Being german in germany I actually found that some people are even thankful if you start a conversation with them in a bus or train or in other "boring" settings.. Indeed it is a bit tricky to find a subject so it doesn't look like you are trying to hit on them. And of course not everyone appeciates being talked to. But I never got a bad feedback when I commented on a dog or on a book they were reading (like: "I heard of that author. Is it actually fun?") I guess it's kind of a cultural thing, we learned as kids "Don't talk to strangers" and we don't expect to be talked to. But when we are bored, why don't kill time with a conversation?

@SuperSeggl8 ай бұрын
In Germany, the drinks come either from the refrigerator or from a refrigerated dispenser, so they are cold even without ice cubes. So why unnecessarily dilute the drink with ice cubes that melt? When I order a cola, I want 100% cola, and not 40% cola and 60% water. In addition, that would be a scam. When I order 0.5 liters of cola and half the glass is full of ice cubes, I don't end up with 0.5 liters of cola, but maybe only 0.2. With the lot of cheap ice in the drinks, restaurateurs make a big profit. But if I already get the drink served cold, I don't need ice cubes anymore.

No, fast foods aren't closed on Sundays. Neither are gas stations. There's one near me (about 20 km away) that's more a mini supermarket than a gas station. They have higher prices than a regular supermarket, but that's alright. You won't starve on a Sunday, and their coffee wakes up the dead, I swear. She's talking about cars. Tried an automatic several times, but I won't get friends with that. Sorry, I can't think of automatics as real cars. Red-orange-green might have to do with manual cars: Orange tells you that you should slowly but surely consider putting a gear in, preferably first. No need for that in 'merica of course. Fuel prices in Germany mainly consist of taxes. That's why they're so high. Fuel tax is supposed to be used for maintenance of the federal roads, which are not just autobahns. I mean, you can't have a good road network without someone paying for it, so when you use the roads, you pay tax by the liter. Seems fair to me. We do not like drinks at room temperature, that's true. We want them chilled, like: Out of the fridge. But we also don't like our drinks watered down with ice cubes like the Americans do. A good beer, they say, has to be served at 7°C, and by chance, that's the factory setting for every modern fridge in Germany. Hony soit qui mal y pense. I knew that Americans have big mouths, but how in the world can they eat a double burger twice the size of a European one? Maybe that aspect of white American anatomy should be the subject of further scientific investigation. Hair styles change with time, so her story might be outdated. Honestly, when I'm looking at a girl, her hair is the least interesting part. It's common in Germany to sign with your first initial and your last name, so I sign as "E. Kater". Signing with your last name only is fine within the company or authority you work for, and very official documents you sign with your full name to give them legal status. Starbucks maybe is the worst thing I've ever seen. Lousy coffee, low wages, high prices. Tried one of their coffee "creations", but all that artificial flavor can't hide that their black brew has little to nothing to do with real coffee. She's right, sitting down at a real café, take your time, relax, that's culture. Although I must admit that the Austrians are way better at that. You'll never find a picture of me online, at least not posted by myself. Friends of mine are very active on social media, so it might be that my face is somewhere within a group photograph, but it can't be identified as me. The law on recording in public spaces is quite simple. When you film a general scene (say, a pedestrian zone) or at a public event, you're not violating anyone's privacy. Just don't make a close-up on anyone's face, and everything will be fine. At least, covered by the law. There once was a woman shouting at me from a window why I was filming her. I didn't, there was a cat on the rooftop walking around like Thomas O'Malley. The woman said she'd call the cops, but they never appeared. Talking to strangers, the UK and Germany are quite the same. When I'm abroad, I only talk to strangers when I completely lost my way and have to ask for directions. Talking to strangers in pubs, however, is not a big deal. Bavarian beer and hospitality are of world renown, that's why the Prussians hate us. They can only talk to each other. Bad handwriting in school: In my final class, the geography teacher said, "Now that I can finally read Eisi's handwriting he's going to leave us." I replied: "Mr Teacher, did you have a look at the final exams plan? I signed in for the written geography exam." Whole class burst out in laughter. Germans aren't as brutally honest as they allegedly are, so we'd never say something like "I don't like your jeans". Rather something like, "Hey dude, where you got that jeans from? They look like straight out of someone's trash bin." Finally: I can perfectly lie and look someone straight into their eyes. Definitely no problem with that when it's a police officer.

