Been doing this stuff for 40 years, on and off, and I've never seen that trick with the olives............. thanks Mike, I'll probably never have to do one now.......

Mike, it's what I found with my old 300Tdi, lose the vacuum pump, lose the mechanical fuel pump, replace with electric pumps, 95% of your oil leaks will disappear. And Nigella Lawson, phawww, bewdifull, now your talking!!!
@chrismiller97403 жыл бұрын
Mike, you are right about the cheap Chinese lift pumps. The only lift pump I’ve ever found that didn’t leak or fail prematurely, were the old AC lift pumps. However, finding a NOS AC pump is the issue. Imagine they are no longer made. Great video!

Hi Mike, must have a slip of the tongue, to anneal copper you need to heat and then drop into cold water, if you let it cool gradually (like steel) tempers it (unlike steel).

Can you use the aluminium antiseize on must parts ?
@BritannicaRestorations3 жыл бұрын
Yes - for me it is an all round anti-seize - I use copper or nickle on exhausts, but I have found the copper does dry out

If a mechanic is careless and doesn’t cover up holes and pipes on the engine, take them up in a single prop plane with a sputtering engine. They then realise the importance of the lesson! 🤪👍🏻🙏🏽🦘

Did you ever workout at good way to get glowplugs out? (the nasty ones) ! A guy in UK who btw has a 400hp S1 , suggest to run the engine real hot and then shock them out with a tiny impact.... It sounds tempting , but on the other hand , running the engine hot , will it not squeeze the plugs even tighter?
@BritannicaRestorations6 ай бұрын
Difficult - they tend to carbon up at the tips = this is why that are tight If you can get them to turn, maybe time and good penetrating oil will do the job - maybe 1/4 turn at a time, back and forth I have a kit for drilling them out and inserting a thread - that is hit-and-miss, so if they do snap off at the bottom, it's off with its head and punch the tips out

On my 300tdi engine I found 2 censors on the bottom of the thermostat housing and can't find them in the part's manual it was Elwood censor's
did you buy the caps as a set or just pick them up as you go along ie the large ones as well?

also just looking on line the only pump i can see that comes with a spacer is the brit part one + its the cheapest one LOL

@billsoucess24483 жыл бұрын
No you don't have too
@BritannicaRestorations3 жыл бұрын
You struggle to get the pump off without removing the pipes - far simpler to take the pipes off and then get the gasket nice and square
