For me..Gary Moore was the greatest loss to music in recent years, may have passed , but Gary Moore just brought beauty, grace..and a talent i really don't think can be matched...I live in the USA now, but from England..when he past away as i grown man i can say i sat and cried, a GREAT man..who gave music his spin..and gave a smile to millions of people.. I got my ass on a plane to pay my respects for this man...visited his grave...his power and life will never leave this world...its so ingrained into music and bands coming up today...Goddess bless you Gary!!

My dad was a typical dad of his generation in the sense that he thought modern musicians had no talent & just played chords, with special effects completing their sound, so I felt a real sense of victory when a Gary Moore gig was on BBC2 one night in the mid80s, & my dad said without any prompting from me that not only was Gary one hell of a guitarist, but he was actually enjoying it.

I'm 66 and have been a Moore fan for the longest time. He IS my number 1 six-stringer. I don't play guitar. For me there is no one like Gary. Complete and total package. More importantly, he was never a one-trick pony. His work with the fusion-based Colosseum II was amazing. He was a blazing hard rock guitarist with Thin Lizzy and solo. And then he blew people away with his incredible blues chops. A lot of guitarists have one thing they do and that's it. They may do it well but that's it. Long live Gary!!

Can never listen to that without tears welling up, total emotion, I could see the emotion in your face too Fil. Goosebumps every time! That guitar is in pain, and grieving. How could anyone NOT feel that man? We get to know Gary more by his playing, he must've encountered pain and heartache and his guitar screams it out, a nervous breakdown of sorts! His best performance in my opinion. He definitely left a legacy. Epic singer also. What a loss. My favourite guitarist for sure. Cheers Fil, you're always on point. Respect brother. 🙌 💯🎯💯🙌

Gary Moore's vibrato hits you straight in the heart. He's also one of the few guitarists who could play a ballad like this with that much gain & sustain and not have it sound like a bull in a China shop. I agree with you its like Gary's guitar is crying. There's a new crop of young blues rock guitarists trying to make it who play with a high gain tone, but they lack the feel and absolute PAIN that Gary felt when he played this type of music. Just his facial expression along show you how much playing meant to him, he puts every ounce of emotion and passion into his performances. He didn't just show up.

First saw Gary Moore with G Force when he was a support for Whitesnake. Managed to see him maybe 6 times after that - like 3 times in 18 months. Managed to get a front row seat at Colston Hall in Bristol where he was literally stood 6 feet from me the whole gig - thanks to the girl in the ticket office who told me the best seats to book. Saw him at Fairfield Halls in Croydon and the friend I went with had seen Hendrix at the Isle of Wight gig just months before his untimely death. Gary played 3 songs with broken G, B and E strings that night. On the way out my pal turned to me and said 'That was like being in the presence of God'. Pretty much says it all, I guess. Keep up the good work!!!

Had to come to this from last night’s live stream (10/22/2022) wherein you offered this cover for a vote against ‘I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight.’ I had not remembered that this was a Gary Moore song and prematurely voted for the alternate. Coming back; your phrase about ‘sustain is insane’ reminded me of the similar ‘insane in the membrane,’ now iconic meme. Plus, a couple others I will have to recheck for a P.S. can’t edit fast enough for modern algorithms… P. S. Ok; so, on vibrato, as I have posted in another video post of Wings, 1) it’s like a good singing voice, but on guitar; best musicians have that major control. 2) it’s all about the feeling, physically and in the soul, in playing/performance, as well as, 3) technical ability; 4) culminating in great musicianship! 🤘🏽

I love it Fil ! I am so sad about Gary Moore's passing. Listening to his music is so much like a prophet telling me about my life. I can feel the pain, the agony and the futility he expressed with unmatched precision. Lost love, love desired and the despair of love comes across beautifully in many of his songs. His guitar was his artists pallette, mixing colors, using the right brush and applying precision strokes on the canvas to reveal a Da Vinci or Michelangelo or Cellini holding a brush or sculpting a masterpiece. When the artwork was finished he left the afficianado in a very sobering state of awe. Thank you for doing more on Moore ! Later, Rock ! A friend always !

Gary Moore, an incredible player and performer. Your analysis of his playing here is quite insightful. It amazes me when people rave about how great Joe Bonamassa is (he's a fine and passionate player, also with his head in the right place I believe) yet don't think of Gary Moore the same way. Joe can't hold a candle to Gary, either as a player or a singer. Authenticity oozed from Moore's pores and he also was willing to let the music breathe and build the mood he wanted to put across. That's my main gripe with Joe. He just never lets it breathe. I call it Blues Bombast. I think he's a great player of the instrument, I really do. But he is no Gary Moore. In fact, there is no one close in today's blues / rock world. R.I.P., Gary Moore.

PS ~ One thing that shows how devoted Gary was to mood and letting the music breathe is his Blues For Greeny, the Peter Green tribute album. He stuck so close to the P.G. playbook it was just stunning. Of course, he was playing Peter's guitar, too, which most likely was even more inspirational for him. He just nailed every song and PG was a notoriously minimalist player, with beautiful touch and emotion in his playing. Gary could play it any way he chose.

Yeah the great players know exactly how to use speed to enhance their playing, not overuse it so it becomes one dimensional.

Nice analysys, Fil. Master indeed. I loved it when you mentioned dynamics for the intro. Well played. A GM fan since TL's Black Rose of '79. Only got to see him once, Wolfgangs in SF for the Wild Frontier tour (free radio station tix even). I don't think he played this that night. A bit introspective, i'm afraid.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, pretty tremendous. Fave memory was him playing Military Man, a song Phil Lynott guested on for Run For Cover. That was pretty special.

This is great but the Montreux version is astounding, the crowd are swaying with him from the very beginning. We'll never see a genius like this playing in this way with so much feeling again.

Imo Albert hall is the best one, the orchestra makes the performance so full and the light shining on him while he plays makes him look like the god that he is

What's to say about Gary Moore that hasn't been said. Even if you don't play guitar you can appreciate his enduring musicianship If you do play try to apply some of his technique to your playing. FIL how about a video of thin Lizzy featuring Gary Moore
