Used the BV206 in the british army when i was in the falklands in 89, was a great bit of kit. Obviously this one being shown is better than the original which were basic but it also made them easy to work on with very little going wrong. Best for transporters or mortar teams i think and not for front line so to speak. best bit for me was being able to cross the bogs and swamps that no other vehicle could cross.

Wikipedia might be able to calm down all the British applause. Here you have the answer: BAE Systems AB is subsidiary holding company for the Swedish assets of BAE Systems Land & Armaments, whose ultimate parent is the British defense contractor BAE Systems. The portfolio in 2020 contained the company's Systems C-ITS, involved in simulators and training; Bofors, that produces tube gun systems and related ammunition; Hägglunds, the manufacturer of tracked military and civilian vehicles. BAE Systems Bofors BAE Systems Bofors AB, located in Karlskoga, Sweden, is a Swedish subsidiary of BAE Systems Platforms & Services. Its corporate heritage goes back to Bofors, which was founded in 1646 and entered the Defense business in 1883. In 1999 Saab purchased the Celsius Group, the parent group of Bofors. In September 2000 United Defense Industries (UDI) purchased Bofors Weapon Systems from Saab (the tube artillery interests), while Saab retained the missile interests. In 2005 BAE Systems purchased UDI and re-organized all its land systems businesses into BAE Systems Land and Armaments. As part of acquisition Bofors Defense was renamed BAE Systems Bofors.

I worked on the latest iteration of this vehicle and while the vehicle is manufactured by hagglunds in Sweden which is owned by bae systems the newest versions largely are a modular design incorporating systems from all over the world which in turn offers best value for concept which is of course is originally a Swedish design.

That's cool. I love Swedish weapons systems and vehicles but here's the problem; Drones are making these vehicles obsolete. Unless and until these company's can develop a way to defeat thermal imaging, these vehicles are glorified coffins. This includes all armored vehicles, even the ones we have. Drones are THE game changer of this century. There is no frigging way that you would catch me out on a battlefield in a vehicle with Drones loitering. So, is it feasible to defeat the optics or do you develop a CIWS or Phalanx like we had on my ship? There would have to be a very sophisticated Radar tracking system that could even detect and track micro drones. That is going to be a TON of bandwidth and the acquisition speed will have to be off charts. I know that there has been some progress in the area of Cloaking or Mobile Camo but that is a long way off. Our Doctrine here in the US is and always should be: Who Owns the Sky, owns the Ground. I would anticipate a lot of work in Drone Counter Measures like jamming, Active and Passive.

The armored variant of the vehicle that Austria has ordered is, I can say, not suitable for use in high mountains. The vehicle is underpowered for its heavy weight. In deep and loose snow, you quickly lose your grip, despite specially mounted "ice grippers". There are always problems with the transmission and the brakes when the terrain gets higher. With the electric remote-controlled weapons station for the 50 Browning Machinegun mounted on the roof, which weighs around 200 kilograms, the ability to swim is reduced to such an extent that I wouldn't dare do it. Unless I was suicidal. To be fair, it must be mentioned that the mountain troops in Austria never requested this vehicle variant. And that they were only tested after delivery here in Austria. We had positive experiences with the unarmored previous model. But this was not purchased.

This vehicle never was, or ever will be British in origin. It is a product that originated with Hägglund & Sons, in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, by an engineering firm that produced buses, trams and military vehicles, that was later bought by BAE Systems, a once British, now Multinational Defense contractor & manufacturer. The product is manufactured in Sweden. So saying it is a British vehicle is a blatant lie since no British engineers designed it. Whatever version the British army now uses, was made in Sweden to their specifications. They also make the BV206, the CV90 and other military vehicles.
