@@L3WGReactsNah, you’re good. Many get confused. Texas and other places out West like Oklahoma City usually do beef for barbecue because that’s where all the big cattle ranches are located. In the Eastern U.S., it’s all about the pig!

Middle country is cattle country so big open spaces and lots of wild grass/grains. In Texas BBQ is only Beef (traditionally) out East in the Carolina's pig farms are king. In the NorthWest Lamb can make a appearance not necessary BBQ culture but just in general.

@@L3WGReacts Pretty much the breast is the white meat and the legs and thighs are the dark meat. There is a noticeable difference in texture and taste. Restaurants here in Canada often charge more for white meat (chicken breast).

@@Wonderfeet101 @l3wgreacts The wing is also considered white meat. The dark meat is different in texture because it has more fat in the sections of the animal - thighs and legs have plenty of fat. The white meat from the breast and wings are lean pieces so it can be dry if the cook doesn’t know what they are doing.

Light meat is the breast of a chicken and dark refers to the leg and thigh. Breast meat is usually dry but with the right marinade and seasonings it can be juicy. The leg and thigh are usually juicy. Mashed potatoes are made with butter, milk, and half and half. The potatoes can be cooked with the skin and once they are cooked to a soft consistency they are then mashed. You can top it with more butter, cheese, and chives. Potato salad is cooked cubed potatoes with mustard, mayo, onion, boiled eggs, vinegar, and sweet pickles. Some people will also add celery and dill but at the end it is seasoned with salt, pepper, and paprika. Baked beans in the US has molasses, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dry mustard.

If your chicken breast is dry, you've cooked it wrong. Too many people just assume breast will be dry.

That’s whipped potatoes because for mashed potatoes you just put the potatoes and some butter or margarine in a bowl and mash them with a potato masher which leaves little lumps in them

Yes Lewis, we put Brown Sugar in our beans. I thought you had figured that out already. When we make Baked Beans, they're usually made with Brown Sugar and other potential flavorings. But Brown Sugar is one of the main ingredients in American Baked Beans. It's what gives them the dark brown color. It's not as sweet as you'd think, because the brown sugar is mainly used to thicken up the juices of the beans. Also when we say Pork 'n' Beans, what we mean by that is that the beans (w/ brown sugar) are also cooked up with small cut chunks of bacon. Basically you take strips of bacon, cut them into little squares and them plop those squares into the baked beans raw or slightly cooked, either way, doesn't make much difference. And then as you further cook the beans down, the bacon cooks down a bit itself, releasing the fatty goodness into the beans, but also adding that extra protein with semi cooked bacon. We'll also do the same with green beans. We'll add chunks of bacon and diced onion to green beans.

The key to make meat so tender and juicy to "fall off the bone" is to slow cook it for hours. Low temperature for a normal pork is about 7 to 9 hours.

The bread can serve several functions. A pallette cleanser or to sop up the juices. It can also be used to make a sandwich. Ribs can be both pork or beef. The beef ribs are the huge dino ribs that you have seen.

I think the Bread is mostly for leftover sandwiches. Why order a pulled pork sandwich….when you can order pulled pork that comes with bread and make a sandwich the following day with leftovers

Lewis, there are so many different BBQ sauces in America. They go from runny to thick... from vinegar to sweet... from tart to molasses. You just have to figure out which one you like the best. I like some hot spice in mine. 😮

Carolina style sauces are very runny. My favorite is the Eastern North Carolina style which is just apple cider vinegar with crushed red chili pepper, black pepper, and salt. Also, if you have to "fight" to get the rib meat off the bone in the UK, that means that the ribs were cooked to quickly or on too high a temperature. If you cook ribs "low and slow" then the meat will fall off just like in the video.

In the US if you cook meat on the grill like burgers and hot dogs it’s called a Cook-out. BBQ is so much more!

I've heard non-southern Americans say "a barbecue" to mean "picnic" or "cook-out" with burgers and hot dogs. I find it very annoying.

Sweet potato crunch is basically sweet potato casserole that a lot of us have for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Some people top it with marshmallows, some top it with pecans. They are both delicious.

