I use thin sliced sweet potatoes for the “ crust” and fat free sour cream and eggs in with the onions. Top with crumbled feta after baking.

Fantastic September Pie series, thanks for taking the time to show us so many different pies. I’m from the UK (live Manchester) and Cheese and Onion Pie is very popular in the North (Lancashire & Yorkshire). There are so many variations of this pie and potatoes are used to bulk out the filling and makes it cheaper. I think most recipes call for raw onions, but like the idea of cooking them first. Never heard of using Mustard and sour cream but again worth a try. Definitely going to try some of your sweet/dessert pies 🥧 🤤

Englishman here. That pie looked proper pukka. Tell me was the pastry crispy? It looked absolutely fantastic, you put way more butter in than I do and maybe that's what made it crispy (if it was). If so I'm going to try it next time I make a pork pie. Thanks.

What an amazing series ! I am however going to miss watching dad close his eyes when he takes his first bite ! Going to have to do a different series maybe one week a month? I am a baker but retired for 16 years and you have really inspired me to go back to baking pies again…maybe a cookie series? Veggie series? Holiday themed series cake series? You can’t just leave us hanging now after just one series !

I'm a bit puzzled about this one. Hot water crust pastry is made with what it says, water not milk, it has also to be cooled before it can be rolled out or it will fall to bits. I am sure enjoying watching all the pie videos, they all look scrumptious I am deciding which one to make first. I am glad though that I don't have to feed so many, one pie will do for us.

Read a book once, can’t remember the plot. Oh I remember it’s the Hero came home for dinner, she was a working girl, worked in a office…. She made herself an onion pie for supper. That’s all I remember about the book but I really remembered the onion pie because I had never heard of it. I’m Canadian and we ate a lot of British food but I never heard of an onion pie.

You should really try making the greggs pasties, people here do their own versions all their time. The sausage rolls and cheese and onion pasties are truly glorious and a British staple, we can all come together and agree that a good Gregg's is perhaps one of if not the one thing we all enjoy. Cheese and onion pasties contain more potatoes than cheese and onion haha, but that's what makes it so nice. Anyways, loved this series. x

Son, instead of deepfrying it, you can heat it up ( for breakfast as Meaghan said) on a skillet or in a frying pan. It will also avoid the liquid we saw when it came out of the oven. I believe 1 of the kids will open a pie shop as a side hustlle soon;))
