken from a national brand recalled in April of '23. The Swiss Rolls were sooooo good. But they changed the recipe and now they taste like hot garbage, so grab yourself a recipe from online & make it at home. I'm so jealous, you get the GOOD Coca-Cola. We get stuck with the nasty corn syrup stuff except around Cinco de Mayo when they import the good Mexican Coca-cola with real sugar in it. This one was fun!

Most of these "studies" are performed by people who want to reduce or outright ban sugary snacks and highly caffinated drinks because they feel they know better than you, and very few are at all conclusive. as far as raw meat I personally love the stuff as much as i like sushi. and yes coke used to have cocaine in it.

Anything and everything is bad for you if you overindulge, but the human body is resilient towards everything they mentioned in this video. Like Skittles used to be my favorite candy for years, I just outgrew the taste as I got older, but I used to eat at least 2 bags a day. The video just highlights what I call helicopter politics, it's the same principle of helicopter parents just on a national scale.

Our everyday pre-sliced sandwich bread and regular hotdog & hamburger buns are a little freakish in that they have a ridiculous shelf life and seem to never go bad. It doesn't form mold and stays soft for extended periods. You get a nice artisan loaf and it'll start forming mold in 3 days...but I forgot about hot dog buns for 3 months and there was no discernable change in them from the day I got them, which can't be right!