I love sweet potatoes just bake it and eat it or mashed with some salted butter Once you start adding brown sugar and other things to it I’m not really a fan of it

Every state has good barbecue, A good rule of thumb is if the place has been around for a while it's good. In Seattle we barbecue with alderwood and applewood instead of mesquite and hickory. One of my favorites while it may not technically be barbecue is Seattle cedar plank salmon. You take a salmon fillet spiced and marinated to your taste and place it on a cedar plank that has been soaking in water, you then place the plank directly on the coals and by the time the plank has burned up and turned into charcoal the salmon is done and it is delicious!

The sweet potato crunch is also known as sweet potato casserole in most places. It’s not a cake but a casserole and is something very common during the holidays. You’ve done reviews on Thanksgiving and Christmas where they talk about it. Sometimes it has marshmallows on it. Those are technically two different things but very close to being the same. It is sweet and is a side. You probably won’t like it as a side because it’s too sweet. And yes, our baked beans generally always have brown sugar in them. They’re a sweet and savory thing. That’s why we don’t put it on toast and just eat it.

Potato salad in the USA is diced or grated potatoes with a sweet mayo/mustard sauce. It's a cold side dish, not hot. It isn't anything close to the same as mashed potatoes. Sweet Potato Crunch is a hot dish made with mashed sweet potatoes, some sugar, milk, butter, an egg , and vanilla and topped with a crumb topping made with brown sugar, flour, butter, and pecans. Then it's baked. So it is a rather sweet dish and could be eaten as a dessert but here in the USA, most of us eat is as a side to the turkey at Thanksgiving.

You saved yourself in the end Lewis.All animals that have a skeleton have ribs.Pork is pigs beef is from cows.The bread lets you pile on all the pieces that fell off while you were initially eating.Mash potato is whipped like whipped cream.Cole slaw is grated in thin pieces.

Whipped potatoes are smooth and creamy with milk or cream added when being whipped and mashed potatoes are just potatoes and butter and it’s smushed up mostly smooth with some little lumps in it

White meat is leaner (e.g. breast), and the dark meat (wings, legs, thighs) is moister with more fat. Ribs can be either pork or beef (Beef is much bigger obviously)

Potato salad is cooked cold potatoes cut with mayo and seasoning. Different places have different recipes. Some with onions, celery, etc.

2:43 A good rule of thumb to differentiate between the two is BBQ is “low and slow”, which means it is cooked over low heat for longer periods of time. Also BBQ is generally cooked with indirect heat, relying more on the smoke. Grilling is done over high heat and directly over the flame. Such as cooking a steak, a few minutes on each side over a higher temperature.

The bread is for swiping and eating scraps with but making sandwiches happens too. Ribs can come from pork or beef, i prefer pork for slow cook bbq itself and beef ribs as part of a stew or hearty soup. When you get a you get a chance over here, stack a bun with pulled pork, a drizzle of the mustard based sauce dash of sauce, a layer of coleslaw, then pickles with hush puppies on the side.

Do not mix those sauces. You gotta,trust us on this one. If they were improved by mixing, we would mix them. And BBQ sauce is vinegar and sugar based. Yes, the same as Sweet and Sour. It is all about what vinegar, what sugar and what spices, the extras.

Mashed potatoes - boil potatoes, mash them up with milk Potato salad - boil potatoes, cut into pieces, combine with (this is where the fight starts) you regional or personal preference. Usually eggs, mayonnaise, then some do bell pepper & onion, some use pickle relish, some use a mustard sauce instead of mayo. But basically mashed is potato paste, salad is, well a salad, pieces of ingredients

Sweet Potatoe crunch is a dessert. Sauces can be thin or thick. The beans probably had molasses or brown sugar. bread is to make a sandwich. I love pulled pork sammys, but I slather sauce and add cole slaw. chicken has dark and light meat. Depending on how it's cooked, the light meat can be a bit dry, but if it's cooked properly the light meat can be very juicy. rib meant should just fall off the bone. Slow and low! Mac n cheese should be creamy. I always add something to my version. Sausage/bacon/onion and other seasonings. Yes, they should have put at least some of the slaw on that pulled pork sandwich. Some ppl make their slaw too sweet.

