When King Charles III was crowned at the weekend it was classical composers and musicians who were tasked with crafting a mesmerising soundtrack to the historic event. But one of the world's most renowned conductors, Sir Simon Rattle, says British classical music is fighting for its survival as it deals with the aftermath of Brexit, COVID and now more funding cuts. Simon Rattle was just 19 when he became a conductor and has directed the Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and even the Australian World Orchestra. Now, he's returned to Australia for a national tour as he prepares to farewell the London Symphony Orchestra. 7.30's Laura Tingle interviews Simon Rattle.
