A lot of China’s navy is small costal patrol boats that they call ships and we here in the US would not. For the US Navy to consider a vessel a ship has to be over a certain tonnage, China calls about anything that floats a ship.

As far as US military technologies go, its rumored that they are 20 years ahead of what the public knows about their capabilities. So by the time certain technology is declassified and told to the general public, its already 20 year old technology.

China is the only country (after Soviet collapsed) that U.S. didn't defeat militarily - the Korean War is still technically "a cease fire". China had produced great generals, Cao Cao, Zhu Geliang, Sun Tzu, Mao Zedong, etc. They are very cunny in welfare, so the U.S. should not overlook.

The US Navy doesn't "fear" another navy because we count our ships by TONNAGE, not by numbers. Which is why all those little "attack boats" don't bother us due to the fact that you would have to swarm 100's of them to be effective against US Navy assets. Either the air-cover, the rapid response defense systems, the subs OR over-lapping defense systems will basically cost you your ENTIRE "attack boat" fleet for MAYBE 1 or 2 US ships... and even then, it may not actually "sink" ship, but simply damage it and requires a few months in dock to repair.
@HemlockRidge
@HemlockRidge Жыл бұрын
The "largest" navy is not the same as the most "powerful" Navy. China counts all of their little Patrol Craft. They have more Submarines than anyone else. BUT, only 12 are nuclear powered. Plus, a US Attack Sub trailed a Chinese sub easily because the sub was so noisy. The Chinese never knew our sub was there.

The vast majority of us over here adore and respect our British brothers and sisters across the sea. Rest assured that the US would absolutely come to the aid should your country need it. Britain isn't spoken about too much in videos like this, but I know lots of people personally that feel the technology and training over there is very advanced and your service people are well trained. It is routine for our militaries to run various drills and share tactics. The biggest issue why you guys are not mentioned is related to the size of the military and some British people feel they don't always have the best kit and equipment. We would definitely back you up when needed, and many of us feel you guys are in a great position to be a leader of that continent, but many of us do not know the priorities of your politicians, so we can't really speak knowledgeably about whether that is a goal, but it should be. Peace through strength and dominance if necessary should be a doctrine because of the part of the world you are in. We would come to your aid, no doubt, but all the logistics still takes time to organize and stage an effective battle plan should it ever come to that. It is why lots of us want to help you prepare for that because it can save thousands and even millions of lives.

Also, with everything we are giving to Ukraine, we depleting our third level supply of munitions and our military industrial complex, as it currently is, is unable to keep up. There is nothing currently planned, to replace the @70 year old B52s, the 40+ year old B1s, the Bradley's or the Abrams. Not to mention that certain social policies have now infected the military in such a way that "training" on those issues are deemed more important than training for the war-fighting skills. The military is NOT supposed to be used as a social experiment. Its sole function is to win the wars for us.

US allies in Asia also have to figure into the equation. China firing missiles at American forces in the region will be considered an act of war on the host countries. That automatically draws them into the fray. Japan has the world's fourth largest navy by tonnage and has trained to work with the US Navy. The stronger China's military becomes, its neighbors have to respond in kind.

It's not just the number and weight of ships that count. It's do you know how to use them. The US has been using aircraft carriers since WWII. The Chinese? Yeah, they're just beginning to learn how. Also, very few blue water navies can compare to the US and so far, the Chinese haven't proven themselves a capable blue water navy. Back in the 1970's I was deployed 3 times to the Mediterranean. During those times my ship completed numerous UNREPS or underway replenishments, taking on fuel and supplies at sea from special fueling/cargo ships. But we had it down to a science and the Soviets would watch us like hawks trying to figure it out. We once watched a Soviet task force attempt this. They managed, but at a pace so slow it literally made them targets for HOURS. Each of our ships generally finished in 30 minutes. I truly doubt the Chinese are any better.