Regarding German honesty / directness, no one would just walk up to a stranger and tell them that they don't like their jeans or that they need to pluck their eyebrows. However, if I am asked by a friend if I like an outfit and I don't, then I say so. Why ask if you don't want to hear the answer. On the other hand, if someone told me that they loved their new jeans and I couldn't relate, I'd probably keep it to myself. I'd reply with a meaningless 'hmm', if that, and everyone would happily get on with their lives. And the eyebrow thing was probably from a close friend. Girlfriends tell each other when their eyebrows get too wild, they have lipstick on their teeth or something similar. No stranger would do it here either. Well, maybe with the lipstick, but with the eyebrows? What business is it of mine how strangers 'style' their eyebrows?

I wonder if the being blunt/forthright thing she was talking about - like when she said her friend told her they didn't like her jeans - is approached differently here in the US sometimes because of that old rule taught/drilled into our heads by our parents that "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all." That's a well used phrase here. So I wonder if many people in the US would instead of remarking "I don't like your jeans." they would just follow the "rule" about if it's not so nice then keep quiet and, therefore, not say anything. And, then, on the other hand we consider smiling, waving, and small talking as nice things so those are okay to do.

I knew Montana since she started his channel and this video comes out before the pandemic turns the world into a huge cage. Liter to gallon. Germany didn´t have his own oil/gas fields and didnt have a refinery infrastructure like GB or the USA. All hydrocarbons must be imported by other country and comes up with 4 different taxes which cost your left leg. The problems with drinks, soft drinks or soda is- 1st you won´t pay for frozen water. 2nd it´s not healthy. Many studies shows, that your body heat up instead of cool down. The effect is, for a short period of time your body seems cool but then you start sweat like s-one turn on the heating. Also it can cause many stomach diseases like chronically gastritis up to gastric ulcers. But anyways, if you order a soda or water the temperature is way more cooler as you wish for. The Law say if another person who is temporarily in the picture and not the main object of the filming or streaming process there is no necessity to get permission from the person. But there is one little thing which called "House Rules". In some train station (watch the official signs) it is not allowed to film or stream "inside". So if s-one talk to you and say it´s forbidden, ignore them or remain on this sentence "Hier ist kein Verbotsschild und es ist erlaubt in der Öffentlichkeit private Aufnahmen zu machen."(There is no prohibited sign and it is allowed to film or stream in public for private interests). But if you want avoid stress, take a GoPro and attach them to the shoulder straps of your backpack. Almost no one recognized it. We germans are the honest folks you´ll ever met. We do it straight in you face. We don´t like to tip toeing around. It sound harsh but if you don´t like it Fluff off and don´t waste my time.

I love honesty. I'd rather hear it from someone who I know tho and not some random person. the ice thing seems to be a rip off? US cups are larger to accommodate the ice and refills are free. chilled isn't "ice cold" and plenty of places in the US are very hot and humid. I've gotten just a cup of ice with nothing in it but ice just to try and stay cool. I'm 60 years old and don't have any stomach issues from ice and I know no one that has any stomach issues from ice. Maybe your studies are sus? or at least need more studying. Again, in the US ice is basically free and the cups are larger to make room for said ice. Refills are free (usually) and you can always ask for light ice or not ice and still get the cup filled and still pay the same price. No one is getting ripped off in the US by ice. It's all in your head mate.

How long, does she think, does it take to put a car into gear? :P And, not to be nit-picky, but traffic lights go green - yellow - red - red+yellow - green. She's sorta right though on the reason for that: It's to get traffic flowing again in a more timely and smooth manner.

