Thank you Fil for including this great song. Dean Ford rerecorded this song prior to his passing. It was interesting to hear him sing it as an older man comparing it to when he was much younger. It appeared that the lyrics had a different effect to Dean. It was kind of sad for me to see him sing it as an older man as I sat there listening to it as an older man myself. I was happy to see him singing it once again though. It just goes to show how fast time goes in a lifetime and how short our youth is. Rest in peace Dean Ford and thank you to Marmalade for the music.

We believed in World Peace. Vietnam was still on in the background. Assassination of the Kennedys, Martin Luther King- Kent State. Everybody was reflecting on their life. And everybody knew and wanted to change. Every now and then this song plays in my head. The death of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix 1970. Reflections Of My Life- this song really struck a chord. Thanks for doing the review Fil. This is a good piece of art and it evokes an emotional response. We believe in World Peace- we still do. "The world is bad place, a bad place, A terrible place to live." We really wanted to change that. This was soul- white soul.

Jimi Hendrix said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." ✌ I don't think we're getting any closer to world peace, but music does unite people. I always think that people really need to take more time to listen to positive music, spend time with nature and practice small acts of kindness. 💜

This song was a staple on jukeboxes/radios during the Vietnam war, checkout the lyrics. The average age of soldiers then was 19 years old. The isoprinciple (music therapy term) meets the mindset that these drafted boys had watching each other get injured and die is staggering. The guitar solo “woman tone” is mournfully on point, too, brilliant. So many elements come together to make this piece perfect for those times. Amazingly great taste to choose this performance for your analysis, love it!

My suggestion to cover would not be one band, but rather one singer, Tony Burrows, who was the lead singer of 6 different bands that each had a one hit wonder. He was the singer of Edison Lighthouse ( Love grows where my Rosemary goes), White Plains ( My baby loves lovin), The Pipkins ( gimme dat ding), The First Class ( Beach Baby), Brotherhood of Man ( United we Stand) and The Flowerpot Men with Lets go to San Francisco where two band mates went on to join Deep Purple. Tony sang background as well with everyone from Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard, Tom Jones to Elton John, where he sang backup on Tiny Dancer and Levon. Incredible talent, that many wouldn’t know.

@@tuyetle4846 Thank you for those kind words. Since I commented on that song, I have done a lot of medical research and found that playing drums actually relights the neurons in the brain (albeit temporary) that Parkinson's kills off making movement difficult. From the time I totally lost my ability to play drums in 2020, with extensive practice and help from a few music professionals, I have regained over 90% of what I had lost and now play in a rock band, BackTrax which I formed. It's amazing what music can do for the human mind and body. I'm fighting this ghastly disease for as long as possible. Jr. Cambell and Dean Ford had some inspired lyric and music collaborations. I remember this from 1970 as huge in radio play. I detect a similar close harmony in The Bee Gee's tunes. The studio version has that reverse masking psychedelic section in the solo that draws you in, though you don't realize what is happening in the passage. It is so clear and reserved for a distorted solo. Jr did not re-string his guitars to play left hand but was known to play it tuned to open E chord. Dean did an acoustic remake before he passed away and was accompanied by cello, violin and banjo that I really enjoyed.

I was in military overseas (not in Nam) when this came out. I understood it almost inmediately. And then like all the singles coming out one on the top of another, I wondered if Id ever hear it again. Its stood the test of time as others younger than me are discovering it.. and being as affected by it as I have been. Thanks Fil for your analysis. Only adds to the lasting significance.

Dean Ford covered Reflections of my life unplugged (on you tube) as an older man- it is a haunting recording of just his vocals and the guitar and casts back and forward to the original early days and his later years - a must to watch 😎✌️

Absolutely LOVE this song. It's not so much the lyrics , it's the melody and that crazy bass . Oh man ,whoever is playing that bass & wah-wah *I think that's what its called* I need to find him and tell him how it hits my musical sweet spot every time. Gr8 vocal and harmonies. Easily I'm my top 5 songs!!!

The Marmelade was an average popband but this song is not an avarage pop ballade. It has such a beautiful melody line and lyrics beyond average popsongs. One of my alltime favorite songs like No regrets by the Walker Brothers.

Whenever I hear this song, I think of all the people around the world who truly suffer and probably see the world as a terrible place, yet they continue to struggle against all odds to survive. The song saddens me, as it reminds me of how unfair the world is for so many. We don’t take good care of each other.

I heard this song on the radio when I was a teen and really liked it. I always thought, it was played by the Bee Gees somehow? 5-6 years ago, stumbled upon it on YT, found out it's not the Bee Gees, but a different band, the Marmalade. What a big surprise? Great, ageless song, I still love it! 👍

Used to watch them before the name change (Dean Ford & The Gaylords) they were the best live band that ever came to our Kettering Working Men’s Club. Particularly fascinating was Junior Campbell’s “upside down” guitar playing.

Reflections was always a popular choice on jukeboxes and a favorite slow song at bars ;-) . This was such a cool, melancholy song with a laid-back, mellow vibe. I always thought of this band as being more mature because the lead singer had such a rich voice that was deeper than most popular front men at the time. Great choice, Fil!

Wow! This song takes me back to being 19-20. Thanks for the hands on guitar work. Everything I love about 70s music is here, soulful vocals, melodious bass runs and CLEAN tone is my favorite! I've missed a lot of nights as June 7 I stupidly fell while running in slippers in the garage. Super lucky, facial minor fractures, from thinking I was still 19. Had a concussion and shiner out of it, but have deep gratitude for what could have been way worse. Somebody up there likes me! So thanks, Fil for making me feel 19 again, without running like a maniac! ❤️

Glad you're doing okay! Awhile back I fell in my garage and banged up my knee. It was about a week before we went to Bob Seger's concert. We had a lot of walking to do, and A LOT of steps to climb. I felt sympathy for people who were much older, walking slowly with canes or holding onto someone. The concert was DEFINITELY worth the pain of climbing the stairs. Great music always makes things better!! 👌💕💕💃
