I grew up with "Kinder Surprise" like many others and i never heard of any accidents something close to that related with the chocolate itself since then and those Eggs have bin on the market since 1974. i mean the plastic shell is/ was quite big thought. (7 - 10cm or 2.7 - 4 inch) But unfortunately yes, there were a few accidents reported with the toys related to the size of them and not because it was inside a chocolate shell. The reason it got banned in the US is because of regulations about non-food in candy in general. there is a quote from Wiki to that: "The "Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act" prohibits confectionery products that contain a “non-nutritive object”, unless the non-nutritive object has functional value.[37] Essentially, the Act bans "the sale of any candy that has embedded in it a toy or trinket"

Kinder Joy and Kinder Surprise are 2 different things! In Italy we have both! Kinder Joy was born in early 2000 as seasonal substitute of Kinder Surprise during summer due to the high temperature (Kinder&Ferrero stops different production lines during summer, like Ferrero Rocher or Pocket Coffee) and arrived in UK only in 2015 and US 2017

Pasteurised milk is milk that has been heated for about 20 seconds at most at 75 to 85 °C, it's mostly used to make yogurt and cheese. You can find it in some supermarket but always in refrigerated areas. Most households have neither unpasteurised milk nor pasteurised milk. The 1st has to be consumed before 3 days after milking. Usually it's sold directly by the farmer near his farm.

The Kinder Surprse Egg was banned, there's a specific American law just for it, because the toy inside is a choking hazard for small children. You can't put a non-food item inside something edible like that. I don't know if this part is true, but I get the feeling that many Americans think their children are more likely to swallow inedible things than people in other nations in relation to their children.

The blackcurrant ban was imposed in 1911, but the federal ban was lifted in 1966, and most remaining state bans were lifted in 2003. But you will still mostly see blackcurrants in jam and as dried fruits today in the U.S. You can buy raw milk (unpasteurized) in the U.S. but the farm (and bottling company) have to pass inspections for sanitary operation, and the animals/employees have to pass tests for disease and health issues. I've tasted haggis and black pudding in Scotland, and I don't miss them here. I work at an elementary school, and I hadn't heard of a ban on hot Cheetos, but it makes sense because they have no nutritional value, are high in fat and salt, and the caustic nature of the spices could hurt kids by eating them too quickly, or getting the dust in their nose and eyes. There is a big push to lower child obesity, and encourage healthy eating, so limiting snack foods for kids makes sense.

I did a little research on the unpasteurized milk and you can sell it within a state that allows it to be sold. But if your allows it and you try to sell it in another state you might run into problems because. The thing is a ban may be local, state, federal or like those Cheetos be limited to a school district.

Today I Found Out did a video about why Kinder Surprise is illegal in the U.S. It has to do with a law from the 1930s that makes putting non-food items inside food illegal unless they serve a function directly related to the product like the thing that pops out on a turkey or a lollipop stick. Nobody actually choked on a Kinder Surprise while eating it, although some kids did choke on the toys after an older sibling had already opened it. Occasionally some fancy stores like Barzini's somehow get them. I posted a video of me opening some that I bought at Barzini's. I don't know what happened to the toys, but they should be in my apartment somewhere. It's very disorganized in here because I was living in a homeless shelter with my stuff in storage, and now I'm in an apartment and spend so much money on bills that I can't buy better shelving. They definitely were not discarded.

Raw milk (or unpasteurized milk) is legal in all 50 states. With exceptions. Idk who asked for this but if you’re curious: only about 20 prohibit raw milk for human consumption, which means you can give it to your pets. Many states require it to be sold only on the farm it comes from or by a store only by that brand. And other states (including mine) allow it at grocery stores. Raw milk can’t be transported across state lines in final “consumption” form. My state has a company that sells raw milk within the state I live in so I literally have raw milk in my fridge rn!

so you can get unpasteurized milk in the US and yes people do drink it. Theyre not supposed to. But you will find it at farmers markets labelled as pet food essentially. So youll go to a farmers market like "can I have that milk for my dog *winkwink*" and the farmer will be like "ofcourse for your dog *winkwink*". I only know this because I knew somebody who was big in eating all natural. frankly it grossed me out. It seperates. its chonky. you have to mix it up. I much prefer the plant based milks too

In addition to the risk of infection (mainly to pregnant women) unpasteurized milk has about half the shelf life of the pasteurized variety. That not only impacts the chances of your milk spoiling but also the costs the distribution network and leads to higher food waste. Interestingly, organic milk has an even longer shelf life because it has to be heated to even higher temperatures to guarantee sterilization of milk. They have to do this because cows on organic farms normally have higher bacterial loads due to not being treated with antibiotics.

Pasteurization is heating the milk to 150F and keeping it there for 30 mins. It kills off any bacteria in the milk. It basically eliminates the risk of e-coli and listeria but also kills any beneficial bacteria and denatures the vitamins, hormones and enzymes. For certain milk products like cheese you can use unpasteurized milk (the natural bacteria in the milk is crucial to the process for some cheeses and if there were pathogens either the good bacteria will take over or it will be so foul you'd never think of eating it) but selling raw milk is illegal. I have my own cow, I drink raw milk with no worries because I know exactly where it came from. I worked on a dairy farm and I'd put some of the fresh raw milk in cereal for breakfast after I finished milking. The risk is extremely low if you did the milking because a cow with an infection is pretty obvious and you know you cleaned the udder, but for the general public it's a good policy to have.

