The guy at 2:50 didn't brake late, he was sliding on the slushy surface. You have to brake more gently on snow so you don't lose control. He just had too much momentum left when the other guy came to a stop.

Never ever ever hit the brakes hard when you start sliding… put both feet on the floor and steer into the slide.. let the weight of the vehicle slow you down gradually. If you hit the breaks you slide faster and lose whatever control you have left. Notice the red car hit his breaks and immediately started spinning.

Whenever you see snow need to drive even SLOWER and be even more on alert. Black ice or hidden ice could be underneath the snow. There are warning signs in the USA about taking more caution on bridges and overpasses can have ice and cause slipping of the cars. Many people do not know how to drive on ice and snow. if they know what to do, they just ignore it.

On ice, you need to do everything gradually. If you step on the brake hard or suddenly, you will skid. The car in the one vid was braking, but didn't have enough time and space to completely avoid the out of control car.

2:55 “Why did this guy break so late?” He didn’t. They are on ice my guy. If you slam on your brakes in winter conditions like that, you’re not gonna slow down at all, you’re just gonna start spinning around like the first car did. You have to gently pump your brakes and slow down slowly. It’s really the only reason the second car only bumped the first one, as opposed to ramming into it full speed and totaling both vehicles.

No one can drive on icy roads. In the South we get an ice storm about every 3 years so there are few government programs to salt and sand the roads. It is just best to not drive but there is always someone who wants to go see everything, usually a nice 4x4.

2:14 that is the way people drive these days. Instead of changing to the right lane when it is safe way before they reach their exit, they remain in the extreme left side of the road and then make a right turn in front of 3, 4 or five lanes of traffic to get to their exit. I see this type of lunacy every day on the surface streets as well as on the freeways.

Older ABS systems will lull you into a false sense of security on ice. If it gets very slippery the slightest braking causes the wheels to slip and the ABS to activate, and it will essentially cut almost all your braking power in the interests of keeping the wheels rolling. Good for steering and stability, bad because you aren't going to stop. And yes, there are some conditions where a locked wheel can stop faster than one being kept rolling via ABS. Newer/better systems can account somewhat for this. My '03 Sonoma has a three channel system and will happily lock one rear wheel in reduced traction conditions and not fire ABS until the other one stops spinning, because it reads the axle and gets a modified average. Bottom line: Know your vehicle.

Not all areas plan ahead for ice storms, or they may only salt or brine the major interstates and highways, and sometimes they have to do that repeatedly. Most residential roads would be lucky if they had a truck come through to brine their roads, so most people wouldn’t dare to go out in it.

I don't think most people are drunk or impaired in crashes. I see so many people texting, talking to their passengers, or otherwise being distracted. A lot of people are also incredibly entitled when they drive, assuming others will make way for them. It's illogical, but I've seen it in action too many times to discount it. I think the terms blinker and turn signal are interchangeable, but I say the latter.
