She didn't want people to say of the show "oh is that still on?" as in shows that drag on too long, she made the right decision and maintained the posterity of the show cos season 5 did start dipping in quality a bit so it was the right time to stop.

@@bessiejohnson9535 To be honest, British humour was at its best earlier, right back to when I was a kid. Human rights and others took to having texts corrected because they were not politically correct, therefore making it harder for writers to write comedy. I'm older now, but when I was young I went to school and lived with all kinds of people, we didn't make a difference nor did anyone care of they came from India, or Jamaica. Now we don't know what to say what is politically correct. I imagine that may take the joy of writing such shows. Another one I really loved was "the last of the summer wine", they were a great lot, unfortunately, after the first crew died I didn't feel the same about the show. I have to say, it is not the getting old that's a difficulty, it's loosing all the great actors and musicians along the road and realising we lost something precious and that is change, because that will not come back. The electronic music may have its advantages, but it's not the same. The wisdom of how to juggle words in such a manner that it can make people laugh heartily is a gift that is slowly disappearing through time. 😢😢😢😢😢

L. Salisbury I thought that was the whole point. Hyacinth’s sisters, brother in law, husband, Elizabeth, and Emmet were all the likable ones, but Hyacinth was over bearing and thoroughly unlikable. I imagine that Routledge would feel somewhat disheartened that the character she is most associated with is so horrible. Interestingly Martin Clunes also does not like his character. I have heard him say in interviews that thinks that Doc Martin is a disgusting human being with few redeeming qualities.
