As a therapist, all I can say is that is horrible; I have fired couples who were "impossible" because it would be unethical to keep them as clients. I don't mince words; couples don't need to feel their therapist is duping them. It's a collaborative process. Ppl like your mom's friend need to find another profession.

@@UncleUncleRj I was just differentiating between someone in a companies HR department, who would have some skills in dealing with conflict, and an actual therapist, which was who the reactors were talking about. Conan could have grabbed someone from HR to be in the bit, or she could be an actress. But I don't think that anything after they left the office was improvised.

Marriage and Family Therapist here and I can confidently say I rarely ask someone "how did that make you feel?" Often times, it's about figuring out what the couple wants and having realistic goals. To be fair, the lady they are talking to is not a trained therapist; she works for human resources, which is focused on professional ethics and legalities. Part of my job is to paint the picture of what the couple expects from each other and help them see if their visions are compatiple long term or not.

Therapy is pretty much like talking to a friend or family member about issues, except they are experts. I think a lot of people can get by with just talking to friends, but many (including me) were not raised in a family or, make close enough friends, that we talk to about anything deep. If there is something you are “stuck” on and cant get past, or something serious, you should see a therapist. Hopefully they are not patronizing in their approach, mine is not.

I've been to a few "therapists".. And I've been told the same thing. I can't be helped, or its going to take a long time to help me. There is too much in my head that they have no idea how to deal with. But they were willing to just shove drugs into me. And then pass me off to someone else. I told them no, I want you to help me. I don't want drugs to mask why I am the way I am. I came to you to help me find out why I suffer from all my mental illness and issues. Therapists are lazy. And that is from experience. Also, if like me.. I can't afford sessions. Then they don't want anything to do with you. If you aren't making them money by sitting on the couch, then they don't care.

Anti-therapy?? No, I’m sorry talking to friends is NEVER going to be better than trained therapists, etc. Very shocking. You must not have any real problems. To each their own though.
@donny_clevOH42o Жыл бұрын
They never said they were anti therapy, they said they wouldn't do it, and would feel weird, millions of people share this view, its just not for them. I could never just tell everything to a therapist, for myself, talking to friends (certain friends) can have equal benefits to someone else talking to a therapist, everyone handles things differently, and not everything one goes through even needs a therapist, maybe they would consider it, if something traumatic happened, who knows But just because myself, or them or anyone personally want nothing to do with talking to a therapist, does not indicate that they are anti-therapy. And to assume, based on what they said, that they must not have had any real problems? WTF you are trash and should go talk to your therapist about judging people, while not knowing sh*t about them. l
