British airways landing Madeira (3rd Attempt) Success!

After 2 unsuccessful attempts on the previous day, and a lengthy detour to Lisbon for the night we were able to finally land in Madeira! (hence the applauding at the end)
Guess you could say "3rd time Lucky"

@@vadimbanner2024 This airport is no joke. Madeira ranks as the 9th Most Extreme Airport by the History Channel. Pilots have to undergo special training to land here. its location is what makes it extreme and dangerous. Powerful crosswinds can happen at any moment, weather can change quickly, and Birds are a huge problem at this airport.

Why do people clap? He did his job absolutely correctly. Aborted twice because it wasn't safe and landed perfect 3rd time. He knew what he was doing better than the passengers on the aircraft. Funchal is a notoriously difficult airport to land at.

not that IV seen in Europe. however in Europe pilots , truck drivers and bus drivers are much more appreciated for there duties and jobs they perform . it's just how it is in Europe .

People that clap: 👁👄👁 People, please don´t clap. Even pilots on youtube say that you shouldnt clap, most pilots dont enjoy the clapping and most of all, is because your disregarding the flight attendants, your clapping because the pilot did his job, but you dont clap when the flight attendant gives you a drink, and its the same as you dont clap when a police officer gives you a ticket. Thats why you shouldnt clap. Everyone on the flight makes it successful (cabin crew, pilots) , not just the pilot doing his job. Please dont clap.. its also super cringy...

Oh dear..... You obviously have no idea. And you sound so unhappy. It's been a tradition since flight took place on land in madeira, the runway was alot smaller back in the day too. So yes all pilots who land on our tiny island will ALWAYS receive a good hard clap once landed and they love it. 💪 A traditon that will NEVER come to an end. (Also, this was the pilots 3rd attempt to land so you've got to give it to the passengers they were absolutely delighted!) 😆

Clapping at Madeira is fine, especially after 2 go arounds haha... But yea, again my comment was more aimed at people who clap for no reason haha

@@northaviation7952 Right, let's compare the market bagger to a pilot of a multi-million dollar machine flying 150 knots above the ground, which he aborted twice before with a plane full of people. Lot of moving parts, critical thinking, millions of things can go wrong, with lots of people who have little to no understanding the severity of the situation, people their life could very well end in a blink of an eye; clapping is more than appropriate. The world isn't ending and if that's how they relieve their stress while nodding at the pilots involved, so be it.

I guess this pilot was a trainee! What would he had been done some 30 yrs ago, when runway was 300 mtrs shorter?That time we had a touchdown AND immitiate takeoff! Buhhhhh! That made heartaches!!

Gerd Barnickel He’s not a trainee in fact he’s the captain who landed this. This airport is captain only as it’s got a short runway and is extremely hard to land at don’t blame him for the 2 go arounds it’s a very hard airport to tackle when weather is bad. As much as it’s blue skies the winds is what effects a plane mostly.
