a little story... She is from my home town in Adelaide. Steve Via was playing, so ofc we got tickets. So here we are in the crowd, kind of up the front as the support act was playing.. and this tiny blond girl comes up and starts chatting to me and my friend. She couldnt have been older than 15.. so we're chatting and she asks if we play guitar and ofc our answer was yes and how we have seen Steve Via before .. well after about 15 mins .. the support band finishes up and the stage guys get ready for Steve to come out...we say good bye and she walks away.. well..you can see where this is going right..next thing, shes up on stage ripping the hell of her guitar and me and my friend are just standing there with our jaws on the ground..no one knew who she was and after doing some research the next day we found out her name..Orianthi..that night she lit up the stage, you can imagine how technical Steve Via is, and she was just as good.. amazing talent..as you can see..i think she was 15 years old...

I was jamming with a seasoned veteran guitar player. It was my turn for a lead. I did my own thing, taking licks from different guitarists, and making up my own. I did something that surprised the experienced player! Afterwards, he had me teach him the lick! It was awesome! I had only played about a year and I was teaching an old guy! I have to confess, i did know Jimi very well,he was a very good friend of my then husband, b4 i met and married him... That pic is of me, taken August of 2018, just so you know i'm not mentally ill, i have been called out on what i'am telling you a few times...., i first saw Jimi perform in 68, with , @ that time, my boyfriend and 2 of our best friends, he was the real deal, best person i ever met, we were back stage @ most of his concerts seeing him live was ABSOLUTELY MESMERIZING, none other like him and his performances... I will have to say that the energy is there, but there are only a couple references to the original. It makes me think about what Eric Clapton said about people wanting him to hear Hendrix. He alluded to the fact most musicians could never understand what was going on guitar wise because Hendrix was giving a master class with every note. Hendrix wasn't just playing but listening and feeling every note. This younger generation is paying homage to possibly the greatest guitar musician ever but there is so much missing it makes me sad. There was so much going on in the Woodstock performance of Voodo child that If you just copied some of the bends the song would resonate better. Please show LEWIS FLOYD HENRY WUTALLICA because its one man band stuff being performed live on the streets of London. Its for younger generations that want to be somewhat innovative.

Fil could you take a look at Joan Jett, she played in a band called the Blackhearts, she also played in an all female band called the runaways, i don't think you've had on your show. Cheers....

Thanks for sharing! She’s very talented (maybe a bit of a one trick pony?🤔). Might want to check out Lindsey Ell. She’s a pop/country artist who is very talented and really uses the guitar tastefully in her songs/covers. 🤙🏻🙂🎸

One of many grinding talented guitar players...if we had known all the secrets to the trade we all would have been Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Satriani, and EVH, and the list goes on and on..., I mean “You Tube “ is chucked full of maddening guitar players! The problem isn’t their talent nor technique....their problem lies in in their lack of invention. I have written hundreds of songs...some pretty good, and I tell my wife, “no one can write music 🎼 like me”...I am an individual, and I am talented...just missed the boat ⛵️ on stardom...I did tour with Charlie Daniels and Nantucket but never got close to those big city lights! Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. And I did sign thousands of autographs! It was fun, and nothing beats when the stadium lights come on and u hit those first chords and the sound carries from the floor to ceiling PA all the way back of the arena! Nothing better...Nothing. I can die now, knowing that feeling...that feeling only one gets in our industry!

This one didn't grab me so much. She'd obviously talented, I'm not sure exactly what didn't grab me. I'm not a big Hendricks fan, but this song I love. This one was just not pleasing to the ear - a bit too noisy. But as always, I appreciate your analysis!

Yeah I agree, pretty muddy sound too, it all runs together a bit too much.

@Wei Chan Vladislov oh geez, now we have the nerdy spelling police invading here, BTW Jimmi, if you want to get picky, wasn't a name Hendrix really wanted, it was sort of thrust upon him as a stage name, even the spelling.
@arthurrendbeau67825 жыл бұрын
Jimi is the name ! Are you a big fan? :)
@knawl5 жыл бұрын
I just spelled it Jimmi to bait more spelling police, guess I caught one LOL. Hendrix was one of the greats but there are a lot of greats. And Jimi was just a fake stage name for publicity reasons, no big deal and no reason to get worked up about. We all know his real name was James Marshall Hendrix and somebody else decided he should use the name and spelling Jimi because it would sell better and he didn't come up with it. He was just an easy going guy who went with the flow because getting to play music for a living was more important to him than some stupid name. There is a lesson there I think.

You're right! No big deal!... "We all know"...You're right again! :) Have a nice day and be careful of humor police, my friend! :) Keep cool.

I saw her play with Alice Cooper in Belgium, and boy, she can shred like a queen. Her guitar game is pretty darn tight and she knows her "weapon of choice" quite well, if not, very well. It was great to see how much Alice enjoyed watching her play, and she was a perfect fit for his show too, pretty yet a bit scary, perfect Cooper material hehehe. Now, "in other news", i've been looking at artists you might not have covered in your videos yet, and failed a couple of times because you already done a piece on them... or two.. lol Now, this all had me digging deeper in my collection, and.. i think i found something you might know, but i am pretty sure of you have not yet covered in the slightest. So, my suggestion for today... Cuby and the Blizzards. Dirty, old, smokey, dusty, country road blues, from the Netherlands! As by now, i pretty much found out, you know everyone i know, and a few i did not know (ty for showing me them), so i stay on mission to find stuff you will enjoy, but do NOT know. (but i am quite sure you know Cuby, but if not.. then yay!!) Keep on making these great videos Fil :D (and i'll keep bugging you with suggestions lol)

She brought a classic song down to her level of playing is what I hear. SRV took it to another level to my ears. I'll stick with him.

This such an old video of Orianthi that it was pointless to use it to analyse her style and playing it is at least 9 years old!! This version from Orianthi published in published in March 2018 would have made more sense to use. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX7Nm2ykZ9WAb68

Haven't we heard enough mediocre Hendrix covers?

I'm not sure, Hendrix covers are very tough to pull off well!