Lewis dark meat is the thighs and the drumsticks (legs) of the chicken. White meat is the breasts or breast meat of the chicken and the wings. When you eat chicken wings at a restaurant then your eating white meat. Dark meat is usually moister and has more flavor than white meat. I know from watching cooking shows like Master Chef and Hell's Kitchen that it is a lot harder to cook white meat, because it tends to dry out faster and little flavor.

There are beef ribs from cattle...Pork ribs & spare ribs from pigs...baked beans in the US have molasses, brown sugar, ketchup, dry mustard, and I put diced onions in mine then top with Bacon ., bake in the oven..I start with 2 cans of Heinz (yes I said Heinz ) Vegetarian beans then add the rest... You'll love them ... Potato Salad is boiled potatoes cooled mayo added...some add hard boiled egg...onions...chopped dill pickles ..💛

Eastern style NC barbecue does a vinegar based sauce but with a mustard based slaw. You said you'd mix the sauces. That's our version.

I was born near Charlotte which is of course western NC but I actually prefer eastern NC BBQ bc it’s the whole hog as opposed to just the shoulder. I love the mix of fatty and lean meat it’s perfect. But I do love the Lexington style red slaw though. Best of both worlds.

Lewis, the chicken breast is considered the white meat, while the thighs and drumsticks are the dark meat. When you hear ribs, typically it is referred to pork ribs, beef ribs are specifically called beef ribs. The reason the meat falls of the bone is, because it is cooked or smoked at low heat (275 F, 135C) for hours, which breaks down the fibers.

Light meat is breast and wing. Dark meat is thighs and legs. Chickens are a mostly nonflying bird. That is why the breast and wings are lighter color when cooked. They walk around though. So the legs and thighs get more blood flow and are darker when cooked. And ribs are either pork or beef depending on what you get. If they are small to medium - pork. If they are those big ones you see in Texas barbeque (like a Flintstones rib) - beef.

Dark meat: Legs, thighs and wings. White meat: Chicken breast. Potato salad is 'chunks' of potato with a vinegar and mayonnaise-based sauce (usually, there are variants with mustard vinegar and just vinegar) and it's served cold.

Potato Salad- Cubed cooked potato, mayo, mustard, onion, celery, salt, pepper, paprika. Some people put a ton of other stuff in it but this may be the basic simple way to do it.

Lewis, if you do come over, it would be good if there are some people you've got to know well on here that could show you around and take you to the good restaurants they know. Some of the best places aren't fancy, and not look all that great- outside or inside- yet have absolutely amazing food. I'm sure it would be the same if we went to someplace like London and miss out on a great place that might not appear anything special.

Potato salad is cut up boiled potatoes, drained, with relish, hard boiled eggs, celery onion and a mayonnaise dressing. It can very from region to region but basically the base recipes. You can add mustard, sour cream, anything is fair game. It's all fair game.

Potato Salad - Mayo, sugar, celery, vinegar ... Think of whats in Coleslaw and replace cabbage with potatoes German Potato salad - Vinegar, mustard, bacon, celery, carrots, sugar to temper down the vinegar.

You can easily learn to smoke meat in the UK. Electric smokers are very affordable and can probably be had at one of your Costco's. There are also numerous recipes for BBQ sauce, just make small batches until you find one you like. And if there's an ingredient unavailable in the UK just leave it out or substitute something you may think will work. Do some searching and you'll quickly find everything you need and how to do it.

Simple difference between grilling and BBQing grilling is hot and fast on direct flame, BBQ is low and slow on indirect heat. North Carolina BBQ is depending on the location is either vinegar based, while Western North Carolina BBQ is ketchup and vinegar based.