The UK's two Queen Elizabeth class carriers also use the "ski jump" type deck. Along with China, Russia, India, & Italy. Only the US (11), France (1), and Brazil (1) use catapult type launch systems. There are more countries that have, what in the US we call Helicopter carriers (we have nine), smaller versions that cannot launch a conventional fighter aircraft. They can however launch VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft, such as the F-35B.

American fighters have more powerful radars which allows them to fire a missile at a target they can’t even see. Hence Chinese fighters would only see a missile suddenly coming towards them before even seeing the enemy. American missiles are also extremely smart; they can communicate with aircraft in order to transmit data, as well as are capable of detecting various targets of high priority to focus on important targets.

Build "fake" carriers in the desert for BOMBING practice. Also can be used to planning attacks with soldiers. Ski-ramp launch allows for more time for planes to "veer off" when launch fails, but is SLOWER. Catapult launch system is FASTER to launch multiple ships... and ironically actually allows the ship to launch in a "turn" if it has to in order to "veer" from failures. Most of the time they don't launch "in a turn" due to the speed of the catapult giving planes enough time to bank/eject... but they CAN.

Japan has mostly support ships and minesweepers designed for only clearing waters of explosives, nothing really substantial in their arsenal. They became an exclusively support type military after ww2 providing only equipment and manpower along with the occasional help in operations with people on the ground. However Japan has the biggest civilian fishing fleet in the world next to Norway. China does have an aircraft carrier which barely floats and the navy is only for small jumps to Taiwan which they can’t reach so pretty weak. The high speed rail in China is actually a poor copy of the Japanese bullet train and is derailing occasionally in tests. The new American high speed trains are also Japanese designs but they are actually willingly given to us but with our own improvements for safety measures and other things to adapt to the American technology landscape. The Miami monorail system is definitely a Japanese design but different as it is automated stops but we added manual controls as a backup on the trains in case something happens which it does. It’s a matter of technology as things change we have to add or subtract things to improve them.

An additional couple points, the difference between catapult launch carriers and ramped or short runway takeoff carriers is very stark when it comes to the capability of the aircraft that can be carried and flown off of a carrier. While short takeoff aircraft are marvels, they are generally not in the same class as catapult launched fighters such as the F/A 18 Hornet/Super Hornet. Also, the Chinese carriers currently in operation are not nuclear powered, so have limitations in range and amount of time they may be operational without refueling. While likely effective at opposing it’s neighborhood rivals like Vietnam and the Philippine Navy, the Chinese vessels are outclassed currently against US or French carriers due to being based on the Russian short take off Kuznetsov class design, and being limited to regional combat deployment.

It's one thing to compare/contrast 'navy's' and such, but to get a better idea 'of any conflict' you have to account for 'everything' and that's what the noted simulations have done, not to mention the 'other simulations' since. We're developing missile systems that are dropped from transport aircraft! And we have thee biggest transport fleet ever. She was making a point known as 'numerical superiority' - and yes that needs to be factored into any 'real' comparison. "We" used it to our advantage in WWII. Let me add something else. The Ukraine war! Just as it started it was 'expected' that Ukraine would fall... Thank god it didn't and thanks to all Ukrainians! The great Russian 'empire'/'war machine' showed it's real fault - the lack training and servicing of military hardware. We also suspect that China's military is in a similar situation. That's part of one of the points in this video - 'sortie' or 'operational capability.' Our ability to fly them day or night and in all weather! So... "Air War" with them - F-22 Raptors of the US Air Force and the F-35's (of various services) would ensure Air Dominance; with that one point alone - its hard to do anything in any war! As the simulations pointed out - as long as we don't 'be stupid' and put our Carriers in 'stupid positions' the 2 noted carriers that were sunk may survive. But that doesn't account for the remaining 9 available to be re-deployed, I would presume that if a 'shooting war started' - at least 2 more would be on the way (and other contingencies brought into play because of the initial simulations). So Air & Water would be covered. "The Ground War" - is almost an entirely different situation; and I would presume that 'we' would not put troops in mainland China, Taiwan - Yes; but mainland China - no.

