That was his wife Trish of over 40 years. Took a lot of strength and courage to perform like that when he was so I’ll. But that’s our Toby. One of the finest people to ever live. God bless his family

You know, I had that thought as I watched the awards show. It just felt that he was poetically saying goodbye.

He wrote this after asking Clint Eastwood how did he continue to act in movies at his age, what kept him going. Clint Eastwood told him he just keeps getting up every day, living life and he doesn’t let the old man in. Toby wrote this as a. Surprise for Clint, he loved it so much he put it in the movie he was working on at the time. But when Toby did this last performance, you could tell that Toby, his wife, the band and everyone in audience or watching on tv, that this time he was playing it for and about himself. Especially when they showed Toby and his wife tearing up. Beautiful song and a great one to go out to!!❤

Brett Farve talked to him a couple weeks before he died. He said he had stopped the chemo and that he hoped he had stopped it soon enough. He went from 260 to 130 pounds (118 to 59 kg).

He was receiving the People's Choice Country Icon Award. This was in September 2023 & he actually did 3 live shows in December in Las Vegas, so I thought he was doing better. This is so heartbreaking to watch. The song is perfect for this goodbye performance, just as it was for the movie 2018 'The Mule' that Clint used it in.

Most people know about his many, many entertainment tours overseas with the USO and he was a favorite of all us military folks. But not so well known is his charity work such as the Toby Keith Foundation OK Kids Korral that builds no-cost housing for children cancer patients and their families so they can be together during treatment without the expense of hotels, etc. He and good friend Coach Bob Stoops were regulars at the children’s wards in local hospitals. Just an overall good man who shared his Oklahoma values whenever and wherever he could.

One of my good friends went to watch him at one of his Las Vegas shows in December. He did 3 or 4 back to back nights in Vegas that’s why everyone thought he was on the way to recovery. He would also pop up at local bars here in Oklahoma & sing up until right before he passed.

Toby Keith had so many great songs so whether you need to hear something heartfelt, patriotic, romantic, sad, melancholy, inspiring, thoughtful, or just plain funny, yeah especially funny, then Toby’s got what you need. My favorite songs by Toby Keith are Who’s That Man; Wish I Didn’t Know Now; You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like That; He Ain’t Worth Missing; We Were In Love; Upstairs Downtown; Don't Let the Old Man In; How Do You Like Me Now; Made in America; I Wanna Talk About Me; American Soldier; Trailerhood; A Little Too Late; A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action; and of course Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue. RIP Toby, we miss you!

Toby wrote this in 2018, long before his cancer diagnosis. If I remember correctly Clint Eastwood wanted him to a song for a movie (I forget which one) and this is what he came up with. This was his last performance and yes, that was his wife who he was married to for 40 something years. You should react to him singing with his daughter Crystal when they sang the song Mockingbird. She’s a really great singer but Toby had said she’s not working on music anymore she’s just busy being a mom.

Close. Toby was playing golf with Clint in 2018 and he asked Clint how he kept going and making movies at his age. Clint told him "I just don't let the old man in." Toby went home and wrote the song then sent it to Clint. Clint put it in his movie "Mule."

He was paired with Clint in a celebrity golf tournament. He asked him how he managed to stay so active and productive at his age. The title is his response. He went home and worked on a song based on that quote for a couple of weeks and sent it to Clint for for his 88th Birthday. Clint liked it so much he used it in "The Mule".

@@annajosullivan No problem. You had most of it correct. Prayers that you will have a full recovery and no more problems. When I was 6 I lost my baby brother at 2½ years old to a brain tumor. I hate cancer!

@dogsoldiertoo1099 What I hate most about it is that I am 100% positive that a cure has been found. They let people suffer and sometimes die because they make more money from treating than they would from curing! 😢😡

His last televised performance as a goodbye to his fans. He did a couple of untelevised performances in Vegas afterwards where he said goodbye to his friends and family (His mother was in attendance. It sucks to outlive your children).