You sometimes can judge barbecue by the state, but many states have all kinds of barbecue, especially in the south so I wouldn’t say oh I’ll get this type of barbecue from one state and that type of barbecue from another state. It just really depends on where you go and Lewis, you definitely can have pork ribs and beef ribs both should fall off the bone, if cooked, right! As for dark meat, light meat, chicken light meat on a chicken is usually the breast dark meat is thighs legs you can actually if you look at it, see the difference, get a chicken breast and a chicken leg and pull them apart and look at them and you can see the leg. Will have a little bit of kind of grayish color to the meat when you compare it to a chicken breast, and as far as the sweet potato crunch goes, most people would know that’s a dessert I think at least. Also about the sauces like other people have told you they can go from thick to thin mild to spicy, sweet, sour, and sweet-and-sour it’s just different wherever you go from restaurant to restaurant and from place to place hundreds and hundreds of kinds of sauces to put on barbecue in the states And individual people making barbecue have a preference of the sauce, vinegar or mustard for their barbecue to enhance it but some people like it all or mix several like you said or have one day they want this and one day you want that which is why obesity is probably a problem in the states!! 😂🤣😂Because there really is great food all over the place!! And mashed potatoes are potatoes usually chopped boiled till four tender then mixed with a little bit of milk and butter and salt… Potato salad. Oh my gosh just like barbecue sauces there are tons of different ways to make it. You can have it it’s cold, but you can even have it warm. In fact, we have German potato salad, which is served warm with bacon, more of a vinegar, onions, salt, and pepper to taste. I’m thinking maybe they don’t have it in Germany which is weird because we’ve been to Germany a lot but never ordered potato salad there lol never tried this time will have to try, but we just got back from Germany and Venice, so maybe next year.. We can’t wait till you come to the states and do a tasting video. Make sure you plan to drive and I would suggest maybe Florida to Kansas so you go through Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and up the coast! Oh yeah, you gotta work Texas in there, but I would recommend a quick flight for that one because wow it will be a very long drive !!! In some areas it is a custom to pile cole slaw on top of the pulled pork and sauce on the sandwich. I love it!! Cool slaw with the rich smokiness of the pork is amazing!! Keep these videos coming!! The huge ribs from your other video were beef spare ribs or short ribs. Pork ribs are usually smaller and less fatty..called baby back ribs..oh soo good!!

There's vinegar BBQ sauce, mustard sauce, tomato sweet sauce, and Alabama white. Then, you have just dry smoked which is my favorite.

In America we "Cook Out" on a grill, hibachi, or a barbeque grill. A "barbeque grill" is a grill with a vented lid that can be used for smoking and grilling. They are THE most common type of outdoor cooking unit on both sides of the pond. Americans are more likely to say "We are cooking out" when referring to cooking burgers, or hot dogs. The sides to expect are what you call crisps (plain) and maybe some fresh veggies with a ranch dip. While this is our basic "cookout", do not think you will be disappointed. With our favorable weather, we cook outside from 5 to 10 to 12 months of the year. Add to that our genetic predisposition to try new things, . . . We have gotten very, very good at this. That is why it KILLS us to hear foreigners think McDonald's serves a "good" American burger. They serve an idiot proof concoction, that without the sauce tastes like papier maché. If we say we are "having a barbeque" that implies ribs, or chicken, the lid will be closed (smoking) and definitely there will be sauce involved. The sides will depend on the region. If you are invited to either, just ask what you can bring. We know you are not in a situation that you can bring a dish. So, those Red Solo Cups are the likely ask. If you add a Sharpie Marker to those iconic cups, you will score some points with the hosts. A genius hostess gift a young lady from Sheffield brought with her were tea towels with the British flag on them. They were lightweight and could be easily carried in her rucksack.

The slaw is supposed to go on top of the pulled pork in the sandwich, and potato salad is cold and is not like mashed potatoes but is great once you understand what it is. I can see a person new to it not liking it at first but after you try enough different kinds, you'll find it's not easy to make great potato salad but when you come across it you'll be glad you found it. It's hard to find consistently unless you know someone

Most barbecue sauces in America are not that runny. Both Carolina style sauces are very runny, though. Light meat = breast and wing. Dark meat = thigh and leg. And yes, ribs come from many animals.

White meat is the breast and wings the dark meat is legs and thighs. Type the white meat is dryer. Potato salad is cubed cooked potatoes with cubed pickles, onion, diced boiled eggs, mixed with mayonnaise. If made right it is delicious.