The reason some snacks like hot Cheetos are banned in schools in states like California (my home state) has to do with going back to the early 2000s, there was a push limit the sale through vending machines in schools of less nutritious foods. This was done as a measure to improve what's served to kids in all grade levels , but especially elementary school children in cafeterias , school districts like the LA, Unified School District ( the 2nd largest in the US behind the NYC public schools) revamped their menus and took out snack and soda 🥤 machines completely or restocked them with healthier options. The revamp of school menus also was done to help curve the rate of childhood obesity and the onset of Type I and II diabetes in children. Studies also showed that the highest rates of childhood obesity and diabetes in children were seen in children who come from socioeconomically disadvantaged. , predominantly minority ( black/African American and Hispanic) communities who often have less access to fresh fruits and vegetables due to living in "food deserts" where they don't necessarily have supermarkets near where they live in urban areas where there might be barriers for parents and guardians to easily get to and from the supermarket such as lack of reliable transportation etc. The revamp of school lunches really took of after President Obama was elected in 2008, Michelle Obama made it her platform to show the importance of eating healthy foods that were accessible to all in a fun and innovative way. Part of her platform was to include exercise for children given the obesity and childhood diabetes epidemic and the fact that going back to as early as the late 80s up to the mid 90s, pe was among the long list of things that were cut from school budgets across the country.

The reason of the ban of Kinder surprise is because of a law in the food administration which didn't allow to have something you cannot eat hidden inside something you can eat. It's a rule for all food not specific to Kinder eggs, it is the result of an accident, but not an accident with a Kinder egg. We still have Kinder Surprise eggs here in Australia, but not Kinder Joy. Also, the sale of "raw" milk for human consumption is illegal in Australia. Despite the ban on raw milk being sold for human consumption, aficionados have been able to buy raw milk sold for cosmetic purposes as "bath milk". After the death of a three-year-old child in Victoria in 2014, manufacturers have been compelled to add a bittering agent to cosmetic milk to make it unpalatable. Cheese made from raw milk can be sold, though it's subject to control measures relating to the way raw milk is produced, transported and processed, ensuring the final product is safe for consumers.

Most of the time unpasteurised milk is completely safe for human consumption, if the cows are healthy and are kept in good conditions then there shouldn't be anything wrong with the milk, in fact it holds a lot of beneficial good bacterial properties and the process of pasteurising kills off the good bacteria. Live yoghurt that you buy in the supermarkets are most of the time made with unpasteurised milks. Big companies normally pasteurise it (heat it up) to kill off any potential bad bacteria and also lengthen the sell by date. At certain farm shops in the UK you can buy unpasteurised milk and sometimes it's still warm as it's so fresh! Not sure if i'd want to drink it like that but there isn't anything wrong with it, modern ways are just wanting to over sterilise everything haha
@shadowhuntersxo5904
@shadowhuntersxo5904 2 жыл бұрын
If a milk is pastuerised ot means it's been heated. This kills certain bacteria that can possibly make you sick. Sterilising is the same concept but with a higher temperature. I think the benefit of drinking unpasteurised milk is that you get resistance against diseases that come from those bacteria, but i'm not entirely sure.

I believe it was the capsule the kids were choking on, when they were trying to pop it open with their mouth. I believe in Canada they started putting tiny holes in the ends so there was room for some air to go through so they didn't choke further if they panicked.

I'm actually surprised over the fact that Black Currant is banned in the US! I remember we used to grow some in Sweden and make sweetened jelly out of it. We also grew red currants as well and rhubarb before we decided to take away it all and make a garage and guest room out of it.

The kinder egg thing, they were notoriously hard to squeeze open as a kid, so we all used to bite them in half. This was likely so that young children couldn't open them unless they were being supervised. However, kids are smart and will just overcome this by using their jaw strength, but the issue with this is that the plastic had no holes in, so if your breathed it in whilst biting it open... yeah. I don't like the new version, they ruined it. The original was like a mini easter egg.

I spent a couple years when I was a kid in Germany and Kinder Eggs were and still are my favorite candy. They still sell Kinder Eggs just not in the US. They compromised with Kinder Joy which just isn't the same. The reason they are banned is because yes some kids choked on them (10 world wide if you were wondering) but that's bad parenting imho. There's an old law in the US that says you can't sell food stuff that has something inedible or non-nutritive embedded in it. It was mostly to prevent food manufactures from adding things like saw dust to flour and ground meat to make it more profitable. Yes I'm salty about this lol.

The reason that original Kinder egg is banned isn't because it's a choking hazard, it's because The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act doesn't allow non-nutritive objects embedded in edible foodstuff. So it's not just Kinder egg, it's every food that has something that isn't fully eatable.

They have Kinder Surprise in Canada and I had never heard of the risks or problems until I learned and researched into the ban into the US. The ball inside that has the toy is pretty big. I think the risks are pretty overstated but no politician will ever work to rescind a "for the children" safety rule. I could see Kinder Suprise being replaced with the Kinder Joy in the long term, but when I saw the new Kinder Joy I got one and it wasn't as nostalgic for me. That said, I'm sure kids who get an enjoy a Kinder Joy will develop the same nostalgic feelings for this new version.
