I met Phil Lynott's mom on a train in Dublin. She was a regal lady. She invited my wife and me to her home the next day. Her address was White Horses, Howth. Ireland. She had a room full of gold records and other memorabilia. She was so very proud of her talented son. She was elegant and tough as an oak tree. She raised a biracial child in an era of racial prejudice. Remarkable people do not spring from the earth fully formed. They are nurtured by remarkable adults.

As nice as Philomena was ,Philip was actually raised by his grandmother, Sarah ( Philomena's mother)

I met her once as well, "elegant and tough as an old old tree" is absolutely spot on. She was so nice, what a lady

Gary's 'Still Got The Blues' Live, is a must listen for any guitarist that want to earn how to convey feeling thru their guitar, and it's awesome that Miyako was influenced by him too! Gary's a legend!🤘

It’s a ‘59 Les Paul. No wax potting. And he played at extreme volume. The control to play so loud yet so cleanly is astounding.

Gary was the man back in the 80’s, the technical ability plus his feel (like a turbo-charged David Gilmour) made him stand-out from all the flashier players (except for Eddie). Miyako does a great version on piano of this. Of course, Thin Lizzy popularized the twin-lead guitar approach, and had TONS of killer songs. Phil Lynott was truly one of a kind. Thanks Wave.

This is an epic performance the last time these guys played together live. Concidering their history of love/hate this must have been the surprise of a lifetime for the audience at this show! This song is written by both of them and became Gary's signature song for his entire career despite if was his hard rock or blues days. Gary was a member of Thin Lizzy three times between 1974 - 1980 and his last tenure ended very dramatically when he just left in the midst of a tour. Eventually in the mid '80s they renuited and recorded 3 songs together. Phil died in 1986 and Gary in 2011. Gary had a few songs i'd call "cousins" there is some resemblance but definetely not the same. Those songs are this one Parisienne Walkways, Spanish Guitar, Nothing's the Same, Still Got the Blues and The Messiah Will Come Again although the last one isn't Gary's but written by Roy Buchanan.

Wave, I told you in your Lovebites "Break the wall" reaction, that Miyakos melodic solo was heavily inspired by Gary Moore. He's one of the best guitarists of all time, full of soul and emotion, but also highly technical. Absolutely admired him in the 80s.

Although Phil and Gary were like a couple that split and return many times... they musically got along very well. You can notice it in this video. But the way, fantastic reaction with technical details that I did not know.

I hate to admit that i saw Thin Lizzy at a small nightclub in the midd 1970s in the northeast of England and they did a great gig. My problem is i don't know who was on lead guitar it could have been Gary but not sure it was real grass roots. After the show the whole band were outside loading the gear into 7 ton van laughing and joking. We only went because a guy we new was a roady for Hawkwind and he recommended we go see them we drove up in two cars 8 of us but two of the guys left early leaving 6 of us to get home in one small car a bit tight but we'd had a great night so nobody minded. Always liked Thin Lizzy after that.

The guitar was Peter Green's and during a refurb the pick ups were accidentally put back the wrong way around. And a legendary guitar was born.

The Les Paul Gary is playing in video, originally owned by Peter Green and now Kirk Hammett owns it . Front PU. is mounted reverse, which makes this guitar sounds unique. You should check Garey's fusion era. (the last half of album "Back on the street" is pretty good example)

"fusion era", are you thinking of his Colosseum II days? Those were some great albums; Strange New Flesh, Electric Savage and Wardance. He really did some good stuff on those. And Jon Hiseman was a master of dynamics and weird beats.

@@ulfheroldjensen Yes! Colosseum II is one of my favorite days. The album "Back on the street" is transition period in between Fusion to HR. There is a song called "Flight of the Snow Moose" in "Back on the street". To me, this song is the Gary's final destination of fusion era.

This song is actually about Phil Lynott. The first line, " I remember Parris in the 49, " is a reference to Phil's middle name and the year he was born.