North Carolina bbq is my favorite. Possibly because it's my home state!! The baked beans that I make have onions,brown sugar or molasses and bacon. DELICIOUS!! There are pork ribs as wel as beef ribs.

You definitely need to come to the US and get schooled on some food!!😂 There are both pork and beef ribs! Baked beans do have some brown sugar in it or molasses. Some have a tomato base. Potato salad is boiled potatoes, cold, with hard boiled eggs (not always though), chopped onions and mayo. I actually use a bit of mustard in mine. Potato salads vary greatly but that's the gist of it.

So I'm from NC, I much prefer vinegar based sauces. Typically they are runny. The thicker sauces are like Kansas City BBQ. As well vinegar sauces is more North Carolina, and mustard sauces are typically south Carolina based sauces.

Where I live in the US, more south than the south of France, the temperature is expected to get to -8 C this week. It gets colder. I remember temperatures sometimes around -18 C, but that does not happen every year..

Ok, there are 4 established types of American BBQ. Two are sauce based, Kansas City and Memphis, and two are meat based, Texas with beef and Carolina with pork. Most Americans cook BBQ, but those are the well known 4 and everywhere else is a mix. I'm from Texas and while my pork skills suck, I can smoke a beef brisket that'll make you slap your grandma for not moving here.

Actually, vinegar/pepper-based BBQ is more common/popular in the lower part of South Carolina. Molasses or tomato-based BBQ sauces tend to be more prevalent/common in The Upstate although there are some tomato-based sauces that have some vinegar in them. Im not as big on the carolinas style barbecue that has a typically thinner, more watery, barbecue sauce. I like the thicker sauces that have a sorghum or molasses base. On birds, light meat is the breast and the dark meat is the drumstick and thigh. The meat is physically darker, which is normally softer and juicier. Ribs can be from almost any animal. The most common in the us is pork ribs, or beef ribs. I prefer the massive bone in western/cowboy cut beef ribs that have been smoked and then have the thicker sauce baked onto it. Potato salad is chunks of cooked potato mixed with other ingredients. The salad may have onion, carrot, celery, mayo, mustard, eggs, relish, and all kinds of different spices. Everybody makes their potato salad differently.

Ralph's vinegar-based Carolina BBQ in Weldon, North Carolina. My favorite is taking their chopped pork BBQ and placing that on a sandwich topped with a little of their very finely chopped cole slaw. I never had better cole slaw than theirs.

You say you love baked beans but you don't know baked beans and yes they are savory with a little sweetness. Baked beans here are navy beans, bacon, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, molasses (which is like treacle), brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire, paprika, salt, black pepper. The baked beans you eat look more like what we'd call pork 'n beans. The dark meat of a chicken or turkey consists of legs and thighs. White meat is the breast. Potato salad is not like mashed potatoes. I don't like potato salad which is served cold or room temp but you have to be careful since it has mayo in it and that can spoil if it gets hot.. There are different recipes for it but it's basically, potatoes, salt/pepper, mayonnaise, diced onions, diced celery, mustard and/or vinegar, a small bit of sugar, and pickle relish. We use sweet pickle while others use dill pickle relish. It all depends on what you like. Some add in a chopped up boiled egg. You should REALLY watch how to cook some of these foods so you get a better understanding.

Cole slaw and potato salad are in the same ballpark. Mashed potatoes would need almost no explanation. Boiling cabbage into a mash state. Chunks of boiled potato, onions, carrots, relish, mustard, mayo, lemon juice, sugar, all potential ingredients in the potato "salad."

Grillin' is for family and friends. Smokin's for larger chunks of meat. Whole briskets for example. Bar-b-que sauces can be mixed though we typically don't mix mustard with the "red" bbq sauces. But if you do the bbq sauce police won't pay no attention. Best bbq is in the South USA.

In the south, we were raised with a roll, cornbread, or a biscuit being served at suppertime with our meat three or vegetable plate. Not sure if it's a regional thing but I know many locals that do this very thing.