The US is not in War mode. If the US is thrust into war...the US War Production is activated. For instance, In 1941, prior to the US entry into WWII, the US Navy consisted of just nine battleships, three aircraft carriers, 12 heavy cruisers, eight light cruisers, 50 destroyers, 33 submarines, and 100 patrol bombers. By the end of 1945, the U.S. Navy had 7,601 ships on V-J Day in August 1945, including 28 aircraft carriers, 23 battleships, 71 escort carriers, 72 cruisers, over 232 submarines, 377 destroyers, and thousands of amphibious, supply and auxiliary ships...in under four years.

Quantity is a quality only if you can replace that number fast so you can just keep throwing it at them. In reality they would be sunk without doing ANYTHING except trading a ship for a missile. Though it's true, America has 11 Aircraft carriers, they're never out at the same time. Approx half are being serviced, upgraded, repaired & unavailable at any given time. But, there are other, smaller carriers that also in use. They're not officially called aircraft carriers, but that is their function. They are smaller, typically only have one runway, aren't as advanced, don't have as long a range, etc. We have a fair amount of those. Due to range issues, they are secretly deployed around the world too.

I wonder if China would be willing to take a share of oceanic policing, the US and its allies act as security for maritime commerce. They also act as first responder to many catastrophes. An American aircraft carrier providing humanitarian relief in Haiti doubled the hospital capacity. America is not perfect but it does make a great effort at its meeting responsibilities. We have made MREs that comply with cultural dietary restrictions for disaster relief. Not perfect but trying.

The question of quality vs quantity is a big one. Both matter a lot, and a substantial advantage in either makes for a one sided conflict. The US traditionally has had a balance with a lean towards quantity. During WW2 a German general famously said that 1 German tank was worth 4 American ones, but the Americans always had 5.

I don't know if you've ever seen Who's On First by Abbot and Costello, but if not I would suggest it for a reaction video. As far as the US military, my dad always said that anything they officially admit to having, they have another 2 generations of tech in reserve. China's first aircraft carrier was found to have a large crack in the flight deck last year, and the most recently-built one had one as well earlier this year. They also aren't playing it safe for safety's sake... they just don't want to look bad, or "lose face" as they put it. A lot of their technological improvement is actually due to industrial espionage... they steal designs, plans, and formulas then claim it's theirs. Finally, many of those artificial islands are actually disintegrating.

Is it really true? I can't help but wonder why China seems to be constructing at such a lightning pace. However, as the story unfolded, it became clear that beneath the breathtaking speed lay a fragile foundation.

The US has 11 nuclear super carriers. We have at least an additional 10 conventional carriers. So its more like 20 carriers. The navy is also only one part of the military. The air force has attack aircraft that can easily take off from the US and hit china. And that's before our allies like GB get involved. China has no delusion that they can win a direct conflict.

Readers Digest version re: Taiwan: China (People's Republic of China/PRC) believes the island of Taiwan is theirs. Taiwan (Republic of China/ROC) believes they are the true and legitimate China, and technically, the mainland should be under their rule. During the communist revolution, the PRC swept across the mainland and the ROC leaders (who were previously the rulers of all of China) fled the mainland to the island of Taiwan where they continued governing under the same rule. The Taiwanese government is basically an extension of the pre-communist Chinese government. Taiwan is the little bit of China that the communists weren't able to conquer during the revolution. In the view of the Taiwanese, the Taiwan government is the body that should rightfully rule over all of China. In the view of the Chinese Communist Party (PRC government), Taiwan is a rogue province that should be under PRC rule.

Yes they do, and do not underestimate their capabilities. I've heard the stories from my elder military family members (one myself) of their doctrine is overwel by numbers. That is true, however, if you have superior equipment, it evens the playing field. Also, as my great grandfather once said, "Chinese are very good at copying things, they can't develop technology for themselves". They are currently copying everything we have, not using their collective minds to get a leg up on us.
