Yes, the drive is a big part of the trip. So glad you pointed that out. Some of my favorite memories come from impromptu side trips while heading to my final destination. I stopped traveling with one of my friends because he is so goal-oriented that he can't have fun along the way. any deviation from "The Plan" would send him into a tailspin. When I'm on vacation as long as I have a place to stay I really like to keep planning to a minimum. 12:40

FYI, Monument Valley is not a national park. It's the name of an area in northern Arizona and southern Utah. An area of natural beauty but within the Navajo Reservation. It's often used in the US as a filming location. Most people will recall the scene in Forrest Gump where he decides to stop running. That's a part of Monument Valley. But to Americans it's known for many Western movies as well as others like the beginning of The Eiger Sanction with Clint Eastwood.

@@rainbowraver666 I was a groomsmen to an outdoor September wedding here in Florida in 2019 and we had record heat and humidity with a crazy heat index and a warning advisory for it. Thankfully none of us groomsmen had to wear suit jackets, but we were all wearing white long sleeve button up dress shirts and ties and I was positive us sweating was going to make it a wet t-shirt contest lol. The ceremony was quick and then we went inside to the venue that had an open bar and I was so hot and dehydrated I didn’t even drink any alcohol (which normally I’d be all for an open bar) I just chugged water. This year in Tampa it’s feeling like that again, it’s been in the high 90°’s already for a month which doesn’t normally happen for another month and a half so I shutter to think what the temps will be in August and September this year.

If you are in very good physical shape, you can do Kaibab and Bright Angel in one day. I did it with a 60lb pack back in the late 80's. I only did it with the big pack because I was led to believe that we were camping at the ranch (bottom) and I was carrying water for SEVERAL other "students" that were my classmates at field camp (not to mention the big tent). But, after getting to the bottom of the canyon, I found out that most of them wanted to go back up for a "dance" at the rim that they had just heard about. I made it back up, and danced at the dance, but it jaded my perception of humanity and our cognizance. Peace, Love!!

Not a very good video in the sense that she covered too many places but spent no time really showing anything. The Grand Canyon is spectacular, especially if you catch a sunrise or a sunset, when the colors are really rich. The GC is 400 km long, up to 30 km wide, and about 2 km deep. The best experience is to go at least part way down into the canyon on one of the hiking trails. Bryce Canyon NP is beautiful, again especially early and late in the day. I haven't hiked there, but there are several trails. Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon, caused by running water. It is on Native American land and requires a guided tour. Monument Valley is not a National Park, it is on Native Amerian land and is a Tribal Park, unaffiliated with the US Government. It is a lot prettier than this girl gave it credit for.

Milly, I saw this a few weeks ago, and was really disappointed by her approach. The main thing was that the only part of Grand Canyon we saw was the parking lots, and she did a halfhearted attempt at summarizing what she saw. I got the impression she was bored to tears, something I can't imagine.

For the Grand Canyon I hiked down and stayed at Phantom Ranch in December a couple of years ago. It is a great experience that I would recommend, but requires planning way ahead. They have a lottery system to stay at the ranch. I just put in every month for it for months that I'd be willing to go until I hit. I avoided June through August. In December there was snow at the rim, but moderate temperatures (abt 60 °F) at the bottom when I was there. You can also take a mule down. I got a cabin, but dorms are more likely to hit.

To really appreciate the scenery, you should read up just a little bit on the geology behind how the rock formations were created. Most of what you saw was once at the bottom of an ocean. After the ocean went away, volcanic activity sent lava up many different cracks in the sandstone. Eventually, the sandstone was eroded leaving behind the much harder rock formations from lava.

Hm. In one video of hers, she was sitting at lunch with people and they seemed very friendly. I don't think this says anything bad about us as Americans because exchange students are always very very popular, introverted or not. And I've seen dozens of other commenters saying that's always been their experience too. It's entirely possible people tried to be her friend and just.. didn't like something about her? I'm not trying to be mean, or speculate on why, but in some of her videos she can come off as a bit.. snobby. A cute exchange girl who is friendly and nice should absolutely not have any problems making some friends. 🤷🏻‍♀

Don't be too upset! There was another video of hers where she was eating lunch at a table with some other kids and they seemed like friendly kids. Every commenter mentioning this is also saying that exchange students were always very popular. I.. don't think we should necessarily blame the other students. I don't want to be mean, but even over video she can come off a bit snobby. I think it's entirely possible that other students DID try to be friends with her. But there may have been something about her or her attitude that ended with her.. "not making friends". I could definitely be wrong of course! But from what I've seen of her and some of the things she's said, it could come off as her acting like she's "better" than her classmates. And people like that can be hard to make friends with. 🤷🏻‍♀ Again, could be wrong, but I have a feeling it may have been more something like that and less every single kid in her year just being rude to the exchange student.