Of course you get Ice in your drinks at McDonalds etc. And during summer. But I think we just prefer cold beer from tap that's get watered down and "amercian" cold. You don't need it that cold if your drink has flavor 😉
@citycobra50144 ай бұрын
Cafes. Restaurants (fast food as well) and Gas stations are open on sundays Of course we like ice in our drinks, but the americans are overdoing it with the ice. They do so much ice in it that the actual drink is nearly non existing. Two ice cubes are by far enough for a 0,33 l drink or 3 ice cubes in a 0,5 L drink.

That’s not true…The US has always had cafe’s and coffee shops …I don’t where or what remote area she lives in😁…Starbucks is not the only place to buy coffee. Real coffee drinkers don’t use Starbucks, they will purchase coffee from actual coffee shops or favorite cafe’s where you can get it to go or sit at little tables and counters- both inside and outside.

She's wrong about the 'cafe' thing. IT totally depends on where you live in the US. There are trillions (i counted all of them) of cafes where I live. Even starbucks has big sit down spaces. She's young. So the culture is a bit different. I find her funny with her observations. I have German friends and there are other things that come up that are more traditional culture stuff from where they came from in Germany vs where they ended up in the US. I still like when someone is honest and shares their experiences pro or con or even isolated specific that aren't really "USA" per se just a piece of it or "Germany" or "UK" or "Europe" or whatever. And she's kinda cute. 😉

well, nightlife, music, bars, clubs usually open except it's a certain holiday to remember the dead or it's good Friday and the federal state you are in is catholic ... once a year ... but that idea to do the shopping on a sunday and think that were the cherry on the cake is some capitalist conspiracy ... ;) that didn't get a foothold here, coz' Unions and Church and recently 'work/life' balance. Unions defended the sunday as the day for/with the family. ice cubes: just add to your order 'mit Eis, bitte' ... usually the drinks served are fridge cold and a typical german would rather complain about the temp than watering the drink down with ice XD gas price: well, there's quite some tax the german government puts on: benzine is like 65.45 cent/l taxes and diesel is 47.04 ct/l. The tax serves to maintain infrastructure, invest into climate change adaptation (taxing the CO2), etc. Of course the difference in price in Germany to the US is a political rather than a strictly economic. If the gas prices would be realistically high (adequate in terms of climate change) in the US many americans weren't able to do their jobs any more because there wouldn't be left enough when paying for their mobility (commuters with 1.5 h rides etc). So here the higher taxes on car fuels have motivated the big brands to build fuel saving technology - since the 1970's. Saving fuel never was a thing in 'merica. One also could say, thanks to it our cars had a technological advantage over those superchunky hp dinos still built in the US. And we are the ones driving our cars faster than 88mp/h. XD If Americans were allowed to do that, too they'ld automatically switch to cars with less thirst. These big blocks can easily drain your pocket when you just run them fast enough ... (slurp). which laws protect the privacy: that you have property over your own image in the public is a derivative from 'the dignity of man is inviolable.' - which opens up our constitution in it's preamble. 'Public' is the keyword here. When you are taking pictures and there happen to walk people into your picture or happen to be in the background and not in the focus of course you may take pictures. They aren't in your focus and you don't want to make them public. 'I'll blur you out in my family foto book' should do, else the other person could take it to court and see how much fun that is and court probably will say 'nah, we're not dealing with this s***' , coz they got better things to do, too. But, the laws help when it's about bigger drama than that - that's why they exist. To protect a persons dignity when it's attacked or taken advantage of. These personal rights over your picture can even be overruled by a court if enough public interest is in play - like when reporters do interviews with people who happen to be in the public interest (whether they like it or not). A journalist may be able to tell you where that fine red line is ... But to avoid any hassle we usually, politely make sure everyone is comfortable with being on the photo or video. This thing hasn't been a thing before the internet, because it's so f+++ing hard to get 'content' permanently deleted.

The thing about small talk is only half true. There are lots of people who like small talk, just give it a try and don't give up after the second or third time! And I find these constant generalizations in these videos really bad, it's just annoying. We have 84 million people in Germany, to assume that nobody likes small talk is absurd!