Oh gawd, good Vegas or Reno buffets are heaven. The only decent hotel restaurants I've been in that serve real food. I had the best clam chowder I've had in my *life* at one of them. And the sourdough was as good as in San Francisco.

If you are looking for beef and sausage go to Texas but if you want the best pulled pork go to either of the Carolinas north or south. A lot of places will have both options of vinegar or mustard based sauce. I’ve heard Tennessee is pretty good too but I’ve never had it.

Wow, such simple things the British don't know. Dark meat is the thighs, wings, and drumsticks. It's darker, different texture, and greasy. White meat is the breasts. Potato salad and mashed potatoes are only the same in being potatoes. Potato salad is cut up boiled potatoes mixed with mayonnaise or miracle whip with various things added depending on the recipe which includes celery, pickle relish, hard boiled egg, chives, normal onions, maybe even cut up jalapenos though I have never seen that. Mashed potatoes are just potatoes mashed up with milk and sometimes butter.

dark meat is thigh and leg, white is breast and wing. proper chicken has darker thighs. the thigh has more fat so is more moist when cooked properly (160°F and rested)

Dark meat has fat . Potato salad is a dish that most people only like the way they make it. Don’t over cook the potatoes or you have “creamy” or “mashed” potato salad 😁. Add pickle, onion& mayo; but not too much. You can also add celery, boiled egg & mustard. But not too much mustard. That is Potato Salad. You can change it up by the ingredients you put in it. I prefer dill but you can use sweet pickles. Add more or less mustard, however you like it. Oh, and salt & pepper!

Lewis, you need to learn to cook some simple stuff, that's all there is to it. It's not traditional BBQ, but you can get falling off the bone meat in your oven. You cook it at a low heat for a long time - "low and slow". Get some meat, rub a dry seasoning mixture into it, wrap it up tight in foil, whack it in the oven for 3 or 4 hours. It won't be browned like real BBQ, it won't have the smoke flavor, but it'll still taste amazing. What I like to do after that is slather it with sauce, then broil a few minutes or roast on high for 15 minutes or so, to caramelize the sauce. For pulled pork, buy a small pork roast - a fatty one - and do the same. Google for low and slow recipes, they're all over. Not all of us can afford smokers, so a lot of us do this instead. 😁 You can buy cans of white Navy beans, add molasses, brown sugar, some other ingredients, cover them tight, bake in the oven several hours (along with your low & slow meat), or 15 minutes in the microwave, and get baked beans. You can make your own BBQ sauce even. None of these are hard! Mostly putting stuff together and following times and temperatures, and Bob's yer uncle. Make up big batches and freeze. You can eat like a king!

You asked about the bread, Americans eat bread like Asians eat rice. That is why the #1 side to pizza is pizza. Cheesy bread that you dip in pizza sauce, which makes it a cheese pizza. America eats bread with everything or breads everything and fries it. Bread is used to soak up whatever runny liquid to eat it. Helps "clean the plate". Is a more socially conscious way to lick a plate clean. Dark meat, is usually the moister, greasier meat. better meat. Ribs can be beef or pork.

Depending on where you are is how the sauce for the BBQ is going to be.... anywhere from runny to thick. Bread or cornbread is to soak up the juices to not miss a bite or to make sammiches. Your choice. Chicken ...Light meat is breast meat. Dark meat is thighs, legs.

Ribs means the traditional Pork Ribs. Beef Ribs are a new "thing". Until recently, the ribs from cows were used in stock. But as the Cattle Industry was forced by advances in synthetics, to shift from leather production to beef production, beef ribs became, . . . edible. So, if we say we are having ribs, it means pork ribs.

If you don’t understand dark or white meat from a chicken, you haven’t had much chicken in your life. Dark meat is juicier and more flavorful and harder to dry out when cooking. White meat is breast meat that is probably the most common but it dries out quicker because it’s leaner. There beef and pork ribs. Beef ribs are generally bigger but not as flavorful and pork ribs are smaller and more flavorful. There’s always exceptions. Sides are not optional when you go for barbecue. They are very important. I think it’s just that when it comes to potato salad, it’s slightly different everywhere you go and you can easily find one that you don’t like that’s regional.
